Sleep on Your Left Side Tonight—Here’s What Happens Inside Your Body | Dr. Mandell

The position you sleep in can affect how comfortably your body functions throughout the night. In this video, Dr. Alan Mandell explains why sleeping on your left side may be especially helpful for people who experience nighttime acid reflux or heartburn, since this position can help keep stomach contents below the esophagus. Side sleeping may also support easier breathing for some people who snore, while proper pillow height and placing a pillow between the knees can help keep the neck, hips, and spine in better alignment. You’ll also learn why stomach sleeping may place additional strain on the neck and lower back, and how a few simple adjustments to your sleeping position may help you feel more comfortable and rested when you wake up. Everyone’s body is different, so choose the position that allows you to breathe comfortably, avoid pain, and get the most restorative sleep possible. ********************************* Please share this video with your friends and family. Eat This for Better Circulation, Sharper Vision and Stronger Bones | Dr. Mandell

Rainbow Swiss chard is one of the most colorful and nutrient-dense vegetables hiding in plain sight at the grocery store. Its deep-green leaves and brilliant red, yellow, orange, pink, and white stems provide a powerful combination of vitamin K, beta-carotene, vitamin C, magnesium, potassium, natural nitrates, fiber, lutein, zeaxanthin, betalains, flavonoids, and other beneficial plant compounds. These nutrients help support healthy circulation, normal blood pressure, eye health, bone strength, muscle and nerve function, digestion, regularity, and the body’s natural defenses against oxidative stress. In this video, I explain what the different colors represent, why every variety of Swiss chard can be nutritious, and how both the leaves and stems can be eaten. I’ll also show you a simple and delicious way to prepare it by cooking the colorful stems first, adding the leaves, and finishing everything with extra virgin olive oil, fresh garlic, lemon, and black pepper. Swiss chard is naturally high in vitamin K, so anyone taking warfarin should keep their intake consistent and speak with the healthcare professional monitoring their medication. It also contains oxalates, but most healthy people eating a normal portion as part of a varied diet do not need to fear this nutritious vegetable. People with a history of calcium-oxalate kidney stones who have been advised to limit oxalates may reduce some of the soluble oxalates by boiling the Swiss chard and discarding the cooking water. Whether you find rainbow, red, green, or traditional white-stemmed Swiss chard, this beautiful vegetable can be an easy and delicious way to add more protective color and valuable nutrition to your plate. ********************************* Please share this video with your friends and family. Heart Attacks and Strokes Peak at This Time—Do This When You Wake Up | Dr. Mandell

Heart attacks and strokes do not happen evenly throughout the day. Research has shown that the first few hours after waking can place greater stress on the heart and brain because blood pressure rises, stress hormones increase, blood vessels tighten, and platelets can become more active. This normal morning surge may become more concerning when it is combined with poor sleep, chronic stress, dehydration, inflammation, reduced circulation, or blood pressure that does not fall properly overnight. In this video, Dr. Alan Mandell explains the physiology behind this morning danger window and why prevention often begins the night before. You will learn how sleep quality, late-night eating, alcohol, inactivity, heavy caffeine, and sudden morning stimulation may affect circulation and cardiovascular strain. You will also discover simple habits that can help your body move more gradually from sleep into the day, including slow breathing, gentle calf and hand movements, proper hydration, natural morning light, and avoiding unnecessary stress immediately after waking. The goal of this video is not to create fear. It is to help you understand how your body responds during the morning hours and how small, consistent lifestyle changes may support healthier blood flow, more balanced blood pressure, and better long-term heart and brain health. Always speak with your healthcare professional if you have high blood pressure, heart disease, circulation problems, a history of stroke, chest pain, unusual shortness of breath, sudden weakness, facial drooping, difficulty speaking, or any other concerning symptoms. Drink This 30 Minutes Before Bed to Stop Waking Up at Night | Dr. Mandell

Drink this about 30 minutes before bed to support hydration, nighttime blood sugar balance, digestion, and a calmer nervous system so you may sleep more comfortably and wake up feeling better. In this video, I explain how a simple warm drink made with lemon, a tiny pinch of salt, and a small amount of honey may help reduce some of the stress signals that can contribute to waking during the night. This is not a sleeping pill, and it does not force your body to sleep. Instead, it supports normal hydration, mineral balance, digestion, and the body’s natural overnight repair processes. Many people may notice fewer nighttime awakenings, less morning heaviness or bloating, and clearer thinking when they wake up. Ingredients: 1 to 1½ cups warm water Juice of ½ fresh lemon, about 1 tablespoon A very small pinch of salt, about 1/16 teaspoon ½ teaspoon honey How to take it: Mix all the ingredients together and drink it about 30 to 60 minutes before bed. Use warm water, not hot water. Do not add extra salt or honey, because more is not better. The honey is only being used in a very small amount, not as a sugary drink. This drink may not be appropriate for everyone. Speak with your healthcare professional before trying it if you have diabetes, kidney disease, high blood pressure, reflux, or any condition that requires you to restrict sodium, sugar, or fluids.
