March or Die - What Does the Bible Say About Divorce? | Adultery, Abandonment & Abuse Explained

What does the Bible actually say about divorce? It's one of the questions Jeremy Stalnecker gets asked most through his work with veterans, first responders, and their families at Mighty Oaks. In this episode he walks through the main passages: Jesus in Matthew 19, Paul in 1 Corinthians 7, and what the rest of scripture says about abuse. Jeremy starts with God's design for marriage. Our culture treats marriage like a contract: if you hold up your end, I'll hold up mine. The Bible describes a covenant, two people becoming one flesh until death, and a picture of Christ's love for the church. That's why he says divorce should never be the first option. From there he gets into the harder questions. If divorce wasn't God's plan, why does it exist? When does the Bible allow it? He covers adultery, abandonment, and abuse, and he's clear on one thing: if you or your kids are in danger, God is not asking you to stay. If you've already been through a divorce, Jeremy has a word for you too. God still loves you and still has a plan for your life. You're not a second-class Christian. This is a big topic and every situation is different, so think of this as a starting point. Leave your questions in the comments. If you're in an abusive or unsafe situation, get safe first and then get help. Compared to Who? Body Image for Christian Women - Why Taking Thoughts Captive Isn't Step One: How to Actually Defeat the Negative Thoughts

Negative thoughts can feel relentless, especially in a dressing room, in front of a mirror, or anywhere body-image fears get loud. But today Heather Creekmore explains why simply telling yourself to “take your thoughts captive” often doesn’t work. In this episode, Heather explores 2 Corinthians 10:5 and clarifies that taking thoughts captive isn’t thought suppression, positive thinking, "Jedi mind tricks," or a battle of willpower. The deeper issue is often the belief beneath the thought. In this episode Why taking thoughts captive is not step one 02:19 What “captive” means in the context of spiritual warfare 03:54 How negative body-image thoughts can reveal doubts about God’s character 04:23 Why trying to suppress thoughts can make them feel even more persistent 07:26 The difference between a thought arriving and choosing to dwell on it 08:00 How hidden beliefs shape recurring negative thoughts 08:39 What “I believe, help my unbelief” has to do with thought battles 13:03 Why confession and knowing God’s character come before taking thoughts captive 19:32 How bringing secret struggles into the light can help expose lies 22:26 What to Do Before Taking Thoughts Captive: Get honest about what’s underneath the thought. A thought like “I look horrible in this dress” may be connected to a deeper fear of being rejected or unworthy of love. Confess the lie and the unbelief beneath it. Remember who God is by searching Scripture for specific truth about His character. Invite trusted people to speak truth with grace and help bring the struggle into the light. Take the thought captive once it has been exposed as a lie and brought under the truth of God’s Word. Rebuilding Us: Marriage Podcast - When Your Happily Ever After Falls Apart: Finding Hope In The Story You Never Wanted

There are losses we know how to respond to and some we don't. In this episode, Nicole Langman talks about carrying a story she never wanted. She imagined a white picket fence, Prince Charming, children, and smooth sailing. Instead, her husband walked away from the marriage, leaving her blindsided by infidelity, rejection, and abandonment. When someone dies, comforting casseroles arrive. People send cards. Churches organize meal trains. We understand that grief deserves attention. But what happens when the loss is a marriage, a relationship, a diagnosis, a family connection, or the future you expected to have? Grief doesn’t only follow death. Sometimes it follows divorce, rejection, infertility, estrangement, or a dream that falls apart. Nicole describes the experience as being “kicked out of my favorite club, the wife club.". Her identity, her plans, and her sense of belonging were suddenly under attack. And the silence around it made the grief heavier. “What we want is to be seen.” Nicole explains why “doing nothing is the worst thing that we can do” when someone is grieving, and how simple acts of presence can help a hurting person feel seen. We also discuss lament, soul knowledge, forgiveness, identity, healing, and the difference between reconciliation and forgiveness. Nicole’s story of finding her identity in God’s love, creating beauty from brokenness, and eventually marrying her first love is a powerful reminder that a painful chapter doesn’t mean the story is over. Key takeaways: The difference between head knowledge and soul knowledge How lament can become part of healing Rebuilding identity after rejection and abandonment Why forgiveness and reconciliation aren’t the same The Japanese art of kintsugi and how God repurposes brokenness Her unexpected redemption story Resources mentioned in this episode: Find Nicole’s book, This Isn’t the Story I Wanted, along with her devotional and resources at nicolelangman.com ️ Get your FREE Heart-to-Heart Conversation Starters When in Conflict at danache.com/conversationstarters. The Built Different Podcast with Dr. Zach Clinton - Ian Simkins: Every Table An Altar - How Presence, Community, & Hospitality Can Heal a Divided, Distracted, & Lonely World, Ep. 320

In a world increasingly marked by division, distraction, and loneliness, what if one of the most powerful ways to reclaim meaningful connection is something as simple as pulling up a chair? In this episode, Drs. Zach & Tim Clinton sit down with pastor and author Ian Simkins to unpack the heart behind his new book, Every Table an Altar, and rediscover the sacred power of presence, hospitality, and embodied friendship. Ian shares why being recognized is not the same as being truly known, how our constant distractions may be stealing the relationships right in front of us, and what the life of Jesus teaches us about making room for people who may not look, think, or believe exactly like we do. If God has graciously invited us to His table, perhaps one of the most important questions we can ask is: Who needs to be invited to ours? Timeless Wisdom with Dennis Prager - Does Atheism Make Human Life Meaningless? | Ultimate Issues Hour

Are human beings truly significant, or are we merely insignificant accidents in an enormous universe? Dennis Prager examines the provocative claim that humanity is little more than “a bit of pollution” in the cosmos. Dennis explores how atheism, science, and the vast unknown universe shape our understanding of human worth. He contrasts the idea that life is a cosmic accident with the Judeo-Christian belief that every person is created in God’s image and possesses inherent value. Can something be rare without being valuable? Does our existence have meaning if the universe could continue without us? Dennis and his callers wrestle with these questions and examine what makes human life matter. Your Nightly Prayer: Evening Prayers for Christian... - The Light That Doesn’t Fade Early

Psalm 119:105 describes God's Word as a lamp for our feet and a light for our path. Not a floodlight illuminating everything at once, but enough light for the next step, steady and sufficient in the darkest hours. And Paul's prayer in Ephesians 1:18 goes even deeper, asking that our hearts be flooded with light so we can understand the confident hope we have been given. When night arrives earlier than we would like, when darkness descends in the soul as well as in the sky, we do not face it without light. Jesus never fades. He never dims. He is the same at midnight as at noon, the same in September as in June. Nothing eases the mind like knowing the One who dispels the darkness. Ponder Tonight Jesus described Himself as the light of the world, which is not a metaphor for a pleasant feeling. It is a declaration that He is the source of orientation, direction, and life itself in every kind of darkness we encounter. God's Word functions as a lamp for our feet, which means it gives enough light for the next step rather than revealing the whole path at once. That is sufficient, and it is trustworthy. Paul's prayer that our hearts would be flooded with light is a reminder that the Holy Spirit is actively present and ready to fill us with whatever we need, clarity, hope, comfort, courage, in this very moment. The anxiety that comes with darker evenings and longer nights is real and worth bringing honestly to God. He holds the lantern out for us not only in our spiritual struggles but in the ordinary, embodied experience of another evening closing in. Tonight's Scripture "I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life." — John 8:12, NLT "Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path." — Psalm 119:105, NLT "You light a lamp for me. The Lord, my God, lights up my darkness." — Psalm 18:28, NLT Your Evening Prayer Father, Thank You for Your Son, Jesus, the light that brings hope and peace in the darkest seasons of life. He is the light of the world, and because He lives in our hearts, we can face each day and night without fear. When daylight fades, and nighttime closes in earlier than we would like, help us remember that we have nothing to fear. Help us rest knowing You are here, illuminating the darkness and surrounding us with comfort. You light a lamp for us. You light up our darkness. Thank You for showing us the way, one step at a time. Your Daily Bible Verse - Imitating Joshua's Faithful Obedience (Joshua 11:23)

Today's Bible Verse:: "So Joshua took the entire land, just as the Lord had directed Moses, and he gave it as an inheritance to Israel according to their tribal divisions. Then the land had rest from war." — Joshua 11:23 What can Joshua's life teach us about faithful obedience to God? Joshua 11:23 shows that Joshua followed God's instructions and remained faithful to the mission he had been given. His example reminds us that spiritual growth involves trusting God's direction, obeying even when the journey is difficult, and remaining committed to Him until the work is complete. When we faithfully follow God, we can experience the peace that comes from knowing we have surrendered our plans to His purposes. “Want to listen without ads? Faith Over Fear - How God Helps Us Repair Broken Relationships

What do you do when a relationship feels so broken you’re afraid it may never recover? Relational pain can trigger fear, shame and an urgent desire to fix things—reactions that can make already difficult conversations even harder. In this episode, Jennifer talks with pastoral counselor and author Chris Coursey about how God can help us navigate relational fractures with greater peace, clarity and compassion. Chris explains what happens in our brains when pain pushes us into “enemy mode,” why emotional safety is so important and how learning to quiet ourselves and reconnect with God can help us respond as our healthier, relational selves. Chris also shares practical strategies for helping others feel seen, heard and understood, recognizing when past pain is influencing present conflict and seeking God’s perspective when fear and shame distort our own. For additional encouragement, download Chris’s free Taking Your Relational Temperature resource and check out his book, The Joy Switch: How Your Brain’s Secret Circuit Affects Your Relationships—and How You Can Activate It, which explores how to strengthen your relational brain and remain connected during conflict and stress. The Crosswalk Devotional: A Daily Devotional Chris... - Coping with Jealousy in a Comparison-Driven World

When you make a mistake and have to face the consequences, it can be easy to wonder whether God will still help you. Our poor choices can create difficult situations, strained relationships, and problems we cannot simply undo. But the consequences of our mistakes do not mean God has abandoned us. Scripture shows that even when we make wrong decisions, God can meet us in the middle of the situation and help us move forward. Joshua 10:6 shows the Israelites asking Joshua for help after their decision involving the Gibeonites left them facing an unexpected battle. Instead of leaving them to deal with the consequences alone, God provided help and gave them victory. Their story reminds us that God’s faithfulness is not dependent on our perfection. When we have made mistakes, we can bring our circumstances to Him, seek His guidance, take responsibility for our choices, and trust that He can still work through difficult situations. Highlights Why making a mistake does not mean God has abandoned you How our choices can create consequences we cannot simply undo What Joshua 10:6 reveals about God’s help in difficult circumstances Why taking responsibility for our mistakes is part of moving forward How God can work through situations created by our poor decisions The importance of turning to God instead of facing consequences alone Encouragement to trust God’s faithfulness even when you are dealing with the results of a mistake Want more encouragement throughout your week? A sin I struggle with in my life is jealousy. I have often been jealous of others because they are happy and I’m not. I was talking to a friend a while ago about my jealousy issue because I was quite upset. Another friend of mine had the privilege of going to the once-in-a-lifetime Taylor Swift Eras Tour. This friend hadn't even been a fan for a year yet. I, on the other hand, have been a fan since I was eight years old, when her debut album was released. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to attend the Eras Tour because it was incredibly expensive and notoriously hard to get tickets. When my friend casually told me she had bought a ticket to see the Eras Tour, I was jealous, but also mad. Since I already struggle with depression, I am a pro at hiding my emotions, and I hid my jealousy from her. However, when I was talking to my other friend about it, he told me that my feelings were valid, but that the jealousy issue was something I would need to work on. He helped me understand e

Love Life Sober - Why You Keep Drinking: The Connection to Your Nervous System | Leanne Ellington

If you’ve ever promised yourself you wouldn’t drink and then found yourself reaching for alcohol anyway, there may be more happening beneath the behavior than willpower. Christy Osborne and neuroscience expert Leanne Ellington explore drinking, the nervous system, brain patterns, neuroplasticity, faith, and lasting behavior change. Leanne shares her own journey from decades of struggling with food and body image to discovering the nervous system, neuroplasticity, and eventually a relationship with God. Her story helps explain why knowing what you should do doesn’t always translate into being able to do it—and why lasting change requires more than simply trying harder. Christy and Leanne unpack what happens in the brain when behaviors are repeated and why the patterns we practice can become automatic. They explore the connection between nervous system regulation, subconscious beliefs, self-image, identity, and drinking, along with what “renewing your mind” can look like through the lens of neuroplasticity. They also talk about faith and behavior change, including why prayer and action were designed to work together. And when you drink after deciding you wouldn't? Instead of turning that moment into more shame, Leanne encourages a different approach: separate the data from the drama, learn from what happened, and use the experience as information for what comes next. If You’ve Ever Thought… “I know I don’t want to drink, so why do I keep doing it?” “I know what God says about me, but I don’t actually feel like I believe it.” “Why can’t I just pray harder and make this desire go away?” “I’ve broken so many promises to myself that I don’t trust myself anymore.” Then this episode is for you. What You’ll Learn • Why reaching for alcohol automatically can be a brain pattern, not a character flaw • How repeated behaviors create and strengthen neural pathways • How your nervous system, subconscious beliefs, self-image, and drinking can be connected • Why knowing what God says about you isn't always the same as believing it • What “renewing your mind” can look like through the lens of neuroplasticity • Why prayer and practicing new patterns can work together in behavior change • How to separate the data from the drama after drinking when you hadn't planned to • How a drinking moment can become a growth point instead of evidence that you've failed • Why lasting change involves asking not only “What should I do differently?” but also “Who am I becoming?” Connect with Leanne leanneellington.com Instagram @leanneellington Join the October 40-Day Fast https://lovelifesober.co.uk/october-fast Order Christy's Book: Love Life Sober: A 40-Day Alcohol Fast to Rediscover Your Joy, Improve Your Health, and Renew Your Mind https://lovelifesober.co.uk/book Follow Love Life Sober on Instagram @lovelifesoberwithchristy Subscribe on YouTube — Come hang out with us!

Your Daily Prayer - A Prayer to Welcome Autumn

Autumn is the season of watching the old leave so that the new may appear. It arrives with a bittersweet quality — a farewell to the vibrancy of spring and summer, a slow surrender to the approaching grays of winter, and in the middle of it all, an extraordinary display of color that makes us almost forget what is actually happening. The old is not simply fading. It is being blown away in one of the most glorious processes in all of creation. Second Corinthians 5:17 gives language to what autumn enacts every year in the natural world: the old has gone, the new is here. What looks like an ending is actually a preparation. What appears to be loss is actually the condition for new growth. Jesus' death demonstrated this truth most powerfully — that dying can lead to new life, and that the deepest losses can carry the greatest promises. The disciples watching the crucifixion did not yet understand what was coming. The leaves releasing their hold on the branch do not know what spring will bring. And yet the process moves forward, faithful and beautiful, under the care of a God who holds both endings and beginnings in His hands. Autumn is an annual invitation to trust that what feels like fading is not the final word — and to ask God to do the same work in us that He does in His creation, removing what is old and creating something new from the inside out. Today's Bible Verse "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" — 2 Corinthians 5:17, NIV Ponder Today Autumn enacts the gospel every year in the natural world. The dying of leaves and the stripping of trees is not a tragedy — it is preparation. God has woven the promise of new life into the very rhythms of creation. What looks like an ending is often the condition for new growth. The disciples who watched the crucifixion did not yet understand what was coming. We can take comfort in autumn, knowing the bare and dreary season is temporary and leads to something new. Dying to the old is how we become alive to God. Romans 6:11 calls us to count ourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Autumn is a vivid annual picture of that same spiritual reality playing out before our eyes. The beauty of the process can distract us from what is actually happening. The spectacular colors of autumn make it easy to forget that what we are watching is the old passing away. God clothes even endings in beauty, reminding us that His purposes are good throughout the process. Ask God to do in you what He does in His creation. Autumn is an invitation to pray for the old things inside us to be removed and for new life to be stirred and created from the inside out — not just observed in the trees outside our windows. A Prayer for You Today Dear Father, as the old passes away in preparation for the new, encourage my heart to be full and overflowing with the hope of new life. Comfort me during the autumn process, opening my eyes to see the beauty and peace that comes in dying to the old and looking forward to the new. Remove old things from inside of me and create something new from the inside out. Calm any mixed emotions I experience when seeing the old pass away, and help me keep in mind how fading beauty leads to something even more beautiful in this life and the life to come. Stir new life and new creation within me as I look forward to the earth's newness to emerge. In Jesus' name, Amen. Want More? Heartbeat - What Will Heaven Be Like?

What will Heaven be like? It’s one of the biggest questions we carry as human beings. The Bible gives us incredible promises about eternity. Through Jesus, death is not the end. God promises a future where there is no more pain or suffering and where we will be with Him forever. But Scripture doesn't tell us every detail about Heaven. Maybe that's intentional. In this episode of HEARTBEAT, we're reminded that while eternity gives us hope for what comes next, God has also given us a life to live right now. Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” We don't have to fear the future because God holds eternity. But we also don't want to miss the beauty, purpose, relationships, and opportunities God has placed in front of us today. Live fully. Love deeply. Trust God with what comes next. Your Daily Prayer - God Directs Our Paths: A Conversation with Franklin Graham | Bonus |

A special episode from "On The Ground" with Samaritan's Purse As believers, we trust in God—we don’t trust in ourselves or in our own understanding. Franklin Graham joins his daughter-in-law in the studio this week to share updates from across the ministry and how he stays grounded leading Samaritan’s Purse. In a world where it is easy to get bogged down by trials and uncertainty, we are to focus on what is eternal, depending fully on the Lord for strength and direction. In this week’s episode, Franklin Graham shares where Samaritan’s Purse is currently serving around the world—from the Democratic Republic of the Congo to Venezuela and Alaska. The focus of Samaritan’s Purse has always been—and will always be—sharing the Gospel with all people. “If we lose sight of our purpose, you get discouraged. And what I mean by purpose is tohelp people, but to do it in Jesus' Name. We want people to know about God's Son, Jesus Christ. So that's our focus, and if one person gets saved, if we're able to help one family, if we can help one group of people, then it's worth it.” – Franklin Graham In reflecting on how Samaritan’s Purse has grown over the past several decades, Graham is continually in awe of God. Graham relies on the Lord for wisdom and discernment—not in his own strength. Kristy asks her father-in-law how he has remained grounded, and he points to familiar verses in Proverbs. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6, NKJV Graham talks about the incredible people God has brought to the ministry over the years. As a leader, Graham prays that staff never lose the heart behind the mission and that the Lord would bring in a new generation of men and women that can receive the baton. It is important to pray for our political leaders, whether we voted for them or not. Graham implores listeners to put allegiances to political parties aside and choose to pray for these leaders. “We're commanded by God to pray for those that are leadership. It doesn't matter whether you're a Republican or Democrat, you pray.” – Franklin Graham If you’d like to keep up to date with more stories from On the Ground, please visitSamaritansPurse.org. Praying Christian Women - 499 Coffee Break: Faith, Fatalism & Finding Your Keys

Don't forget to grab your free scripture journal at PrayingChristianWomen.com/journal today! What happens when our reliance on prayer crosses the line into complacency or fatalism? In this Coffee Break episode, Jaime and Alana tackle a fascinating listener question: Can depending on prayer make you too complacent in your day-to-day life? Using the highly relatable example of losing your keys—do you pray for them to turn up or immediately tear the house apart looking for them?—they dive deep into the tension between trusting God's provision and taking practical action. The co-hosts explore how personality types (like being a natural "activator") play a huge role in how we approach this balance. Jaime shares a remarkable story about finding a lost bolt in the garage after stopping to pray, as well as her current journey of blending practical parenting strategies with fervent prayer. Meanwhile, Alana unpacks how genuine prayer actually engages our subconscious and prompts us to action, whether we are praying for weight loss, lost items, or big life decisions. With a bit of laughter, they also admit that there actually might be a wrong way to pray: using it as a spiritual "post-it note" to avoid taking necessary action. Whether you are job hunting, navigating parenthood, or just trying to find your missing hearing aid, we hope this episode encourages you to stop hiding behind prayer as an excuse, and instead let it deeply transform your everyday actions!
