Your Nightly Scripture - Finding Strength When My Soul Feels Weary
Evening Scripture Ephesians 3 For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles — Surely you have heard about the administration of God’s grace that was given to me for you, that is, the mystery made known to me by revelation, as I have already written briefly. In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, which was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets. This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus. I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace given me through the working of his power. Although I am less than the least of all the Lord’s people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the boundless riches of Christ, and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things. His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to his eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence. I ask you, therefore, not to be discouraged because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory. For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge — that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to the power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. Evening Reflection What is your first response when you start feeling weary in your circumstances? Maybe you reach for some chocolate? Grab a glass of wine? Curl up for a movie marathon? Or just have a good cry? All of those things are helpful, and sometimes a necessary part of resting, processing, and recovering, but those things alone won’t supply your soul with the strength that it needs to endure. Weariness requires supernatural intervention for us to stand up with strength when, by every other measure, we should be crumbling under the weight of our circumstances. Paul, the writer of Ephesians, offers us some instruction and encouragement for our weary hearts. When he writes these words, he is imprisoned in Rome because of his mission, which was to preach the gospel. He understood weariness but still found a way to offer words of encouragement to the emerging church. First, Paul reminds himself and his readers of the grace he received when he met Jesus. Paul realizes that every present suffering is temporary and worthwhile if it leads us closer to Jesus. This perspective protected his heart from bitterness and resentment when life grew hard and the mission God gave him became dangerous. Sometimes forcing ourselves to give thanks for our salvation is the first step we need to take to find encouragement in our circumstances. Next, Paul says he kneels before the Father in prayer. Your Nightly Prayer: Evening Prayers for Christian... - A Prayer for Humility and Unity
Humility is one of the most misunderstood words in the Christian vocabulary. For many, it conjures images of self-erasure, of shrinking back, of treating our own needs, gifts, and identity as though they hardly matter. And Philippians 2 is sometimes used to reinforce that misunderstanding, as though Paul were calling us to see ourselves as less valuable, less worthy, less important than everyone else. But that is not what humility is. Humility is not self-abasement. It is not the abdication of our identity or the dismissal of our calling. In fact, genuine humility is only possible for people who are secure in who they are. It is only when we know we are made in the image of God, redeemed by Christ’s love, and empowered by the Holy Spirit that we can stop performing and competing and simply serve. People who are uncertain of their worth cannot truly humble themselves. They are too busy managing how they appear. Selfishness is not caring about ourselves. It is caring about ourselves to the exclusion of everyone else. It is the posture that says: because I matter, you do not. Because God is with me, He is not with you. It turns every room into a competition and every relationship into a comparison. Humility looks entirely different. It is the quiet confidence of someone who knows they are loved by God and therefore does not need to be the most important person in the room. It looks at others and sees them as equally loved, equally made in the image of the Creator, equally used by God in ways that deserve attention and celebration. When we take our eyes off ourselves and look toward what God might be doing in someone else’s life, we are not diminishing our own place in His kingdom. We are expanding our understanding of it. Tonight, consider where competition or comparison has been shaping how you see the people around you, and what it might look like to simply see them as God does. Ponder Tonight Humility is not seeing yourself as less valuable than others. It is daring to believe you are not more valuable than others, which is a fundamentally different posture that can only be held from a place of security in God’s love. Selfishness is not thinking of yourself as important. It is thinking of yourself as most important, which turns every relationship into a competition rather than a connection. True humility requires knowing who we are in Christ first. We cannot genuinely look to the interests of others if we are still anxiously managing our own worth and visibility. Looking at what God might be doing in another person’s life, and celebrating it rather than competing with it, is one of the most practical and powerful expressions of what it means to live as someone fully loved by the Father. Tonight’s Scripture “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” — Philippians 2:3-4, NIV Your Evening Prayer Gracious Lord, It is so easy to follow the voice of the world, which tells us we need to compete and compare ourselves with the people around us. Instead of seeing others through Your eyes, we find ourselves measuring our worth against their accomplishments, their talents, their visible success. But Your Word tells us to act in humility, to dare to believe that Your love is given to all people equally, that Your grace is extended based on no other criteria than Your own choosing. Empower us to have the humility that fully values who You have made us to be and calls us to celebrate Your love and grace in other people’s lives. May humilit

Your Daily Prayer - A Prayer for Your Family’s New School Year
The crisp air of fall arrives, and with it a new school year — new classrooms, new teachers, new schedules, and for many children, new influences that may challenge what they have been taught at home. Parents do well to prepare the outside: the backpacks, the supplies, the right clothes. But preparing the heart is the work that matters most, and it is the work that requires prayer more than planning. Daniel is one of Scripture’s most powerful examples of a young person whose identity remained firmly rooted even when everything around him changed. Taken into Babylon, given a new name, surrounded by foreign ideology and competing values, Daniel resolved from the beginning that he would not defile himself. His identity was not in his name or his circumstances. It was in who he belonged to. That is precisely what we need our children to know as they walk into classrooms and hallways and conversations we will never hear — that they know who they are, whose they are, and have the courage to live faithfully wherever God places them. We cannot sit beside them in every moment of temptation or confusion. But we can pray boldly. Praying for protection, for discernment, for the ability to recognize God’s voice among all the competing voices, for friendships that strengthen rather than weaken their faith, and for homes so filled with God’s presence that the absence of it is noticeable — this is the preparation that goes with them when we cannot. Today's Bible Verse “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” — Proverbs 22:6, KJV Ponder Today Our children will encounter Babylon — ideas, influences, and values that conflict with their faith. Like Daniel, they need to know before they arrive that their identity is not in their surroundings or what others call them. It is in who they belong to. Bold prayers over our children are one of the most powerful things we can do for them. We cannot be present in every hallway conversation or moment of temptation. Prayer is how we continue to protect and cover them when we are not there. Teach your children to bring their questions home. One of the most important things a parent can do is create the kind of home and relationship where children feel safe bringing their doubts, confusion, and encounters with anti-biblical ideas for open conversation rather than silent wrestling. Pray that your children will be a light wherever they go. The goal is not only protection from outside influence — it is that they would be so rooted in truth that they become a source of it for the peers around them. A Prayer for You Today Lord, You know everything my children will encounter in this new school year — the people they will meet, the things they will learn, and the influences they will face. I pray for complete protection over them and that they will feel Your presence in every classroom, setting, and conversation. Help them recognize Your voice among competing voices and give them the courage to remain faithful when I am not there to guide them. I pray that as they encounter anti-biblical ideas, they will recognize them and bring their questions home so we can talk through them together. Help me fill our home with truth and Your presence. I pray my children will be a light wherever they go and that their peers are drawn to that light and ultimately to Your truth. Thank You for the privilege of raising them.
