EP181 [全英] Why Does Everyone Suddenly Have ADHD?
What ADHD really is, why diagnoses are rising, and what the science actually says. I don’t know if you’ve noticed this too, but over the past few years, it feels like ADHD has gone from being a relatively niche medical term to something that’s part of everyday conversation. Someone on TikTok says, “If you do these five things, you probably have ADHD.” A friend gets diagnosed at 35 and suddenly understands why they’ve struggled their whole life. Parents are talking about it. Teachers are talking about it. Even companies are talking about creating ADHD-friendly workplaces. So naturally, a lot of people start wondering: Is everyone suddenly getting ADHD? Or maybe a better question is: Has ADHD actually become more common, or are we simply getting better at recognizing it? Today, I’d like to unpack that question. We’ll talk about what ADHD actually is, how doctors diagnose it, why diagnosis seems to be increasing, why countries like the United States appear to diagnose it more often, and finally, what treatment really looks like.
