Don’t Touch This After Washing Your Hands—It Could Make You Sick | Dr. Mandell

You may wash your hands correctly and still put germs right back onto them within seconds. Faucet handles, restroom doors, damp towels, cell phones, shopping carts, gas pumps, menus, and self-checkout screens are touched repeatedly throughout the day. In this video, Dr. Alan Mandell explains how clean hands can become recontaminated, why touching your eyes, nose, or mouth matters, and the simple public-restroom habit that can reduce unnecessary exposure. Proper handwashing means using soap, scrubbing every surface for at least 20 seconds, cleaning around the thumbs, fingertips, fingernails, and between the fingers, then drying completely. This is not about fearing every germ—it is about protecting your hands after they are clean, especially before eating, during cold and flu season, while traveling, and whenever someone around you is sick. Share this important reminder with your family and friends. ********************************* Please share this video with your friends and family. Fatty Liver? Take This Simple 2 Ingredient Shot — Here’s What Happens | Dr. Mandell

Fatty liver can develop quietly for years, often without obvious symptoms, while excess sugar, refined carbohydrates, processed foods, insulin resistance, and excess body weight can contribute to fat building up inside liver cells. In this video, I explain what fatty liver is, why it matters, and simple daily changes that can help support healthier liver function. I’ll also show you a simple two-ingredient shot made with fresh lemon juice and extra-virgin olive oil. Extra-virgin olive oil provides monounsaturated fats and protective polyphenols, while fresh lemon supplies vitamin C and other plant compounds. This combination can be a simple addition to an overall liver-friendly lifestyle, but it is not a magic cure or a replacement for healthy eating, exercise, weight management, or medical care. The most important steps for reducing liver fat include cutting back on added sugars, sodas, refined carbohydrates, and highly processed foods while eating more vegetables, fiber-rich foods, lean proteins, nuts, seeds, healthy fats, and oily fish. Regular physical activity, maintaining a healthy weight, controlling blood sugar and triglycerides, and limiting alcohol can also make an important difference. If you have fatty liver, abnormal liver enzymes, diabetes, or other metabolic concerns, speak with your healthcare professional about the best approach for you. Small changes practiced consistently can have a powerful effect on your liver and your overall health. How to make it: 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil Juice of 1/3 to 1/2 lemon (1–2 tablespoons) Mix and drink as a quick shot 3–4 times per week. Best on an empty stomach in the morning or before bed. ✅ Cut back on sugars, sodas, and processed carbs. ✅ Eat more vegetables, lean proteins, healthy fats, and high-fiber foods. ✅ Support your liver daily with simple lifestyle choices. References: Coffee and liver fat: Research shows that daily coffee intake significantly reduces the risk of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) by improving liver enzymes and lowering fat accumulation (PubMed PMID: 25706535). Olive oil and liver health: Clinical trials demonstrate that extra virgin olive oil reduces liver fat and improves insulin sensitivity, making it one of the most protective fats for fatty liver disease (PubMed PMID: 24846817). Lemon polyphenols and fat metabolism: Animal studies show lemon polyphenols suppress diet-induced obesity and reduce fatty liver by enhancing fat metabolism and improving antioxidant defenses (PubMed PMID: 19661152). ********************************* Please share this video with your friends and family. The Vitamin That Keeps Your Arteries Strong, Flexible and Healthy | Dr. Mandell

Vitamin C does much more than support your immune system. It plays an important role in the health of your blood vessels, helping protect against oxidative stress, supporting collagen production, and helping preserve the normal function of the endothelium—the delicate inner lining of your arteries. Research has shown that vitamin C can influence nitric oxide availability and endothelial function, both of which are important for healthy blood flow and vascular flexibility. Your arteries depend on strong connective tissue and healthy endothelial cells. Vitamin C is an essential cofactor for collagen production, which helps maintain the structure and integrity of blood vessels. When vitamin C intake becomes inadequate, collagen formation is impaired and oxidative stress may increase. In this video, I explain the fascinating relationship between vitamin C, oxidative stress, lipoproteins, circulation, and arterial health. I also discuss why humans must obtain vitamin C from the diet, the importance of fruits and vegetables, and some of the best natural sources including citrus fruits, berries, kiwi, bell peppers, broccoli, tomatoes, and leafy green vegetables. Research on vitamin C and cardiovascular health continues to evolve. Studies suggest that vitamin C supplementation can improve endothelial function in certain populations, particularly people with cardiovascular risk factors, although vitamin C supplements have not been proven to prevent heart attacks or reverse atherosclerosis. The message is simple: maintaining an adequate intake of vitamin C is one important part of an overall heart-healthy lifestyle that also includes a nutritious diet, regular physical activity, healthy blood pressure, appropriate cholesterol management, good sleep, and avoiding smoking. Make it a great day. Dr. Alan Mandell ⭐ PUBMED RESEARCH PubMed ID: 24792921 A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials found that vitamin C supplementation improved endothelial function, with greater effects seen in people at higher cardiovascular risk. PubMed ID: 23581713 This review describes several important actions of vitamin C within the vascular endothelium, including supporting collagen formation, scavenging reactive species, and helping preserve nitric oxide involved in the regulation of blood flow. PubMed ID: 27529239 A review of vitamin C and heart health reported associations with endothelial function, arterial stiffness, lipid metabolism, and oxidative processes, while noting that cardiovascular outcome studies have produced mixed results. PubMed ID: 3008449 Vitamin C is an essential cofactor for enzymes required for normal collagen biosynthesis, helping explain its critical role in maintaining connective tissue and blood vessel integrity. PubMed ID: 23747864 A broad review of vitamin C research describes its essential role in collagen synthesis and antioxidant activity and discusses its potential involvement in cardiovascular health. PubMed ID: 18582947 This review examines vitamin C’s potential influence on inflammatory and oxidative processes occurring within endothelial cells, vascular smooth muscle cells, and macrophages during the development of atherosclerosis. In this video, Dr. Alan Mandell explains why eating less is often not the answer and how choosing the right foods can help your body naturally become more efficient at burning stored fat without leaving you hungry. This Popular Drink Could Be Clogging Your Arteries | Dr. Mandell

This popular drink may seem harmless—or even healthy—but when it’s loaded with added sugar, drinking it day after day can contribute to metabolic changes that affect your heart and arteries. In this video, I explain what can happen inside your body when you regularly consume sugar-sweetened tea and other sugary beverages, including how excess sugar can affect insulin, triglycerides, inflammation, body fat, cholesterol, and the delicate lining of your blood vessels. We’ll discuss why liquid sugar can be so easy to overconsume, why a drink labeled “tea,” “natural,” or even “organic” isn’t automatically healthy, and why reading the added-sugars line on the nutrition label is so important. You’ll also learn how years of repeated metabolic stress can contribute to the conditions that promote plaque formation within the arteries, even when you feel perfectly healthy and have no obvious symptoms. Most importantly, I’ll show you simple ways to continue enjoying tea without loading your body with unnecessary sugar, including gradually reducing sweetness, mixing sweetened and unsweetened tea, and using natural flavors such as lemon, lime, mint, or cinnamon. Heart disease doesn’t develop because of one drink or one meal—it develops from patterns repeated over time. Becoming aware of what you drink every day may be one of the simplest changes you can make to support healthier arteries, better metabolism, and a stronger cardiovascular system for years to come. ********************************* Please share this video with your friends and family. The Worst Time to Brush Your Teeth | Dr. Mandell

Most people brush their teeth every day without giving a second thought to when they should brush. But did you know that brushing immediately after eating certain acidic foods and beverages may actually do more harm than good? In this video, I explain why timing matters, how acidic foods can temporarily soften tooth enamel, and why your body's own saliva plays such an important role in protecting and remineralizing your teeth. We'll discuss which foods and drinks are the biggest culprits, what you should do immediately after eating them, and why waiting about 30 minutes before brushing may help protect your enamel for years to come. This isn't about brushing less—it's about brushing smarter. Understanding how your body naturally protects itself allows you to make better health decisions every day. Small habits practiced consistently over time often make the biggest difference in your long-term health. ********************************* Please share this video with your friends and family. Do This Against a Wall to Flatten Your Stomach — No Crunches | Dr. Mandell

Most people think flattening the stomach means doing endless crunches and sit-ups, but one of the most important muscles for pulling the abdominal wall inward sits much deeper. The transverse abdominis wraps around your midsection like a natural corset and plays an important role in abdominal control, posture, core stability, and support of the spine. In this video, I’ll show you several simple standing exercises using only a wall to help activate and strengthen these deep core muscles — including the abdominal drawing-in maneuver, wall pelvic tilts, mini squats, and controlled wall pushes. Research has shown that drawing the abdomen inward can effectively recruit the transverse abdominis and that this muscle contributes to trunk and spinal stabilization. The beauty of these movements is that there’s no equipment, no crunching your neck, and no getting down on the floor. Practice them consistently and you may notice better awareness and control of your abdominal wall, improved core endurance, and better posture. Remember, these exercises strengthen and retrain the abdominal muscles; reducing abdominal fat still depends on overall nutrition, activity, and energy balance. Start slowly, focus on your breathing and technique, and let your deep core do the work. Research: Akuthota V, et al. Core Stability Exercise Principles. Curr Sports Med Rep. 2008;7(1):39–44.
