    Your Daily Prayer - A Prayer for Those Longing for Peace in Creation

    Wild animals carry a raw, simultaneous presence of beauty and danger that is difficult to fully articulate, which is exactly what makes the picture in Isaiah 11 so stunning. A wolf living with a lamb. A leopard resting beside a goat. A little child leading them all. These pairings shatter every assumption we hold about the natural order of things. They are describing something that has never existed in a fallen world. A day is coming when the knowledge of the Lord will fill the earth as the waters cover the sea, and in that day, radical and complete peace will come to all of creation. No more fear, no more power struggle, no more tooth and claw. The everlasting reign of Jesus will bring the peace that every corner of creation has been groaning for. For now, we live in the in-between. We catch glimpses of that coming reality in our friendships with animals, in moments of unexpected beauty in the natural world, and in the steady trust that what is broken is not forever. All shall be well. Today's Bible Verse "They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea." — Isaiah 11:9, NIV Ponder Today The stunning pairings in Isaiah 11 are meant to shatter our assumptions. Wolf with lamb. Leopard with goat. Child leading them all. God is describing something so far outside our current experience that it can only arrive with the fullness of His knowledge filling the earth. We live in the in-between of here but not yet. The promise of Isaiah 11 is future, but we are not without glimpses of it now — in the animals we love, in moments of beauty in nature, and in every act of peace and care we extend to the world around us. The current brokenness of creation is not its final state. Romans 8 tells us that creation itself groans, waiting for redemption. That groan is not hopeless — it is the groan of something that knows restoration is coming. Waiting faithfully means making the most of opportunities to promote peace right now. We cannot bring Isaiah 11 into full reality, but we can be agents of the peace it describes in the lives and world around us while we wait for the One who will. A Prayer for You Today Root of Jesse, Scripture speaks of a coming day when You will rule in peace and righteousness, when the world will be filled with the knowledge of You and all will confess that Jesus is Lord. With Your rule, peace will come to all of creation. I long for this day when wars will cease, humans will live in harmony with Your good creation, and death will die. Right now, I find myself in the in-between of here but not yet. Help me wait in faithfulness, making the most of my opportunities to promote peace in the lives and world around me. May I live with steady trust that the current brokenness of creation is not forever. Peace is coming. And so I trust, in the words of Julian of Norwich, that all shall be well. In Jesus' name, Amen.     More than half of American Christians now say they trust AI with their spiritual life. That is a problem worth taking seriously, and it is also the reason Logos built its AI the way it did. Dr. James Spencer talks with Scott Lindsey, an executive director at Logos, about what happens when a Bible study tool is cut off from the open internet on purpose. Scott walks through the three design commitments behind Logos AI: no connection to the open web, so answers come from commentaries and scholarship rather than blogs and forums; cited sources down to the page number, as a check against hallucinated books and hallucinated authors; and no attempt to model the user and tell him what he wants to hear. He also explains the one thing Logos coders have hard-coded the tool to refuse, which is writing your sermon, your paper, or your Bible study for you.     March or Die - All Four of His Adopted Kids Fell Apart & He Asked His Church to Fire Him | Pastor Rich Cundall

    Pastor Rich Cundall and his wife Laurie adopted four children. Years later, all four were in crisis at the same time and Rich walked into his own board of elders and asked them to decide whether he was still fit to lead. He told them he hoped they would let him go. They said no. And the third reason they gave him changed how he understands leadership: "We need an example of what it looks like to walk through the valley of the shadow of death. What it looks like to be broken and still trust Christ." Sixteen years later, Rich is still the pastor at Hessel Church and he is careful to say that the story does not have a tidy ending. One of the four has been healed. The other three, in his words, are "still working on their testimonies."     Thinking Christian: Clear Theology for a Confusing... - Why Do Christian Institutions Compromise To Stay Alive?

    Institutions confuse their own survival with the work of God. Dr. James Spencer and Dr. Ashish Varma close the diagnostic arc of this series with transaction, meaning the trade a person or an organization makes when preserving the platform becomes more important than the faithfulness the platform was built for. The anchor text is Jeroboam, who sets up worship at Dan and Bethel not to introduce a different god but to keep his people from traveling south. Varma's reading sharpens it: the question is whether Israel gathers around the presence of God or whether God is expected to gather around Israel. The conversation turns on how easily success gets read as approval. Spencer flags the language of institutions insisting that God needs them to be what they are now more than ever. Varma answers with Habakkuk, where God raises up Babylon in response to injustice and Babylon is still judged for how it behaves, and extends the point to a mission history in which the gospel genuinely spread through colonial expansion that was itself blessed by churches and was still indefensible. Being used is not the same as being approved. Spencer adds Nebuchadnezzar, named as God's servant and punished seventy years later, and the distinction holds: the exile was deserved, the brutality was not. What follows is uncomfortable for anyone who works in one of these places. Institutions may end because their course is run, or because they failed, or in spite of their faithfulness, and outcomes do not tell you which. Spencer, who consults with seminaries and Christian colleges, describes leaders trapped by buildings, accreditation, and systems, protecting a vehicle rather than the thing the vehicle was for. Nobody pursues a doctorate in order to preserve an institution. The question both men land on is whether the model has quietly been substituted for the mission.     Your Nightly Scripture - Seeing God's Care in the World Around Me (Psalm 104)

    Evening Scripture Psalm 104 Praise the Lord, my soul. Lord my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty. The Lord wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters. He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind. He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants. He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved. You covered it with the watery depths as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. But at your rebuke the waters fled, at the sound of your thunder they took to flight they flowed over the mountains, they went down into the valleys, to the place you assigned for them. You set a boundary they cannot cross; never again will they cover the earth. He makes springs pour water into the ravines; it flows between the mountains. They give water to all the beasts of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. The birds of the sky nest by the waters; they sing among the branches. He waters the mountains from his upper chambers; the land is satisfied by the fruit of his work. He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate—bringing forth food from the earth: wine that gladdens human hearts, oil to make their faces shine, and bread that sustains their hearts. The trees of the Lord are well watered, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted. There the birds make their nests; the stork has its home in the junipers. The high mountains belong to the wild goats; the crags are a refuge for the hyrax. He made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down. Evening Reflection This evening, spend a few moments outdoors or looking outside through a window to notice the magnificence of your surroundings. Take in the shape of the clouds as God’s “chariot.” See God robed and glorious in the light of the setting sun. Marvel at the moon. How its gravitational pull keeps the Earth steady and the seasons constant. Listen for the song of a bird, singing its Creator’s praises. This is God’s work, created to be our home. Breathe deeply, observe intently, and listen carefully to all that God has provided. The Almighty, Sovereign God commands nature. He cares for and nourishes His creatures, from the weakest to the wildest of animals. Even when those who are made in His image are wild at heart, He satisfies their nee

    Your Nightly Prayer: Evening Prayers for Christian... - Peace for the One Who Feels Stretched Too Thin

    It happens gradually, and that is part of what makes it so hard to catch. One more yes. One more person who needs something. One more crisis to manage, email to answer, meeting to sit through. And then one day the body is still moving but the soul has quietly run out of fuel, and we realize we have been running on empty for longer than we can remember. David wrote Psalm 62 not from a place of peace and resolution but from the middle of real pressure. Enemies surrounding him. Misunderstanding pressing in from every side. The weight of leadership bearing down without relief. And from inside all of that, he does something remarkable. He speaks directly to his own soul. Yes, my soul, find rest in God. He does not say: find rest when this is over. He does not tell himself to wait until the circumstances settle, the project ends, the season finally turns. He makes a deliberate, intentional choice to return to rest in the middle of the pressure, because he understands something important. His circumstances had not changed. But his God never changed either. And that was enough to preach to his own heart. The rest David describes is not primarily about sleep or a weekend away, though those things matter. The Hebrew word carries the image of being still, quiet, and waiting with confidence. It is the posture of someone who has stopped believing that everything depends entirely on them. The racing thoughts, the did I do enough, the what happens if I step away, all of it quieting in the presence of a God who is already working and does not need our constant management to keep things from falling apart. Hope has a source, David says. And it is not getting caught up. It is not finally reaching the end of the list. It comes from Him. Our security, our salvation, our hope are found in Christ alone. He can work while we rest in Him. Tonight, the stretched and depleted soul is invited to stop. Not when things calm down. Now. Right here. He is already holding what you have been white-knuckling, and He does not grow weary. Ponder Tonight David's choice to rest in God was intentional and deliberate, made from the middle of pressure rather than from the other side of it. That is the kind of rest Psalm 62 is describing, not the rest of resolution but the rest of trust. The Hebrew word for rest in this passage carries the image of stillness, quiet confidence, and a release of the need to control. It is the posture of someone who has genuinely transferred responsibility for outcomes to the One who was always better suited to hold them. Hope rooted in getting caught up or finishing the list is hope that will always be deferred. Hope rooted in God is available right now, in the middle of full and demanding and exhausting seasons, because it comes from Him rather than from our circumstances cooperating. Asking what our lives would look like if we let our souls genuinely rest in Jesus is not a rhetorical question. It is one of the most important and honest conversations we can bring to Him tonight. Tonight's Scripture "Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him." — Psalm 62:5, NIV Your Evening Prayer Lord Jesus, Even when we feel stretched too thin, You see the burdens we carry and the responsibilities we hold. Forgive us for believing that all of these depend on us. Forgive us for waiting until things calm down before we allow ourselves to rest in You. Teach our souls to find rest in You now, in the middle of the full and demanding season, not on the other side of it. Help us release the things that steal our peace and joy.     How to Study the Bible - Bible Study Made Simple - Sabbath Was Made for You, Not the Other Way Around

    Before we get into anything else today, can I just ask you a question? Are you experiencing genuine restoration and refreshment in your life right now? Not entertainment. Not distraction. Real restoration. Because most people I know would say no, and that's exactly where this week's rhythm comes in. We're talking about Sabbath today, and I know that word can land differently depending on where you're coming from. Maybe it brings up guilt about Sunday sports schedules. Maybe it feels like an Old Testament rule that doesn't apply anymore. Maybe you're in ministry, and Sunday is your biggest work day of the week. Wherever you're starting from, I want us to take a breath and start from scratch, because Jesus Himself tells us something really clarifying about what Sabbath is actually for. We're in Mark chapter 2, where the disciples are grabbing a snack as they walk through a grain field on the Sabbath, and the Pharisees immediately call them out. Jesus responds by pointing back to King David, who ate sacred bread from the altar when he was hungry, and then delivers one of the most liberating lines in all of Scripture: "The Sabbath was made to meet the needs of the people, and not people to meet the requirements of the Sabbath." That's the whole principle, right there. The Sabbath was made for you. We also go back to the original command in Exodus 20, and what I love about it is how tender it is. It's not just rest for the head of the household, it's rest for your children, your servants, your animals, and the foreigners living among you. There is so much care and justice built into this rhythm from the very beginning. And then we talk about what Sabbath could actually look like in your real life, not a list of rules, but a genuine question: what does holy refreshment look like for you? For some people it's creativity, painting, gardening, making something. For others it's actual rest, napping, being still. For others it's uninterrupted time with people they love, or being in nature. There's no one-size-fits-all answer here. But the invitation is the same for all of us: stop. Trust that God is at the helm. And see what happens when you actually let yourself rest.
