    Your Daily Prayer - A Prayer When You’re in a Bible-Reading Funk

Bible-reading funks are more common than most people admit, and they arrive for all kinds of reasons. A busy season of life, a complicated history with how Scripture was taught, the ordinary pull of a tired and distracted mind — any of these can quietly erode the habit of regular Bible reading until weeks have passed and the distance from God's Word feels both familiar and vaguely guilty. The honest acknowledgment that we are not always naturally eager to open the Bible is not a sign of weak faith. It is a sign that faith is a commitment, not just a feeling. Psalm 1 paints a picture of someone whose delight is in the law of the Lord and who meditates on it day and night — and the result is a life that is like a tree planted by streams of water, bearing fruit in season and never withering. That kind of rootedness does not happen accidentally. It is the fruit of a sustained, intentional commitment to staying in the Word even when it does not feel compelling. One practical strategy that has proven remarkably effective for getting out of a Bible-reading funk is finding someone whose spiritual wellbeing matters deeply to you and committing to read Scripture with or to them once a day. It does not have to be a long passage. It does not have to be perfectly timed or beautifully executed. It simply has to happen. Accountability, even the chaotic and imperfect kind, has a way of keeping us tethered to the Word better than good intentions ever do. Stay committed not because it always feels good, but because goodness is only found when we are anchored in the truth and love of God's Word. Today's Bible Verse "Blessed is the one whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither." — Psalm 1:1-3, NIV Ponder Today Faith is a commitment, not a feeling. If Bible reading relied on feeling eager and inspired, most of us would rarely open its pages. Discipline practiced in the absence of feeling is what produces the deep-rootedness Psalm 1 describes. Finding someone to read Scripture with creates accountability that good intentions cannot. When someone else's spiritual well-being is connected to our commitment, the stakes shift. We show up not just for ourselves but for them. The goal does not have to be impressive to be effective. One Psalm a day. One short passage. A specific, measurable, realistic commitment practiced consistently will do more for your Bible reading than an ambitious plan that lasts three days. A Bible-reading funk is not a permanent state — it is a season to push through. The feelings of intimidation, boredom, or distance from God's Word are real, but they are not reliable guides for whether we should open the Bible. The Word itself is what revives those feelings over time. Stay the course because Jesus is running it with you. The hard disciplines are the only ones truly worth pursuing and treasuring. A life rooted in Scripture bears fruit in every season — including the ones where the leaves feel like they might not make it. A Prayer for You Today Lord, in our sinful flesh it is so easy to shrug off Your Word, to dismiss its beauty, power, and freedom. Whether it is a busy season, a challenging circumstance, or the enemy's distractions, we too easily place Bible reading on the back burner. Please grant us the discernment to find someone we can read Your truth with, and may this commitment to Scripture revive our hearts and awaken a new desire to stay tethered to who You are through the pages of the Bible. In Your holy name we pray, Fath

Praying Christian Women - 496 Hearing God Without Putting Words in His Mouth

Don't forget to grab your free scripture journal at PrayingChristianWomen.com/journal today! Have you ever wondered if that "gut feeling" is your intuition speaking, or if it's actually the Holy Spirit? This week, Alana and Jaime dive into an honest and thought-provoking conversation on how to tell the difference between human intuition and Holy Spirit discernment—and why confusing the two can actually be dangerous. In this episode, Alana and Jaime tackle the all-too-common Christian habit of "over-spiritualizing" our personal choices. They unpack the spiritual danger of using the phrase "God told me" to justify our own desires, make excuses for being flaky, or shut down disagreements. They explain why making God the "fall guy" for our decisions or personality quirks can border on taking His name in vain, and why it's okay to just want things without putting a divine stamp on them! Jaime also shares the personal story of her family's move to Alaska, revealing how she used scripture to seek confirmation when she wasn't sure if the decision was driven by a personal desire or a divine calling. Together, they explore the beautiful truth that intuition is a God-given gift designed to protect and guide us, and why honoring your gut instincts (like sensing an unsafe situation) doesn't have to conflict with your faith. Come listen and you’ll walk away with a fresh perspective on the incredible freedom we have in Christ, a reminder of God's joyful and loving character, and practical wisdom on how to seek clarity when you aren't sure whose voice you're hearing. Your Hope-Filled Perspective with Dr. Michelle Ben... - Daring to Hope When Your Heart Is Shattered: Trusting God Through Pain and Loss

Episode Summary: When you are crushed and broken hearted, where do you go to find hope? Jesus said that in this life we will have pain, heartbreak, and trials. So how do we deal with our pain? What does it look like to walk with God in our grief. Our guest today has experienced her share of pain including a traumatic brain injury as well as cancer diagnoses for two of her daughters. In her suffering, Linda boldly asked God tough questions like How do I keep going? God, where are you? And How do I keep trusting. In honor of Grief Awareness Day, today we’re going to be talking about Daring to Hope When Your Heart Is Shattered: Trusting God Through Pain and Loss. Quotables from the episode: I'm going to dare to hope anyway. I am going to dare to hope. God, I can't give up. I have to keep trusting you. I will not give up. I will not give up. I will not give up. Hope does not come from a change in your circumstances, but from a change in your thinking. I had to look up, I had to look at him, and I had to say ‘I won't give up.’ You are my hope, God, and my hope will be in you. If I got on my knees and opened my hands and surrendered to him, I got my perspective right because my eyes were lifted up to him. The greatest way to pour hope into your hurting heart is to sink deep into the love of God. Because being with you, my beloved, is the most important thing in my life. Peace can't be in our circumstances. It has to be in him. Scripture References: Lamentations 3:21-24 “Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, ‘The Lord is my inheritance;’ therefore, I will hope in him!” Habakkuk 2:4 “The just shall live by faith.” Romans 15:13 “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Recommended Resources: Hope for My Hurting Heart: 8 Heart Skills to Help You Cling to God and Not Give Up by Linda Dillow Calm My Anxious Heart by Linda Dillow Free Stress-Response Personality Assessment Sacred Scars: Resting in God’s Promise That Your Past Is Not Wasted by Dr. Michelle Bengtson The Hem of His Garment: Reaching Out To God When Pain Overwhelms by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner AWSA 2024 Golden Scroll Christian Living Book of the Year and the 2024 Christian Literary Awards Reader’s Choice Award in the Christian Living and Non-Fiction categories YouVersion 5-Day Devotional Reaching Out To God When Pain Overwhelms Today is Going to be a Good Day: 90 Promises from God to Start Your Day Off Right by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, AWSA Member of the Year, winner of the AWSA 2023 Inspirational Gift Book of the Year Award, the 2024 Christian Literary Awards Reader’s Choice Award in the Devotional category, the 2023 Christian Literary Awards Reader’s Choice Award in four categories, and the Christian Literary Awards Henri Award for Devotionals

Thinking Christian: Clear Theology for a Confusing... - When Your Interpretation Becomes the Authority | Inversion

James Spencer and Ashish Varma continue the series on what narrows the church's vision with a look at inversion — what happens when an interpretive grid quietly takes over the authority that belongs to Scripture itself. The conversation moves from the hermeneutical spiral (nobody comes to the text from nowhere) to the passages most of us never work: the command not to destroy fruit trees in Deuteronomy 20, God giving the land little by little in Deuteronomy 7, the instruction not to dispossess Moab in Deuteronomy 2, and the "remember the poor" tagline at the end of Paul's account of the Jerusalem council. James and Ashish ask what those texts do to confident readings of conquest, Christian nationalism and dominionism. They also walk through how heresy was actually decided — Augustine and Pelagius, Nicaea in 325 and the deliberate loosening of that language in 381 — and why the young-earth reading of Genesis 1 owes more to a social moment than to the text. Plus: Acts 7, Aquinas, and why interpretations should be written in pencil. From the Nazi Olympics to the Ukraine famine, and from the Holocaust to the Vietnam War, Rinsberg's research reveals a pattern of deliberate misreporting that had far-reaching consequences. The Bible Explained with Jenn Kokal - 1 Peter 2:1-10 - You are a Chosen Race, a Royal Priesthood, and a Holy Nation

The episode explores 1 Peter 2, discussing how Jesus is the Chief Cornerstone and the foundation of the church: Any teachings or practices that aren't grounded in Jesus can lead to spiritual instability. In contrast, those who build their faith on Jesus, the Living Stone, will find stability and security. Jesus is a stumbling stone, which refers to Jesus as a rock of offense to those who reject him. A discussion of Romans 9 and being chosen by Christ To close, Jenn emphasizes the importance of revisiting the basics of the Gospel, even for more advanced Christians. Your Nightly Scripture - Finding Quietness When Life Feels Loud (Isaiah 32)

Evening Scripture Isaiah, Chapter 32 See, a king will reign in righteousness and rulers will rule with justice. Each one will be like a shelter from the wind and a refuge from the storm, like streams of water in the desert and the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land. Then the eyes of those who see will no longer be closed, and the ears of those who hear will listen. The fearful heart will know and understand, and the stammering tongue will be fluent and clear. No longer will the fool be called noble nor the scoundrel be highly respected. For fools speak folly, their hearts are bent on evil: They practice ungodliness and spread error concerning the Lord; the hungry they leave empty and from the thirsty they withhold water. Scoundrels use wicked methods, they make up evil schemes to destroy the poor with lies, even when the plea of the needy is just. But the noble make noble plans, and by noble deeds they stand. You women who are so complacent, rise up and listen to me; you daughters who feel secure, hear what I have to say! In little more than a year you who feel secure will tremble; the grape harvest will fail, and the harvest of fruit will not come. Tremble, you complacent women; shudder, you daughters who feel secure! Strip off your fine clothes and wrap yourselves in rags. Beat your breasts for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vines and for the land of my people, a land overgrown with thorns and briers— yes, mourn for all houses of merriment and for this city of revelry. The fortress will be abandoned, the noisy city deserted; citadel and watchtower will become a wasteland forever, the delight of donkeys, a pasture for flocks, till the Spirit is poured on us from on high, and the desert becomes a fertile field, and the fertile field seems like a forest. The Lord’s justice will dwell in the desert, his righteousness live in the fertile field. The fruit of that righteousness will be peace; its effect will be quietness and confidence forever. My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest. Though hail flattens the forest and the city is leveled completely, how blessed you will be, sowing your seed by every stream, and letting your cattle and donkeys range free. Evening Reflection It was only Tuesday, but I didn’t know how I was going to make it through the rest of my week. With a million thoughts in my mind and 200 items on my to-do list, I was exhausted, overstimulated, and anxious. Riddled by fear and what-ifs, I craved relief, stability, and the end of my tasks. Have you ever been in this place? Sometimes, no matter how calm life may appear on the outside, our heads and hearts grow too loud. Racing thoughts, fear of the future, and emotional numbness consume us. And this is the picture I see refuted in Isaiah 32. While Isaiah paints a picture of safety, refuge, strength, justice, and restoration, he also offers beautiful imagery. A future where we find: shelter from the wind refuge from the storm streams in the desert shade in a thirsty land The reality of this imagery is that God’s presence brings all of these things and more. He brings steadiness in seasons of chaos. And because He lives within us, we can have power over our greatest fears. This doesn’t mean that our anxiety or struggles will magically cease, but it does mean that we can find eternal rest for our souls. Anxiety often keeps us hyper-alert and emotionally exhausted. But trust in God doesn’t mean immediate peace; it’s choosing to trust in His character even when the anxiety doesn’t cease. “Fearful hearts will know and understand” because God gently calms our confused and worried minds over time. Quietness isn’t pretending everything is okay; it’s learning who we anchor our

Your Nightly Prayer: Evening Prayers for Christian... - When You’re Afraid of Getting it Wrong

Psalm 32:8 is a promise worth holding onto in every season of difficult decision-making. "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. I will counsel you with my loving eye on you." This is not a vending machine approach to guidance, where we input our question and receive the correct answer. It is the promise of a relationship, a loving, attentive, personal accompaniment through every choice we face. We often treat decision-making as though the goal is to find the single correct answer that unlocks God's perfect plan, and anything short of that risks catastrophe. But Jesus said He is the Way. Decisions are best made as we follow Him, not as we decode a map. The goal is not primarily to find the right path. It is to know and follow the right Person, trusting that He who walks with us is fully capable of redirecting what needs redirecting and redeeming what needs redeeming. You are not going to accidentally outmaneuver God's purposes. He is far greater than our decisions and our mistakes. Ponder Tonight The fear of getting a decision wrong often reveals a view of God as someone whose perfect plan is fragile enough to be disrupted by our imperfect choices. Psalm 32:8 presents a very different picture of a God who actively guides, teaches, and counsels His people. Decision-making in Scripture is relational rather than mechanical. It happens in the context of walking with God, seeking wise counsel, and following Jesus rather than searching for a formula that produces the guaranteed right answer. Wise counsel from a godly person is one of the primary ways God fulfills His promise to instruct and guide us. Seeking that counsel is not a sign of weak faith. It is wisdom in action. The question worth reframing tonight is not "what is the right choice?" but "am I walking closely enough with Jesus that I can trust Him to guide me through whichever path opens up?" Tonight's Scripture "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you." — Psalm 32:8, NIV Your Evening Prayer Lord, You know how often we second-guess ourselves when making decisions. We fear that we will somehow choose the wrong path and disrupt Your perfect plan. But You are far greater than our decisions and our mistakes. You promised to instruct us in the way we should go, and You keep Your promises. Increase our desire for a closer relationship with You, so that we seek You more than we seek the right answer. Help us trust that as we follow You, You will lead us where we need to be, and that Your loving eye is on us every step of the way. In Jesus' name, Amen. Want More? The Crosswalk Devotional: A Daily Devotional Chris... - Giving Your Adult Child's Heartbreak to God

When your adult child is going through heartbreak, it can be difficult to know what to do. You want to protect them, take away their pain, and somehow make everything better—but you can't walk through the heartbreak for them. Whether they are grieving a breakup, betrayal, disappointment, or another painful relationship experience, Christian parents can learn to support their adult children while trusting God to carry them through the storm. Isaiah 43:2 reminds us that God doesn't promise a life without painful seasons, but He does promise His presence in the middle of them: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.” As a parent, that means you don't have to fix your adult child's heartbreak. You can listen, offer a steady and loving presence, pray for them, and give their pain and future to God, trusting Him to bring healing, wisdom, and hope in His timing. Highlights How to support an adult child through heartbreak without trying to fix everything Why parents must learn to trust God with their grown children's pain How Isaiah 43:2 offers hope in seasons of grief and emotional pain Practical ways to be present for an adult child who is hurting Why listening can be more helpful than offering advice or pity How to cast your own anxiety about your child's pain on God Finding faith, hope, and love while waiting for healing and redemption Want more encouragement throughout your week? Your Daily Bible Verse - Three Steps to Take in Hard Times (Romans 12:12)

Today's Bible Verse: "Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be in constant prayer." — Romans 12:12 What should you do when you're going through hard times? Romans 12:12 gives three simple but powerful ways to respond: remain joyful in hope, practice patience through difficult circumstances, and stay faithful in prayer. These aren't quick fixes, but they provide a biblical foundation for navigating seasons of stress, uncertainty, and hardship. Hard times can make it difficult to see beyond the present moment. Yet Christian hope reminds us that our circumstances don't have the final word. Patience helps us endure when answers don't come quickly, while prayer keeps us connected to the God who is with us through every season. When life feels overwhelming, these three practices can help anchor your heart in God's faithfulness. Want more encouragement throughout your week? Crosswalk Talk: Celebrity Christian Interviews - The NFL Fullback Who Became a Psychiatric Nurse

Patrick Hill was a fullback at the University of Miami, had stints with the Titans, Broncos, and Texans, and when football doors stopped opening he asked God to lead him somewhere else. That somewhere else turned out to be a nursing program at UCLA, and eventually a career as an inpatient psychiatric nurse and orthopedic nurse practitioner. The transition made more sense than people might expect — a fullback's whole job is selfless service, blocking so someone else can score. Patrick just traded the field for the ward. True strength, Mercy Ships, and the devotional series that brought an NFL player and a Jacksonville Jaguar together: Patrick shares how nursing reshaped everything he thought he knew about strength — that the loudest victories at the bedside are often completely silent, that the most vulnerable patients carry the most unwavering faith, and that a smile from a dementia patient who remembers your name is one of the most powerful moments a human being can witness. He is part of Strength in Service, a 10-part devotional series on the Glorify app in partnership with Mercy Ships, and his message to every young athlete who thinks strength means never showing weakness is simple: be yourself, be rooted in Christ, and the sky is the limit. Highlights How a conversation with the dean of UCLA's nursing school during the NFL lockout changed the entire direction of his life Why the fullback position — the most selfless role on the field — prepared him perfectly for a life of service in healthcare What nursing taught him about strength that football never could, including the power of a hand on the back or a smile at the right moment Why he believes the strongest people he has ever met were patients at their most vulnerable How his faith shapes his approach to every patient, modeled after Jesus going after the sickest and most broken What Mercy Ships does and why its model of volunteer surgeons and free care in the world's most medically scarce regions moved him deeply His message to young Christian athletes: don't be afraid to be rooted in Christ and you will play more freely than you ever thought possible Why he believes God answered his high school prayers through a path that looked like disappointment before it looked like a blessing Resources / Links / CTA Strength in Service devotional series Mercy Ships: https://www.mercyships.org Glorify app: https://www.glorify.global/app Follow, share, and explore more of Crosswalk Talk Follow, share, and subscribe for more faith-driven conversations on Lifeaudio Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.

You’ll also meet her puppet, June Bug, who occasionally jumps in to help tell the story. Next, we’ll hear from legendary voice actor Jim Cummings, whose iconic performances as Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Darkwing Duck, and countless other beloved characters have brought comfort and joy to generations. I knew very early that I had a calling to teach kids about God’s love.” - Megan Piphus “By teaching [children] something new, they are inspired to be anything.” - Megan Piphus “It is so important for young girls to see themselves represented in the most diverse spaces and unique spaces.” - Megan Piphus “Oftentimes, kids are told, ‘I don’t know if you can do that, or I don’t know if that’s possible.’ As we get older, our world slowly confines into a space of what we see is possible and what the world tells us is possible. What I loved about puppetry is it kind of broke the rules of what’s possible.” - Megan Piphus “I was always in a lot of plays as a child, and I didn’t want to be the student prince, or this and that. I wanted to be the troll that lived under the bridge. I was inadvertently doing research for what I was going to ultimately do when I grew up.” - Jim Cummings “Winnie the Pooh is like comfort for the soul. ‘You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.’ He’s got a lot of that folksy wisdom that people rely on to get through tough times. Your Daily Prayer - A Prayer to Pull Away to a Quiet Place Before Autumn Hits

The calendar is about to fill back up. New school schedules, new work projects, church commitments, and the steady accumulation of fall's demands are just around the corner. Autumn is an exciting season, but it also carries a real risk of losing peace of mind to stress if we enter it without intentional preparation. Right now, before the rush arrives, there is a sacred window of time available — and the wisest thing we can do with it is pull away to a quiet place. Isaiah 26:3 connects perfect peace directly to a mind that is steadfast in trusting God. Without regular quiet time to reset that focus, the mind becomes like a fallen leaf tossed around by the wind — distracted by the present and anxious about the future. Going into a busy season with a mind in that state means being easily overwhelmed by demands that would otherwise feel manageable. Quiet time with God is not a luxury for special occasions. It is how we build the spiritual reservoir we draw from when the harder days arrive. Filling ourselves with His love and wisdom now means that when the pressure of a full fall schedule hits, we will not have to scramble for peace. It will already be there, steady and available, because the foundation beneath us is strong. Choosing to pull away to a quiet place is itself an act of trust — a declaration that we believe God will meet our needs even when we stop driving ourselves relentlessly forward. Bible Verse "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you." — Isaiah 26:3, NIV Ponder Today A steadfast mind is a prepared mind. When quiet time with God becomes a regular practice, the mind grows calm and focused. When it is neglected, the mind grows anxious and easily overwhelmed. The difference shows up most clearly in the busiest seasons. Choosing rest is an act of trust. The belief that we cannot afford to stop is rooted in the fear that our life depends entirely on our own effort. Pulling away to a quiet place tells God we trust Him to hold things together while we rest in His presence. Build the spiritual reservoir now so you can draw from it later. The peace, wisdom, and renewal you receive in quiet time with God do not disappear when you return to a busy schedule. They carry you through it. A Prayer for You Today Dear God, I can feel the upcoming autumn season approaching, and I already want to race ahead into the busyness of it. I confess that I often let my mind get cluttered with worries about tasks I need to complete and problems I need to solve. But right now, I am choosing to stop worrying and start trusting You more. In this quiet place, please quiet the noise inside my soul. Send me Your peace. I want to live with a steadfast mind rooted in Your truth, not a mind constantly tossed around by changing circumstances. I surrender my need for constant productivity and choose to rest in Your presence. I trust You to meet all of my needs. As the seasons change outside, let Your unchanging peace keep me steady. Thank You, God. Amen. Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.
