One of the toughest parts of ADHD is left out of the diagnosis

ADHD diagnoses are on the rise in the United States, but what if professionals are missing a key part of the disorder? In the 1970s, some clinicians recognized a lot of their ADHD patients had trouble with emotional regulation. But because it was easier to measure behavior rather than emotions, the criteria eventually fell off the radar. Today in the U.S., emotional dysregulation is not a part of the ADHD diagnostic criteria in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). Dr. Sasha Hamdani thinks that needs to change. In today’s episode, she talks about her book Too Sensitive, and explains what is going on in the brains of people with Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria. • Center of Excellence - Pharma 4.0 by Dr. Jayant Joshi

Emerging Technologies in Pharma Risk and Opportunity Management

Emerging Technologies in Pharma Risk and Opportunity Management The pharmaceutical industry is undergoing a profound transformation as artificial intelligence, advanced robotics, predictive analytics, edge computing, digital twins, blockchain, and connected digital supply chains reshape how medicines are discovered, manufactured, distributed, and delivered. But technology-driven transformation in pharma is not simply about adopting new tools. It is about managing the complex balance between opportunity and risk while the industry continues to operate under intense regulatory, quality, cybersecurity, patient-safety, and business-continuity pressures. In this episode of Center of Excellence - Pharma 4.0, we explore how emerging technologies are changing the risk landscape across the pharmaceutical value chain—and how organizations can use these same technologies to build greater resilience, agility, and operational excellence. What We Explore in This Episode AI and Machine Learning in Pharma R&D – How advanced algorithms can accelerate drug discovery, clinical development, and decision-making, while introducing challenges around explainability, bias, governance, and regulatory acceptance. Data, Cybersecurity and Intellectual Property Risk – Why the growing dependence on massive volumes of research, clinical, manufacturing, and patient data creates increasingly significant cybersecurity and data-integrity risks. Edge Computing and Smart Manufacturing – How processing data closer to connected equipment can enable faster automation and real-time decisions, while creating new technology-integration, legacy-system, and vendor-dependency challenges. The Financial Case for Digital Transformation – Why high technology investments and uncertain ROI must be considered against the much greater strategic risk of falling behind competitors in an increasingly digital pharmaceutical industry. Digital Supply Chain Resilience – How advanced analytics can help organizations move from reactive supply-chain management toward predictive demand planning and proactive inventory positioning. Digital Twins for Business Continuity – How virtual replicas of pharmaceutical supply chains can be used to simulate disruptions, identify bottlenecks, test alternative scenarios, and strengthen resilience before real-world crises occur. Blockchain for Traceability and Quality – How immutable digital records can strengthen end-to-end traceability, support regulatory compliance, and help combat counterfeit medicines. Technology and Sustainability – Why greater supply-chain visibility can transform sustainability from a broad corporate objective into a measurable and optimizable operational challenge. Continuous Risk and Opportunity Management – Why digital transformation should be treated as a continuous management cycle rather than a one-time technology implementation, with organizations constantly identifying trends, assessing impacts, mitigating risks, leveraging opportunities, and monitoring outcomes. The Human Side of Pharma 4.0 – Why technology alone cannot deliver transformation. Cross-functional collaboration, skilled talent, change readiness, strong governance, data quality, cybersecurity by design, and responsible innovation are essential foundations. The Bigger Picture The ultimate objective of emerging technology adoption in pharma is not simply greater automation, lower costs, or higher productivity. It is the creation of a more resilient, responsive, secure, and patient-centric pharmaceutical ecosystem. From AI discovering new compounds to digital twins stress-testing global supply networks, the technologies discussed in this episode demonstrate how pharmaceutical organizations can prepare for uncertainty rather than simply react to it. At the same time, increasing predictive capabilities raise an important question about the future of healthcare: How much personal health data are we willing to share in exchange for a more predictive and efficient healthcare system? This episode examines that tension between innovation, resilience, risk, ethics, and privacy—and why successful Pharma 4.0 transformation ultimately depends as much on people and organizational culture as it does on technology. Listen to this episode to explore how pharmaceutical organizations can turn emerging technologies from sources of disruption and risk into strategic capabilities for resilience, innovation, and better patient outcomes.
