Episode 296: Teaching Investment Judgment to Heirs

Stop letting trillions transfer to the next generation unprepared and start teaching investment judgment through real decisions with real consequences using the proven family office framework that builds wealth stewardship across generations. In this episode of Family Office Daily, M.C. Laubscher reveals why most generational wealth disappears within two generations—not from incompetent heirs but from never teaching investment judgment—and shares the five-stage family office method: start heirs with small real capital allocation of twenty-five thousand dollars with real consequences, debrief every decision analyzing thesis and thinking process not outcomes, have them sit in investment reviews watching how you evaluate opportunities and decline deals, require them to present deals practicing articulation of investment theses, and finally co-invest in larger deals with your capital and their decision-making with guidance. Biggest wealth transfer in history happening right now, trillions moving generation to next, most gone within two generations. Not because heirs incompetent—never taught investment judgment. Can't teach judgment with lectures, teach with decisions, small ones first where mistakes cost hundreds not millions. Family office method: start heirs small capital allocation, not pretend money—real capital real consequences, twenty-five thousand dollars, let them invest, let them win, let them lose, let them feel both. Debrief every decision, not criticize—analyze: what was thesis, what happened, what do differently, learning isn't outcome it's thinking process. Next level: sit in investment reviews, see how evaluate opportunities, how ask questions, how decline deals, learn saying no more important than yes. Then present deals to you, not get approval—practice articulating investment theses, learn think like investor before become one. Final stage: co-invest alongside larger deals, your capital their decision-making, stakes higher but you're there guide. Goal not creating investment geniuses—teaching judgment so can hire and evaluate right people, won't manage every investment but must know enough know who can. What To Do If You Can’t Get A Student Loan For College

For most undergraduates, paying for college starts with a Federal Direct Loan in the student's name, with no credit check and no cosigner. The problem is the size. A dependent freshman can borrow $5,500, and even a senior tops out at $7,500, while the average sticker price at a private four-year college runs well past $40,000 a year. When the federal loan runs out, families turn to a Parent PLUS loan or a private loan, and that is where the "can't get a student loan" problem starts. Parents get denied for adverse credit history, or get approved but hit the new $20,000 annual cap. Students without a creditworthy cosigner get turned down by private lenders, and more than 93% of private undergraduate loans require a cosigner. Each dead end below has a fix, from the federal options most families miss to the handful of private lenders that approve students other lenders won't, along with what those loans cost.
