    The Blob - 1988 (review)

Day 47 in 60 Days of Halloween continues Fear of Being Eaten Alive Week (the fear of Matt Mercer) with The Blob - an 80s remake of the classic Steve McQueen red scare creature feature, but with way more body horror and 1000% more permed mullet on the lead character (Kevin Dillon) If you enjoy this episode, check out our previous 60 Days of Halloween coverage and be sure to check back tomorrow as we close out Fear of Being Eaten Alive Week with a palette cleanser (whoops...just realized that yesterday's episode said that today would be the palette cleanser. That was incorrect. Tomorrow is the palette cleanser...for real this time) before diving into the analysis episode with special guest, Matt Mercer!! Tremors - 1990 (review)

Day 46 in 60 Days of Halloween continues Fear of Being Eaten Alive Week (the fear of Matt Mercer) with Tremors - a horror comedy about carnivorous sand worms that takes the comedy seriously and the horror lightly, while at the same time having a solid grasp on what makes horror movies fun. I said this while recording the podcast, but Tremors takes place in Perfection, and it IS perfection!! Day of the Dead - 1985 (review)

Day 45 in 60 Days of Halloween continues Fear of Being Eaten Alive Week (the fear of Matt Mercer) with Day of the Dead - before there was a glut of zombies in pop culture, mindlessly overtaking everything just as they do in the movies about them, George A. Romero terrified audiences with his iconic "dead" films...each of which understood that what makes zombie movies so terrifying is what the zombies represent and not the zombies themselves, while at the same time expanding on zombie lore which still has a lasting influence on most modern iterations of zombies. Day of the Dead still stands out as an amazing horror movie, with practical effects by Tom Savini that still hold up to this day!! If you enjoy this episode, check out our previous 60 Days of Halloween coverage and be sure to check back tomorrow as we continue Fear of Being Eaten Alive Week (the fear of Matt Mercer) with Tremors!! Piranha - 1978 (review)

Day 44 in 60 Days of Halloween continues Fear of Being Eaten Alive Week (the fear of Matt Mercer) with Piranha - a film that has many flaws from a technical standpoint, but still has all of the Joe Dante charm that makes it really enjoyable and highly rewatchable!! If you enjoy this episode, check out our previous 60 Days of Halloween coverage and be sure to check back tomorrow as we continue Fear of Being Eaten Alive Week (the fear of Matt Mercer) with Day of the Dead!! Anaconda - 1997 (review)

Day 43 in 60 Days of Halloween kicks off Fear of Being Eaten Alive Week (the fear of Matt Mercer) with Anaconda - a late 90s creature feature that got a lot of things right in theory (and does have some definite highlights), misses the mark overall in execution, but still manages to have a decently high rewatchability factor...if for no other reason than trying to figure out where Jon Voight's accent is supposed to be from. If you enjoy this episode, check out our previous 60 Days of Halloween coverage and be sure to check back tomorrow as we continue Fear of Being Eaten Alive Week (the fear of Matt Mercer) with Piranha!! Escape from New York - 1981 (review)

Day 41 in 60 Days of Halloween wraps up Fear of Death Week, the fear of J.R. Mounts (scairytalesnoir.com), with the palette cleanser Escape from New York - a "futuristic" dystopian take on classic westerns (at least, that's how we see it) that brings up societal issues that are still very relevant. Also, we find a way to connect Escape from New York to the Super Mario Bros. movie...because of course we do.... If you enjoy this episode, check out our previous 60 Days of Halloween coverage and be sure to check back tomorrow as we dive into the analysis episode for Fear of Death Week with special guest J.R. Halloween II - 1981 (review)

Day 40 in 60 Days of Halloween continues Fear of Death Week, the fear of J.R. Mounts (scairytalesnoir.com), with Halloween II - a great slasher flick in its own right and definitely a solid sequel...but isn't quite able to stand up next to the masterpiece of Halloween. If you enjoy this episode, check out our previous 60 Days of Halloween coverage and be sure to check back tomorrow as we have a palette cleanser before diving into the analysis episode for Fear of Death Week with with J.R. Halloween - 1978 (review)

Day 39 in 60 Days of Halloween continues Fear of Death Week, the fear of J.R. Mounts (scairytalesnoir.com), with Halloween - one of the most iconic and influential horror movies that has a lasting impact on anyone who has seen it. Tonight's episode is extra special because it might or might not have been the first time that Eric watched Halloween (it totally is...). Christine - 1983 (review)

Day 38 in 60 Days of Halloween continues Fear of Death Week, the fear of J.R. Mounts (scairytalesnoir.com), with Christine - a premise that sounds silly (it is about a demon car, afterall) until you realize that it is actually kind of terrifying (it is totally not really about the demon car at all...). The Thing - 1982 (review)

Day 37 in 60 Days of Halloween continues Fear of Death Week, the fear of J.R. Mounts (scairytalesnoir.com), with The Thing - a sci-fi, body horror-esque monster movie that plays heavily on distrust and the monster within! The Thing is not only one of my favorite horror movies, but one of my all-time favorite movies in general!! If you enjoy this episode, check out our previous 60 Days of Halloween coverage and be sure to check back tomorrow as we continue Fear of Death Week with Christine!! Day 36 in 60 Days of Halloween kicks off Fear of Death Week, the fear of J.R. Mounts (scairytalesnoir.com), and we are getting things started with The Fog - a simple (yet, not simplistic) ghost story by John Carpenter that evokes the same chills you got when you were younger and told scary stories around a campfire! In the Mouth of Madness - 1994 (review)

Day 34 in 60 Days of Halloween wraps up the reviews for Fear of Going Insane Week before diving into the analysis episode with special guest, Graham Skipper! And we are ending the week on a definite high note with In the Mouth of Madness - a John Carpenter film (I could stop there and it would be reason enough to love this movie) with a story that feels like Stephen King meets H.P. Lovecraft, starring Sam Neill!! If you enjoy this episode, check out our previous 60 Days of Halloween coverage and be sure to check back tomorrow as special guest Graham Skipper joins us for the analysis episode of Fear of Going Insane Week!! Session 9 - 2001 (review)

Day 33 in 60 Days of Halloween continues Fear of Going Insane Week, the fear of Graham Skipper, with Session 9 - a horror might that might follow the horror trope of an abandoned asylum a little too closely, but that has a focus on the characters and tells a simple story without being simplistic. Antichrist - 2009 (review)

Day 32 in 60 Days of Halloween continues Fear of Going Insane Week, the fear of Graham Skipper, with Antichrist - a Lars von Trier film with powerful performances, unsettling and provocative imagery, and more Willem Dafoe butt than I especially wanted to see (but less than what I had expected from what I had heard of the film). Kill List - 2011 (review)

Day 31 in 60 Days of Halloween continues Fear of Going Insane Week, the fear of Graham Skipper, with Kill List - a solid British horror film that gives the audience credit and doesn't try to hold their hand and ruin the experience with an excess of exposition! If you enjoy this episode, check out our previous 60 Days of Halloween coverage and be sure to check back tomorrow as we continue Fear of Going Insane Week with Antichrist!! We are halfway through 60 Days of Halloween, have been having a blast, and still have even more great horror movies to discuss!! Day 29 in 60 Days of Halloween is the analysis episode for Kevin and Jennifer Sluder's (of Sunshine Boy Productions) combined fears week of Child in Peril and Being Powerless/Trapped!! I had the pleasure of talking to Kevin and Jennifer a few months ago to discuss their short film, Heartless. We had a blast on that episode and I couldn't wait to have them back on The Gargyle Podcast to talk about their fears leading up to Halloween!! If you enjoy this episode, check out our previous 60 Days of Halloween coverage and be sure to check back tomorrow as we start Fear of Going Insane Week (the fear of Graham Skipper) with Jacob's Ladder!! Tigers Are Not Afraid (2017) & Sequence Break (2017) - reviews

Day 28 in 60 Days of Halloween is a "bonus" episode with two reviews. The first is a quick review of Kevin's palette cleanser film, Tigers Are Not Afraid. This is a quick review because the film has not yet been picked up for major release, but I was lucky enough to be able to see it at the Chattanooga Film Festival. The second review, Sequence Break, transitions us into next week and our focus on Graham Skipper's fear of going insane! I've discussed both of these films on past episodes, including a fairly in-depth discussion with Graham Skipper about his film, Sequence Break. But, I wanted to get the Chimerican's take on this film before diving into Fear of Going Insane Week... If you enjoy this episode, check out our previous 60 Days of Halloween coverage and be sure to check back tomorrow for our analysis episode of Child in Peril & Fear of Being Powerless/Trapped Week with special guests Kevin and Jennifer Sluder!
