Thursday · 2 minBe Still and Know Daily Bible Devotion - September 3rd - Acts 17:32-34
Acts 17:32-34 When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some of them sneered, but others said, “We want to hear you again on this subject.” At that, Paul left the Council. Some of the people became followers of Paul and believed. Paul received a complete range of reactions to his speech to the Areopagus. Some laughed, others wanted to hear more and yet others became believers. You couldn’t get a more varied response than that! First of all, there were those who laughed with contempt. They found the idea of the resurrection absurd. It is never pleasant to be laughed at, but Paul knew that the Christian message will always seem ridiculous to some people. Other people were sufficiently stimulated by Paul’s message to want to hear more from him at a later date. When people first hear the Christian message, it often comes as such a surprise that they don’t know how to take it all on board. They need time to stop and reflect. We need to be very patient and continually willing to talk with people about their questions and doubts. And, finally, some people believed. Among them was Dionysius, a member of the Areopagus. How thrilled Paul must have been that one of the members of this distinguished body should make a commitment to follow Christ. And remember that Paul had never intended to be in Athens at all! He was merely waiting around for a few days while Silas and Timothy caught up with him. Paul’s eagerness to share the good news of Jesus was unceasing. Question How would you support someone who was being mocked for their faith? Prayer Lord God, help me to share Your good news with other people, whatever their reaction. Amen

He talks with Skye about how separating justice and righteousness is damaging both white evangelicalism and young black activists. Also this week: Reflections on the wisdom of Dolly Parton, why religious tolerance isn't enough to heal America's divisions, and the difficulty of being an introvert within evangelicalism. Wednesday · 24 minBack to the Bible Canada with Dr. John Neufeld - The End of the Beginning: A Friendship Born of Evil
Two enemies walk away friends — and the thing that brought them together is the murder of an innocent man. Dr. John Neufeld traces Jesus's strange appearance before Herod, a king eager for a miracle and met instead with total silence and mockery when Jesus refuses to perform. It's a sobering picture of how wicked men recognize and even respect wickedness in each other — and a reminder of exactly what Jesus came to rescue us from. The End of the Beginning: Everyone knows how this story ends — Jesus is crucified, buried, and rises again. But in this 15-part series through Luke 23-24, Dr. John Neufeld shows why these familiar chapters still reward careful study, tracing the trials before Pilate and Herod and the road to the cross. Along the way, he uncovers details unique to Luke's account that reveal what kind of King Jesus truly is.

Wednesday · length unknownMax Lucado Daily Devotional - One Plus God
Listen to Today's Devotion The devil knows your name. He has a wrecking ball with your name on it. As General Eisenhower wrote to US troops on the eve of the great D-Day invasion, “Your enemy is well-trained, well-equipped and battle-hardened. He will fight savagely.” But the steadfast soul does not fear Satan. Elijah didn’t. Elijah entered Scriptures talking about the living God. He served and obeyed the living God. He sought the living God. And because he did, the 850+ prophets of Baal meant nothing to him. The equation is never 850 to 1. It is 850 to 1 plus God. F. B. Meyer said, “God will never fail the man who trusts him utterly….Be sure that you are on God’s plan, then go forward in God’s name.” Read more Unbreakable Courage For more inspirational messages please visit Max Lucado.
