    Genesis Chapter 14

In this episode of Light Among Peers, I read Genesis Chapter 14. When a coalition of kings goes to war and Lot is taken captive, Abram gathers 318 trained men, pursues the invaders, and successfully rescues his nephew. After the victory, Melchizedek — king of Salem and priest of God Most High — meets Abram with bread and wine, blesses him, and receives a tenth of everything. Abram then refuses the king of Sodom's offer of wealth so that no one can claim to have made him rich. This chapter highlights courage in action, generous response to God's blessing, and the integrity of trusting God rather than worldly gain.

    Genesis Chapter 13

In this episode of Light Among Peers, I read Genesis Chapter 13. Fresh off their journey from Egypt, Abram and his nephew Lot return to the Negev with heavy livestock and great wealth. But as their herdsmen begin to clash over limited land and resources, Abram demonstrates remarkable humility and leadership. Instead of demanding his rights as the elder, he gives Lot the first choice of where to settle.

    Genesis Chapter 12

In this episode of Light Among Peers, I read Genesis Chapter 12. God calls Abram to leave his country, his people, and his father's household for a land He will show him. With that call comes a powerful promise: Abram will become a great nation, his name will be made great, and through him all the families of the earth will be blessed. We also see Abram's journey into Canaan, the famine that drives him to Egypt, and the difficult situation that unfolds with Pharaoh.

    Genesis Chapters 10 & 11

In this episode of Light Among Peers, I read Genesis Chapters 10 and 11 together. Chapter 10 presents the "Table of Nations," mapping the descendants of Noah's sons (Japheth, Ham, and Shem) and the spread of peoples across the ancient world. Chapter 11 then shows humanity's unified rebellion at Babel — building a tower to make a name for themselves — followed by God confusing their languages and scattering them across the earth. In historical context, these chapters explain the origin of diverse nations and languages while setting the stage for God's redemptive plan through Abraham's family. A timely reminder of human pride, the limits of our ambitions, and how God sovereignly directs history.
