Your Hope-Filled Perspective with Dr. Michelle Ben... - How to Hear from God and Find Peace Without Knowing What’s Next

Episode Summary: The God of the universe is trying to communicate with you. Are you listening? Have you ever felt like God was prompting you to do something but questioned whether it was his voice? Instead of acting, you waited for another sign. What if God has already given us what we need to know if a word is from him? Today’s guest, Abby McDonald, addresses a key misconception about God's voice: that it will tell what will happen tomorrow. We've mistaken God's voice in our lives for a means of obtaining knowledge instead of embracing its power to give us peace for today. Since the fall in the garden of Eden, humanity has carried the same deception that misled Eve. We think more information will give us more freedom. But if we look at Jesus's teachings, we see that his direction was never intended to give us a roadmap. We can trade the yoke of certainty we carry for a better one: Jesus's yoke. By focusing on three promises Jesus gave us in John 10, Abby McDonald, addresses a key misconception about God's voice: that it will tell what shows a better way to live, empowered by God's Word instead of a false sense of security. In this episode of Your Hope-Filled Perspective, we’re going to be talking about How to Hear from God and Find Peace Without Knowing What’s Next. Quotables from the episode: Jesus never promised to give us a guarantee about what's going to happen now his presence with us is a guarantee absolutely but he doesn't promise to show us what's going to happen. We can trade that yoke, that need for certainty for Jesus' yoke. And he tells us his yoke is easy and his burden is light. And that doesn't promise that our lives are going to be easy and light. He doesn't promise us that, but he does promise to give us what we need for today. And there's so much more peace living in today. Until we surrender those questions that, like you said, we're just going to live in that state of anxiety, and we're going to be worrying and trying to control what is not in our ability to control. If we focus on what God has given us, the truth that He has given us, then we can live in His peace and we can have joy and abundant life. Let your fear propel you toward Jesus. Most of the time in my experience, hearing from God is more like a gentle nudge. It's more like a prompt or just this burning that I fill in my heart and I just know that I have to do something. We don't learn to recognize those nudges until we act on them. What can look like a closed door may actually just be a detour in the path that he has to get us where he wants us ultimately to go. We cannot know the voice of God if we do not know what his word says. Scripture References: John 10:27 “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, they will follow me.” John 10:9 “They will come in and go out, and find pasture.” John 10:28 “No one will snatch them out of my hand.” Recommended Resources: Surrendering Certainty: Hearing God Today by Letting Go of Tomorrow by Abby McDonald Shift: Changing Our Focus to See the Presence of God by Abby McDonald Free Stress-Response Personality Assessment Sacred Scars: Resting in God’s Promise That Your Past Is Not Wasted by Dr. Michelle Bengtson The Hem of His Garment: Reaching Out To God When Pa

Crosswalk Talk: Celebrity Christian Interviews - Grammy Winner DOE on Shiloh and the Wealth Only the Gospel Can Give

DOE, Grammy-winning singer and founding member of Forever Jones, has been leading worship her whole life. But her third solo album Shiloh, releasing August 28, is different from anything she has made before. Her mother is singing on it. Three of her siblings are in the videos. And the central conviction running through every song is one she has carried since long before she had a child of her own — someone had to make sure you knew who Jesus was, and it is your job to make sure the next generation knows too. Generational legacy, the gospel as the only lasting wealth, and a Grammy win discovered between frantic airport searches: DOE shares the heart behind Shiloh and the lead single Know Your Name, co-written with Anthony Brown and David Spencer as a declaration that if it is up to her, every generation will know the name of Jesus. She also opens up about writing Black Boy Joy for the men in her family before she was married or had a son, why she sang it at Carnegie Hall for Juneteenth, and what it felt like to find out she had won a Grammy while postpartum, running through an airport, and looking for her milk bag — holding what she calls her greatest accomplishment in her arms while receiving her greatest musical one. Highlights Why DOE says Shiloh is not just her most personal album — it is her life, her upbringing, and her mother singing beside her The central theme of the album: generational transfer of eternal wealth, the kind that can only be found through the gospel Know Your Name, co-written with Anthony Brown and David Spencer, as a declaration to pass the name of Jesus to every generation How becoming a mother sharpened her understanding of how God sees us when we are trying, striving, and not yet understanding The story behind Black Boy Joy, written for her father, brothers, uncles, and grandfathers before she had a husband or son Why she sang Black Boy Joy at Carnegie Hall for Juneteenth and what that celebration means to her as an American milestone Finding out she won a Grammy in an airport while postpartum, searching for her milk bag, and surrounded by a flood of missed calls Why she believes her next album may be entirely congregational worship and the prayer she takes into every writing session Resources / Links / CTA DOE website: https://www.doejonesmusic.com DOE Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/doejonesmusic Album: Shiloh, releasing August 28 Single: Know Your Name Follow, share, and explore more of Crosswalk Talk Follow, share, and subscribe for more faith-driven conversations on Lifeaudio Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.

Jesus Calling: Stories of Faith - Trusting God’s Presence in Success and Sorrow: Dude Perfect & Jennifer Marshall Bleakley

Today, we’re joined by Coby and Cory Cotton of Dude Perfect, who share how a simple idea filmed in a backyard with friends grew into videos watched by millions around the world on YouTube. They reflect on the early days of creating trick shots just for fun, the challenges that came with unexpected success, and a medical emergency that reminded them to slow down and make room for what matters most. Next, we hear from author and grief counselor Jennifer Marshall Bleakley, who shares how losing her golden retriever, Bailey, opened her eyes to the depths of pet grief, the memories that remain, and the love we carry after saying goodbye. So many people have been so hurt by other people. How kind of God to sprinkle ambassadors of His grace all across this planet in the form of animals. God is constantly pointing us to animals throughout Scripture, encouraging us to look to the eagle, to look to the lion who He feeds, to look to the ant who’s busy at work.” - Jennifer Marshall Bleakley “Animals are the ones that we can be 100% ourselves wi

    Latido - Batallas Silenciosas

Confessions of a Christian Alcoholic with Jon Seid... - Married to an Alcoholic Pt. 1: When Your Spouse Won't Stop Drinking, with Dr. (and Wife) Brenda Fann Katula

Dr. Brenda Fann Katula knew how to recognize alcohol addiction in an exam room. But when alcoholism took over her own home, the family physician who understood the diagnosis could not figure out how to make her husband choose sobriety—or explain to her nine-year-old son why Daddy wouldn't stop drinking. The warning signs had been there from the beginning, like the handle of rum she expected to last for weeks disappearing in a weekend. Over time, his drinking escalated to a handle a day, a blood-alcohol level of 0.4 (enough to kill some people), severe withdrawal, hidden bottles, hospital stays, confused in a cornfield, and eventually death. In Part 1 of this incredible two-part interview, Brenda explains the turning points that forced her to confront the truth, the safety plans she created for her children, and what she wishes she had done differently. She also explain one of the hardest, but most important, realizations the loved one of an addict / alcoholic can make: “I can’t work harder at his sobriety than he is." Her husband had lost his parents and older sister in a car accident when he was ten and carried unresolved trauma, depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Now, Brenda is doing what she can to make sure the cycle of hurt, pain, and addiction doesn't claim another victim—whether that's the addict, or those he or she leaves behind. We also talk about boundaries, enabling, church support, and what loved ones can do when they want recovery more than the person struggling does. It's an important episode for anyone who loves someone who struggles with an addiction and is asking, "What do I do when my friend, loved one, sibling, or spouse won't stop drinking?"
