The Bible Explained with Jenn Kokal - Esther 4 - Perhaps You Were Created for Such a Time as This

Today, we focus on the story of Esther and Mordecai's response to the horrific news that the Jewish people are about to be destroyed: Mordecai, upon learning of the decree, tears his clothes and puts on sackcloth with ashes, mourning loudly and bitterly outside the king's gate. Esther sends a eunuch to Mordecai to investigate and learns about the decree and the amount of money Haman promised to pay the king's treasuries for the destruction of the Jews. Mordecai urges Esther to go to the king to make a request for her people, but Esther is hesitant, citing the law that anyone who enters the inner court without being called will be put to death. Mordecai reassures her that she will die either way, either in 11 months when Haman's henchmen kill the Jews or if she fails to act. Esther decides to fast and pray for three days, gathering the Jews in Susa to do the same, before going to the king, which is against the law. Today's story is one of encouragement to trust in God - that perhaps you have been created for such a time as this. Your Nightly Scripture - Living Differently in a World That Pushes Back (Luke 6)

Living Differently in a World That Pushes Back Your Nightly Scripture Evening Scripture Luke, Chapter 6 One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and his disciples began to pick some heads of grain, rub them in their hands and eat the kernels. Some of the Pharisees asked, “Why are you doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?” Jesus answered them, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? He entered the house of God, and taking the consecrated bread, he ate what is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions.” Then Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.” On another Sabbath he went into the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was shriveled. The Pharisees and the teachers of the law were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal on the Sabbath. But Jesus knew what they were thinking and said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Get up and stand in front of everyone.” So he got up and stood there. Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?” He looked around at them all, and then said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and his hand was completely restored. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were furious and began to discuss with one another what they might do to Jesus. One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles: Simon (whom he named Peter), his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called the Zealot, Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor. He went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coastal region around Tyre and Sidon, who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by impure spirits were cured, and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all. Looking at his disciples, he said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man. “Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their ancestors treated the prophets. “But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort. Woe to you who are well fed now, for you will go hungry.Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep. Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you, for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets. “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you. “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. But love your enemie

Your Nightly Prayer: Evening Prayers for Christian... - Hope for an Unsettled Home

Home is supposed to be the place where we exhale. Where the comfy sweatpants come out and the shoulders finally drop and the performance of the day can be set aside. At its best, home is the place where people feel most like themselves. But there are seasons when home feels like anything but that. When tension follows everyone through the door. When uncertainty about the future makes even the familiar feel unstable. When the question of where we will be or what comes next hangs over every conversation, and no amount of comfort or routine quite touches the unease underneath. Isaiah 32:18 holds a promise that sounds almost too good for those seasons. My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest. Just reading those words is an invitation to breathe. But what is striking is what comes just before that promise in verse 15. The peace does not arrive first. The Spirit does. Before the desert becomes a fertile field, before the dry and parched land yields a harvest, the Spirit is poured out. The transformation of the home begins with the transformation of the hearts within it. Which means that seeking God's presence more earnestly in a season when the home feels unsettled is not a passive or secondary response. It is the most direct path toward the peace we are hoping for. As James writes, come near to God and He will come near to you. And Psalm 16:11 adds that in His presence there is fullness of joy. The peace we long for is not waiting on the other side of changed circumstances. It is found in the presence of the One who first changes us, and then, over time, transforms the spaces and the people and the tensions we bring to Him. Tonight, give Him your house. Not the polished version, but the real one, imperfect people and all. And ask Him to have His way not just in your heart but in your home. Ponder Tonight The promise of Isaiah 32:18 follows the outpouring of the Spirit rather than preceding it. Peace in the home begins with seeking God's presence earnestly, which is both a simpler and more demanding response than rearranging our external circumstances. What was once a desert becomes a fertile field when the Spirit is poured out. That image applies to homes as well as to physical landscapes. God specializes in producing fruit in dry and seemingly unproductive places. The peace we long for in a home is not primarily a product of resolved circumstances. It is a product of the presence of God moving freely among the people who live there. Inviting Him in, rather than waiting for things to settle first, changes the sequence entirely. Asking honestly whether we are ushering peace or chaos through the door when we arrive home is one of the most convicting and clarifying questions a believer can sit with tonight. Tonight's Scripture "My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest." — Isaiah 32:18, NIV "Come near to God and he will come near to you." — James 4:8, NIV Your Evening Prayer Father, Thank You that Your presence not only brings growth in dry places but leads us to peaceful dwellings, rest, and even joy. Our hope for a settled home is found in You alone. Tonight we give You our houses. Not perfect homes, because we are not perfect people, but homes we dedicate to Your Kingdom purposes. Lord, have Your way not only in our hearts but in our homes. Pour out Your Spirit on the dry and unsettled places. Let the tension give way to peace, and the uncertainty give way to trust in You. May every person who walks through our doors experience a glimpse of on ea

Your Daily Bible Verse - How Do You Know You're Growing? (James 3:17)

Today's Bible Verse: "But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere." — James 3:17 James 3:17 points us toward a practical answer: spiritual growth becomes visible in the way we live, respond, and treat others. God's wisdom produces a life marked by peace, humility, mercy, compassion, and sincerity—not simply more knowledge about the Bible. Spiritual maturity isn't measured only by how much Scripture we know, but by how deeply God's truth is shaping our character. As we grow closer to Christ, His wisdom should increasingly influence our words, relationships, decisions, and responses to difficult situations. Want more encouragement throughout your week? Untangling Prayer with Rachel Wojo - The Part of Your Story You Stopped Praying About

Is there a part of your story you've stopped praying about? Maybe you don't doubt that God can do anything. You've just decided this particular thing is too far gone. This week on Untangling Prayer, Rachel sits with a hard question: is it ever too late for God to redeem the chapter you've already given up on? The answer starts in Ephesians 1:7, where Paul roots our redemption in the blood of Christ and the riches of God's grace. That same grace doesn't stop at forgiving your sin. It reaches into the broken places you've written off. Rachel shares the redemption story that makes this real for her and celebrates the launch of her new book. You'll discover: Why we stop praying about the things we've decided are finished What Ephesians 1:7 says about where redemption comes from How to bring a given-up-on part of your story back to God The 26-year answer to prayer God built out of two broken stories Resources Mentioned Praying through Life's Battles: 90 Days to Strengthen Your Faith, available now at battleprayers.com. That's Just What I Needed Podcast - How to Reset Your Week and Care for Your Mind, Body, and Spirit with Heather Brown

Do you ever feel like your week is running you instead of you running your week? I know I do! My friend Heather Brown joins me to talk about simple, practical ways we can care for our minds, bodies, and spirits without adding another overwhelming item to our to-do lists. We talk about creating intentional rhythms, managing chronic stress, protecting what matters most, and letting God help us see where our lives need a reset. Heather also shares some incredibly doable ways to slow down and care for ourselves in the middle of real, busy life. If you're tired of running on empty, this conversation is for you. Remember, I'd love to connect more on Instagram, where you'll find me at @donnaajones. And don’t forget to subscribe so you don’t miss a single episode! Start with God. Ask: Lord, what do You want this season, week, or day to look like? Identify what matters most. Consider your relationship with God, your closest relationships, your physical and mental health, and the specific calling God has placed on your life. Look honestly at your calendar. Do the things taking up your time match the things you say are important? Find the gaps and distractions. Ask where you're wasting time, what may need to be removed, and which habits aren't serving you well in this season. Put your priorities on the calendar. Schedule the important things instead of assuming they'll happen once everything else is done. Reset instead of expecting perfect balance. Some weeks will get crazy. The goal isn't perfection; it's recognizing when you've gotten off track and intentionally resetting. A Simple Stress Reset: Box Breathing Heather also shares a practical breathing exercise you can use in just a few moments: Inhale for 4 → Hold for 4 → Exhale for 4 → Hold for 4 Repeat for a few cycles to intentionally slow your breathing and create a moment of calm. <

The Crosswalk Devotional: A Daily Devotional Chris... - A Kinder Way to Witness

Sharing your faith doesn’t have to mean having the perfect answer to every question about Christianity or knowing exactly what to say. Christian witness is about showing and sharing the love of Jesus with the people around you. But how can you talk about your faith without coming across as judgmental, pushy, or disconnected from where someone is? The Bible calls us to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15), and that starts with the way we live, listen, and treat others. When we approach evangelism with kindness, humility, and genuine love, we create opportunities for meaningful conversations about God and the gospel. We may not see an immediate response, and we may not have every answer, but we can faithfully plant seeds of faith and trust God with the results. A Christ-centered witness isn't about winning an argument—it's about pointing people toward Jesus in a way that reflects His love. Highlights How to share your faith without being judgmental or pushy Why our actions and character can be a powerful Christian witness The importance of speaking biblical truth with love How to share your personal testimony with others Why listening and meeting people where they are matters when witnessing How even a simple conversation can plant a seed of faith Why we can trust God with the results of our witness Want more encouragement throughout your week? Words of Life: Weekly Christian Podcast with Testi... - Helping Kids Navigate School Without Tying Identity to Grades

In this episode, we focus on how parents can support their children academically without making performance feel like identity. It covers practical ways to work with teachers, understand the real reasons behind struggling grades, and encourage independence, especially as kids get older. It also addresses how AI is changing schoolwork and why those conversations need to start early. Key topics Parents often focus on grades and assignments, but the deeper goal is helping kids grow without linking worth to performance. One major theme is resisting the urge to rescue children from struggle, since doing too much can keep them from learning resilience. Technology now gives parents more school visibility than ever through notifications, grade trackers, and teacher posted class guides, but that can also create information overload. The conversation emphasizes that knowing the assignment is not the same as understanding what a child is learning or taking away from it. Your Daily Prayer - A Prayer to Turn to Jesus When You’re Too Tired

Sometimes exhaustion goes so deep that even turning to God feels like more than the body and spirit can manage. Not a crisis of faith, not a decision to walk away — just a weariness so complete that the simplest prayer becomes a reach too far. Those moments carry a particular kind of shame for believers who expected their faith to hold up better under pressure, who pictured leaning on God looking a little more steady and a little less desperate. Psalm 9:10 speaks directly into that shame with a promise that does not require perfect faith to claim: the Lord has never forsaken those who seek Him. Those who know His name, who have placed their trust in Him, who have made it their practice to seek Him, will never be left alone. Not even in the moments when they are too broken to look His way. The years of seeking, knowing, and trusting God do not evaporate in a hard season. They become the foundation that holds even when the person standing on it has nothing left. God is not present because our faith looks impressive. He is present because He loves us, because we love Him, and because we belong to Him. The weak, barely-formed prayer, "Jesus, help me," is enough. And on the days when even that is beyond reach, He is still there. His presence is not contingent on our performance. Child of God, you are sealed with the promise of His presence, His salvation, and His grace, always, in every valley, whether you can feel it or not. If today's prayer speaks to you, I think you will love my latest book, Win Over Worry: Conquer What Shakes You and Soar With the One Who Overcomes. You can find it on Amazon or your favorite online retail site. I hope it blesses you! Today's Bible Verse "Those who know your name trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you." — Psalm 9:10, NIV Ponder Today God's presence does not depend on our faith looking or feeling perfect. He is not there because we showed up strong. He is there because we are His and He loves us — and that does not change based on how our faith performs in the hardest moments. "Jesus, help me" is a complete and sufficient prayer. When exhaustion strips away everything else, the weakest and most honest cry still reaches the One who hears. God does not require eloquence or emotional strength before He responds. The years of seeking God become the foundation that holds in the seasons when you have nothing left. A history of knowing His name, placing trust in Him, and practicing the discipline of turning toward Him does not disappear in a hard season. It carries you even when you cannot carry yourself. Feeling forsaken and being forsaken are not the same thing. Psalm 9:10 is a promise, not a feeling. God has never forsaken those who seek Him — not in their strongest moments, and not in their most depleted ones either. Rest in your weariness without shame. You do not have to pull your faith together before God will show up. He is already there, with His constant care, His continual protection, and His unending, unconditional love — even in the pit. A Prayer for You Today Ever-present God, I praise You that You never leave my side. Even when I struggle to sense Your presence in my deepest pain and suffering, You are there. Even when my faith feels far from perfect or I wonder if I am deserving of Your love and care, You are there. Because I am Yours and You are mine, You will never forsake me. I have chosen to seek You, to know You, and to place my trust in You. So no matter what circumstances surround me, I know You will follow me, love me, and forever bless me. Thank You for the g

About Dr. William Lane Craig: He's a prominent philosopher, theologian, and apologist known for his work in the philosophy of religion, particularly regarding the existence of God and the historical Jesus. He earned his Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Birmingham and has since built a distinguished career in both academic and public circles. The Greg Laurie Show - Ruslan KD: Why the Loudest Generation Is Also the Loneliest

From gang life at age 11 to reaching millions on YouTube — Ruslan KD sits down with Greg Laurie to talk about the long road home. Born in Azerbaijan, ethnically Armenian, and raised by a single mom in San Diego, Ruslan's story starts with a botched break-in, a cop next door, and a Black Baptist church that told an 11-year-old kid God would use him one day. They were right. The Built Different Podcast with Dr. Zach Clinton - Chad Scott: The Adversity Advantage - You Can’t Always Choose What Happens, But You Can Choose Who You Become, Ep. 316

What does it really take to become stronger, not just physically, but mentally, relationally, and spiritually? In this episode, we sit down with Liberty University Director of Athletic Performance for Football, Coach Chad Scott, for a conversation that goes far beyond the weight room. Coach Scott shares what he’s seeing inside Liberty Football as a new season approaches, why their word “Standard” has to become more than a slogan, and what separates talented people from those who actually maximize their potential. We unpack the power of discipline, shared suffering, player-led leadership, and why mastering the fundamentals of sleep, nutrition, hydration, and breathing can matter more than chasing the latest performance hack. But the conversation takes a deeply personal turn as Chad opens up about walking alongside his wife, Beth, through her battle with cancer and what that journey has taught him about strength, surrender, faith, and trusting God when the circumstances you desperately want to change are completely outside of your control. Whether you’re an athlete, leader, spouse, parent, or simply trying to become the person God has called you to be, this conversation will challenge you to raise your standard while redefining what it truly means to be strong. Compared to Who? Body Image for Christian Women - Body Image Issues Aren't Your Thorn —They're Something the Gospel Can Actually Cure

Have you heard it or said it? Maybe your body image issues are "your thorn in the flesh." It sounds comforting, but is it actually true? In this episode, we take a close look at what Paul's thorn in 2 Corinthians 12 actually was — and wasn't — and see how body image issues are different than the situation Paul discusses there. We'll also talk about how recognizing that your body image issues aren't your "thorn in the flesh" may be some of the most hopeful news you get, because then there's a cure for them. And, it's all found in scripture! Key Scripture references: 2 Corinthians 12:7–10 (the thorn in the flesh) Colossians 3:5 ("greed, which is idolatry") Colossians 3:9–10 (put off the old self, put on the new) Romans 6:14 (sin shall not be your master) 1 John 1:9 (confession and cleansing) 2 Corinthians 5:17 (new creation) Discussion questions for listeners / community: Have you ever described your body image struggle as "your thorn"? How did that framing shape whether you expected it to change? Try praying both prayers from this episode — the confession prayer and the contentment prayer. Which one actually named what's true for you? What would it look like this week to bring one specific piece of body-image idolatry into the light through honest confession? Timestamped Guide to Episode 00:00 Exploring body image and faith 03:38 Addressing body image issues 09:41 Biblical thorns and grace 12:21 Idols in Modern Christian Culture 16:32 Understanding body image issues 19:00 Inviting women to join workshop 22:16 Admitting struggles and seeking help 27:39 Choosing the right prayer 28:45 Dealing with aging and grace A note: This episode distinguishes disordered body worship (idolatry) from genuine physical affliction (illness, disability, medical conditions). Listeners walking through the latter should be pointed toward lament and grace, not confession — this episode is specifically addressing the worship-pattern many of us have around appearance and worth. The Bible Explained with Jenn Kokal - 1 Peter 1:17-25 - The Precious Blood of Jesus

As we continue through the book of 1 Peter, we're reminded that our lives on this earth are temporary, and our hope should be in something eternal: A powerful reminder that as Christians, we are called to live on this earth as foreigners, not as our permanent home. We know that there is something better waiting for us in eternity, and that's why we should be living in reverent fear, not placing our hope in this world. The significance of Jesus' sacrifice, which is the most important thing in Scripture. Jesus' blood is precious - He was foreknown before the foundation of the world to take on the burden of redeeming humanity. A discussion of the emotional suffering Jesus experienced on the cross, which is something we can't fully understand. Love is more than just an action; it's an attitude that starts in the heart. As we wrap up this episode, Jenn invites us to consider how we can store up our treasures in heaven instead of on earth. We're encouraged to read through the book of Proverbs, which offers a balance of earthly achievement and heavenly perspective. Join us as we continue exploring the book of 1 Peter and discover how to live a life that's focused on eternity. Related Episode: Mark 15:21-37 (From Christ) - Jesus, The Sin Sacrifice Hey!
