Matt Sieger spent years researching the 1978 San Francisco Giants, a team that nobody remembers winning anything but everybody in the city that year remembers. They increased their attendance by one million fans in a single season. They had nine to ten born-again Christians on a 25-man roster. They started thanking God in post-game interviews. And then the Dodgers overtook them in mid-August, the wins stopped, and the San Francisco media turned on them in a way that followed some of those players for the rest of their careers. Your Daily Prayer - A Prayer for Peace-Filled Focus
A garbage disposal that stopped working, then started again, then stopped again — two days of fussing with the fuse, and finally the discovery that the whole unit was rusted out and dripping from the bottom. In the grand scheme of things, a kitchen appliance. And yet the mind rushes immediately to all the questions: how much will this cost, why now, what a mess on top of an already full week. One broken thing, and peace starts to leak out right alongside the water. Romans 8:5-6 names what is happening in those moments with precision: the mind governed by the flesh is fixed on what the flesh desires — the problem in front of it, the broken circumstances, the unexpected expense. But the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. Paul’s point comes down to mindset, and his news is remarkably good: we get to choose where we set our minds. We can have the same sink, the same leak, the same full schedule — and two different mindsets produce two entirely different experiences. The flesh locks our eyes on the broken thing. The Spirit lifts them to Christ, who sees the trouble as temporary and uses the moment to draw us into dependence on Him. The enemy knows this, which is why he works so hard to capture our focus with exactly the kind of small, nagging problems that are just big enough to hold our attention and just persistent enough to drain our peace. But the same Spirit who raised Jesus from the grave lives in us. Peace does not live under the kitchen sink. It lives in Jesus — and it thrives when we set our minds on Him. The flesh keeps our eyes locked on circumstances. The Spirit lifts them to Christ. Same situation, different mindset, completely different experience. We are privileged to choose where we set our minds — and that is remarkably good news. Paul does not present mindset as something that happens to us. He presents it as a daily, active choice available to every believer through the power of the Spirit. The enemy would love for small, persistent problems to capture your attention. Not every battle is dramatic. Sometimes the attack is a broken appliance, an unexpected bill, or one frustrating thing on top of an already full week. The goal is the same — to move your focus off Christ and onto the problem. The mind fixed on problems is the mind void of peace. Dwelling on circumstances leads almost always to discouragement, then deflation, then defeat. Setting the mind on Christ means there is always hope available, regardless of what the circumstances look like. Your peace does not live in your circumstances — it lives in Jesus. The garbage disposal gets replaced. The schedule stays full. But peace that depends on external things is temporary. Peace rooted in Christ is available in every season, broken things and all. We inherit a lot from our parents: our appearance, our personalities, and sometimes even our faith. But eventually, each of us has to wrestle with what we believe and discover a faith of our own. Following Jesus doesn’t mean pretending to have every answer. It means being willing to ask honest questions, bring our doubts to God, study Scripture, and seek wisdom from people we trust. God isn’t afraid of our questions, and genuine faith isn’t built on pretending. It’s built on knowing Jesus personally. The Walk: Real Stories of Faith - Red Rocks Worship: Why Worship Leaders Leave Too Soon
Tyler Roberts has been at Red Rocks Church for sixteen years, which in worship ministry terms makes him an elder statesman. He says so himself: everything looks the same, but everybody keeps getting younger, which can only mean one thing. Red Rocks started in 2005 with a plain goal, to be a youth group for adults, and a tagline they still use: make heaven more crowded. Tyler's arrival in 2010 tells you what the early days felt like. The church met in a rented red barn at the back of a theme park, a quarter-mile walk from the parking lot, with a wedding chapel on one side and a haunted house on the other. He auditioned on Halloween, singing "Our God," with a miniature train going by outside and a man in a Jason mask running around with a chainsaw while girls screamed. That was a normal Sunday. The origin of Red Rocks Worship is less glamorous than people assume, and better for it. When the church went multi-site around 2011, there were suddenly two campuses, two worship teams, and nobody really in charge. Tyler is candid that they handled it badly at first. The fix was a question: what if we prayed together and wrote songs together? They started meeting Fridays at 8:30, praying for half an hour, then writing, on the theory that a song all of them liked could be sung at both campuses. The songs were mostly not good, he says, and he advises against going back to listen. What happened next was an accident. Around 2013 the staff wanted to record a Sunday-after-Christmas special called Holiday Hangover so nobody had to come in that weekend. Leadership asked whether the worship team had any songs, didn't much care what they were, and recorded them. Weeks before it aired, someone asked whether they could put it on iTunes. For one day only, the Rooftop EP was the number one Christian and gospel EP there, because the whole church downloaded it. Then those songs came back around on the weekend and the church already knew them. They had become the congregation's songs. Tyler's picture of a Red Rocks Sunday is worth the episode for worship pastors. They like to throw good parties, and they describe themselves as a front porch for prodigals, taking the father in the parable literally: he threw a party the moment the son came home. So song one is loud and full of energy, songs two and three go upward into high praise, the message lands, the response time leans into songs like "The Lord Is With Me," and then they send people out. We're not here to just play church and have a big audience, he says. We're an army. He walks through the multi-site structure in useful detail. Every campus has a worship pastor who sits on the campus staff, reports to the campus pastor, and dotted-lines to central. Those pastors own resourcing, developing, recruiting and pastoring their teams; central supplies the set lists, the Ableton sessions and the creative. Brussels, now ten years old, has grown into its own thing. He's honest that they've failed more than they've gotten it right, and have tried to fail forward. On set lists, the rule is at least fifty percent Red Rocks songs, sometimes seventy-five, sometimes all of it. They write to fill gaps in their own church, and right now the gap is song ones. When they bring in an outside song, it usually comes out of the message. Then Kurtis asks the question every church that releases music wants answered: why do your people actually sing your songs? Tyler refuses to give a formula, and says plainly that what the Lord chooses to breathe on is what He chooses to breathe on. But he does explain "The Lord Is With Me." Pastor Shawn Johnson learned a few years ago that he has a rare form of Parkinson's disease, and asked the team for a song to go alongside a book he was writing about it, something people could anchor to in the hardest season of their lives. They wrote it, the church preached a series on it, and suddenly everyone's story was connected to one anthem. Tyler

Dennis Prager takes on a controversial question about male attraction and asks whether women really want men to stop noticing them “that way.” Dennis argues that attraction between men and women is natural and, when expressed respectfully, can be a healthy part of human relationships. At the same time, he draws an important distinction between noticing a woman’s attractiveness and staring, leering, or behaving in a way that makes her uncomfortable. Dennis takes calls from men and women with very different perspectives. Some women say they enjoy being noticed and would actually miss that attention, while others find prolonged or overt attention uncomfortable. Dennis explores why these reactions differ and why he believes normal attraction should not automatically be treated as something shameful or inappropriate. The conversation also turns to dating and the mistakes men make when expressing attraction. Dennis explains why there is a difference between letting a woman know you find her attractive and making her feel as though she is being judged solely on her appearance. He argues that understanding male sexual nature, while also developing the character and restraint to handle it appropriately, is essential to healthy relationships between men and women. The Bible Explained with Jenn Kokal - Job 5 - Twisted Truths and Terrible Comfort
In this episode of The Bible Explained, Jenn continues through Eliphaz's speech in Job 5 and shows how true statements about God can become dangerous when they're misapplied to someone who is suffering: Eliphaz tells Job not to bother appealing to the holy ones. Is that really true? Does God answer people who bring Him their questions? Eliphaz claims he has seen the foolish crushed in the city gate and implies Job brought his suffering on himself. When we see somebody suffering, can we automatically assume they did something wrong? A fallen world, the defeat of Satan's false arguments, an example for future believers, and a war on the prosperity gospel. Jenn shares reasons God allowed Job to suffer that had nothing to do with sin. Paul actually quotes Eliphaz in 1 Corinthians 3. Some of the best lies out there are twisted truths, or truths that are misapplied. "Happy is the man whom God corrects" is a crazy thing to say to a man mourning in ashes. Discipline is never fun when it happens, but we shouldn't despise it. Evening Scripture Matthew, Chapter 16 One day the Pharisees and Sadducees came to test Jesus, demanding that he show them a miraculous sign from heaven to prove his authority. He replied, “You know the saying, ‘Red sky at night means fair weather tomorrow; red sky in the morning means foul weather all day.’ You know how to interpret the weather signs in the sky, but you don’t know how to interpret the signs of the times! Only an evil, adulterous generation would demand a miraculous sign, but the only sign I will give them is the sign of the prophet Jonah.” Then Jesus left them and went away. Later, after they crossed to the other side of the lake, the disciples discovered they had forgotten to bring any bread. “Watch out!” Jesus warned them. “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” At this they began to argue with each other because they hadn’t brought any bread. Jesus knew what they were saying, so he said, “You have so little faith! Why are you arguing with each other about having no bread? Don’t you understand even yet? Don’t you remember the 5,000 I fed with five loaves, and the baskets of leftovers you picked up? Or the 4,000 I fed with seven loaves, and the large baskets of leftovers you picked up? Why can’t you understand that I’m not talking about bread? So again, I say, ‘Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.’” Then at last they understood that he wasn’t speaking about the yeast in bread, but about the deceptive teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees. When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” “Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.” Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being. Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it. And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.” Then he sternly warned the disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah. From then on Jesus began to tell his disciples plainly that it was necessary for him to go to Jerusalem, and that he would suffer many terrible things at the hands of the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He would be killed, but on the third day he would be raised from the dead. But Peter took him aside and began to reprimand him for saying such things. “Heaven forbid, Lord,” he said. “This will never happen to you!” Jesus turned to Peter and said, “Get away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.” Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul? For the Son of Man will come with his angels in the glory of his Father and will judge all people according to their deeds. And I tell you the truth, some standing here right now will not die before they see the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom.” Evening Reflection I like to think I trust God with my life. Your Nightly Prayer: Evening Prayers for Christian... - Resting in God's Unchanging Character
The only constant in life is change. It is an ancient observation and a modern reality. The world shifts, develops, decays. Bodies wear out. Relationships fracture. Crises arrive without warning. Even the things we pour our energy into maintaining will eventually break down. Scientists call it entropy, the natural tendency of all things toward disorder. It can lead us, honestly, toward a kind of despair. Why try so hard when it will all break down anyway? Hebrews 13:8 answers that question not with a strategy but with a Person. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. The theological word for this is immutable, unchangeable. Everything around us is subject to entropy, but God is not. His love does not wane. His faithfulness does not fade. His power does not diminish. His truth does not shift with the cultural moment or the political climate or the passage of time. And here is what makes this more than an abstract comfort: when the One who is unchangeable enters the chaos and disorder of our world, things transform. He does not simply observe the entropy from a safe distance. He engages it. He resurrects. He heals. He reconciles and redeems. The same marks of heaven coming to earth that we see in the Gospels are still the work He is doing now, in our lives, in our situations, in the broken and worn-out places we bring to Him. We can count on Jesus. Not in the vague way we sometimes hope for things that might come through. We can actually count on Him, stake our lives on Him, rest in Him, because He has never once been anything other than what He has always been. When the world feels like it is shifting under our feet, He is the fixed point. The anchor that holds. The same yesterday, today, and forever. Ponder Tonight The immutability of God is not simply a theological concept. It is deeply practical comfort for anyone who has been let down by the things or people they thought they could count on. When the One who never changes engages the entropy and disorder of our world, transformation follows. That is the pattern of the Gospels, and it is still the pattern of His work in our lives today. Reframing our difficulties through the lens of eternity does not minimize their reality. It places them within a larger story that has an already-secured ending, one of full restoration and renewal. Everything we trust in this life, apart from God, is subject to change and loss. That is not pessimism. It is the honest starting point for learning to anchor our hope in the only One who will never disappoint it. Tonight’s Scripture “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” — Hebrews 13:8, NIV Your Evening Prayer Heavenly Father, Thank You that while everything around us changes, You stay forever faithful. Fix our hearts on Jesus, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever. When chaos, decay, and disappointment surround us, anchor us in the hope of Your immutable love and truth. Renew and restore what sin has broken. Transform our lives by Your unwavering power. Help us trust Your promises and remember Your redeeming work in death and resurrection, all until Christ comes back to make all things new. In Jesus’ name, Amen. Want More?
