Today · length unknownA Word With You - Life In Bite-Size Chunks - #10372
I picked up a habit while going out to eat with my young children years ago. It’s a habit I really don’t need to do any more, but I got in the habit of cutting their meat for them. Now, if you’re a parent, you know that you get that old knife out before you start on your own dinner and you cut theirs into bite-size chunks. The problem is that I go out to lunch with a lot of businessmen, too, and I kind of have this reflex to cut their meat. But I’ve never found they really appreciated that. And, you know, the principle of bite-size chunks…well, that’s not a bad one. I mean, the best way to tackle a big piece is in little chunks that you can handle. I’m Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about “Life In Bite-Size Chunks.” A number of years ago, my wife was diagnosed as having hepatitis. At the time we thought, “Well, how long is she going to be in bed?” We knew that it might be for six weeks, the doctor said. It turned out to be nine months of Mom being out of commission; almost totally leveled. Well, as today, I had a pretty crazy, busy lifestyle and our kids had very hectic lifestyles and we're used to a very strong and competent mother holding it all together. I thought, “How in the world are we going to ever do six weeks?” Good thing I didn’t know then it was going to be nine months. I told my wife she was violating the 11th commandment. You know what that is: mothers, thou shall not get sick. But I’ll tell you how we made it? By bite-size chunks. Deuteronomy 33:25 - it’s our word for today from the Word of God, and maybe one you need right now. It became my life preserver. It says this: “Your strength will equal your days.” You could remember that one you couldn’t you? “Your strength will equal your days.” Notice it doesn’t say, “Your strength will equal your years, or your months, or your weeks” — days. A good friend of ours came up to me after my wife had been down for six weeks. And knowing how interdependent we are, she said, “Ron, how in the world have you handled six weeks with your wife sick?” I said, “Joanne, we haven’t. We haven’t handled six weeks. We’ve handled 42 days.” And that was the story. Well, right now, God may have put in front of you a big assignment; an overwhelming assignment. A long haul is ahead of you. It could be a health problem, maybe a financial shortfall, maybe it’s work that needs to be done in your family. Or you could be in an extended time of pressure and stress right now. Maybe you’ve even lost someone very close to you, and you’re looking and saying, “How am I ever going to get through this? It’s just…it’s so huge!” I’ll tell you, if you try to handle all that might happen or could happen, or even will happen, you’re going to stagger under the load. But if you wake up each morning and say, “This is the day the Lord has made; not the day the sickness has made, or the boss has made, or the financial problems have made, or the weather has made, or the bank has made. “This is the day the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.” And take it as a 24-hour bite-size chunk and you’re going to be able to handle it. Don’t try to take on the load of weeks, and months, and days. God promises that you’ll have what you need for this 24-hour piece of your life. So, He’ll give you what you need to handle it today. If you’re running ahead and worrying about the next day, and the next week, and the next month, or the next year, you’re running ahead of your supply lines. But you’ll have what you need today. He promised. Would you relax! You’re all stressed out because you’re trying to eat the whole meal all at once. Why don’t you take it in bite-size chunks?

Today · 4 minKeys for Kids - daily devotions and Bible stories ... - Uncle Bill’s Sheep
Read: John 21:15-17 “Why do we have to do this?” Grayson pinched his nose as he eyed his uncle’s barn. “We’re helping out for a few days,” Mom said. “Come on, the sheep are waiting.” Grayson dragged his feet as they walked over to the barn. Mom led the way to a pen of dirty, wooly sheep. She held out a handful of dry food, and all the animals raced over to her. “You’re going to let them eat off your hand?” Grayson made a face. Mom giggled as one of the sheep ran its thick tongue over her hand. “It’s actually fun.” She glanced back at Grayson. “If you don’t want to feed them, you can get them water. We need to take care of them to help your uncle while he’s recovering from surgery.” “Uncle Bill’s never done anything for us,” Grayson muttered as he turned away. Grayson filled a bucket with water and carried it to the sheep’s pen. He tried to pour it carefully into their trough, but it still splashed, and he let out a scream as dirty water got on his legs. “You can shower when we get home,” Mom said. She smiled as one of the sheep stuck its nose in the trough. “Did you know that Jesus asked Peter three times if he loved Him, all in a row?” Grayson’s forehead wrinkled. Why was his mom suddenly bringing up a Bible story? “Each time Peter said that he did, Jesus told him to care for His sheep.” “Jesus had sheep?” Grayson stared at his mom. “He didn’t mean actual sheep,” Mom said. “He meant people that He died on the cross to save. People like me and you. People like your uncle Bill.” Grayson sighed. “So by caring for Uncle Bill’s sheep, we’re caring for Jesus’s sheep too?” Mom nodded. “Caring for Uncle Bill’s sheep shows that we love him, and it shows that we love Jesus too. He loves Uncle Bill and wants us to show him His love by helping him.” Grayson looked at the dirty animals before reaching for his mom’s bucket of feed. “If this shows that I love Jesus, okay.” He grabbed a handful of food. When he held it out and the sheep moved from his mom to him, he couldn’t help but smile. –Emily Acker How about you? How often do you do something for someone simply because you want to show them God’s love? Jesus says that when we care for others and show them the same kind of love He has shown us, we’re doing those things for Him (Matthew 25:31-40). Is there someone who you could do something for today to cheer them up and show them God’s love? Today’s key verse: By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. John 13:35 (NIV) Today’s key thought: Show love by caring for others

Today · 6 minYour Daily Prayer - A Prayer for Your Family’s New School Year
The crisp air of fall arrives, and with it a new school year — new classrooms, new teachers, new schedules, and for many children, new influences that may challenge what they have been taught at home. Parents do well to prepare the outside: the backpacks, the supplies, the right clothes. But preparing the heart is the work that matters most, and it is the work that requires prayer more than planning. Daniel is one of Scripture’s most powerful examples of a young person whose identity remained firmly rooted even when everything around him changed. Taken into Babylon, given a new name, surrounded by foreign ideology and competing values, Daniel resolved from the beginning that he would not defile himself. His identity was not in his name or his circumstances. It was in who he belonged to. That is precisely what we need our children to know as they walk into classrooms and hallways and conversations we will never hear — that they know who they are, whose they are, and have the courage to live faithfully wherever God places them. We cannot sit beside them in every moment of temptation or confusion. But we can pray boldly. Praying for protection, for discernment, for the ability to recognize God’s voice among all the competing voices, for friendships that strengthen rather than weaken their faith, and for homes so filled with God’s presence that the absence of it is noticeable — this is the preparation that goes with them when we cannot. Today's Bible Verse “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” — Proverbs 22:6, KJV Ponder Today Our children will encounter Babylon — ideas, influences, and values that conflict with their faith. Like Daniel, they need to know before they arrive that their identity is not in their surroundings or what others call them. It is in who they belong to. Bold prayers over our children are one of the most powerful things we can do for them. We cannot be present in every hallway conversation or moment of temptation. Prayer is how we continue to protect and cover them when we are not there. Teach your children to bring their questions home. One of the most important things a parent can do is create the kind of home and relationship where children feel safe bringing their doubts, confusion, and encounters with anti-biblical ideas for open conversation rather than silent wrestling. Pray that your children will be a light wherever they go. The goal is not only protection from outside influence — it is that they would be so rooted in truth that they become a source of it for the peers around them. A Prayer for You Today Lord, You know everything my children will encounter in this new school year — the people they will meet, the things they will learn, and the influences they will face. I pray for complete protection over them and that they will feel Your presence in every classroom, setting, and conversation. Help them recognize Your voice among competing voices and give them the courage to remain faithful when I am not there to guide them. I pray that as they encounter anti-biblical ideas, they will recognize them and bring their questions home so we can talk through them together. Help me fill our home with truth and Your presence. I pray my children will be a light wherever they go and that their peers are drawn to that light and ultimately to Your truth. Thank You for the privilege of raising them. Give me the boldness to do it well. In Your precious name, Amen. Want More? This week, we're excited to introduce The Good Word, a new way to receive weekly biblical wisdom and encourag

Yesterday · length unknownAnswers with Ken Ham - Every, All, and Everything
This is Ken Ham, on a mission to call the church back to the authority of God’s Word. Genesis says Noah’s flood covered all the high hills and destroyed every land-dwelling creature not on the Ark. So why do some people believe it was just a local flood? It’s because they’ve already compromised on the age of the earth. You see, when you reinterpret Genesis to add in millions of years, you’ve got a big problem with the flood. The supposed long ages come from the rock layers. But, if there was a global flood, those rock layers can’t be old. So not only do you have to reinterpret the days in Genesis, now you’ve got to change the flood too. Instead of changing God’s Word, you know what we need to do? We need to trust it from the beginning. Dig Deeper Layers of Sedimentary Rock Deposited by Global Flood Transcontinental Rock Layers

How do you know if your life is actually successful? It’s easy to measure success by accomplishments, money, recognition, or how far you’ve gotten compared to everyone else. But those things can disappear just as quickly as they arrive. Noah’s story points to a different measure of success: becoming who God designed you to be, doing what He’s called you to do, and continuing to walk with Him one step at a time.
