The main nerdling of the movie is Mitch Taylor (Gabriel Jarret), a lucky little bow-tie stereotype who wins a high school talent show/scholarship to get sent to somewhere “smart” like Caltech, only let’s name it…Pacific Tech. BOOM! Stage set. God of Sexing Science, Val Kilmer, plays Lord Giga-Chad-Nerdling-Megatron, Chris Knight, a senior at PTech. While Mitchy boy is the main lead, we all know this movie is really A Chronicle on the Story of the Ballad~Saga through the Atmosphere of ValChris Kill-Knight, Eternal Huntsman of Classroom Tang.The Sigma Alpha-Weeb royalty of PTec (and Kent), piddling through their studies, are creating cable satellite with unlimited signal. And by signal I mean, Space Lasers. So what will they do with all that power? Can those lasers pop a bottle cap or three and chill the case? Asking the important questions here. For a friend.     Rey and the boys present their next entry of their “weird” science miniseries with the star studded (plus a lesser Baldwin) 1990 film “Flatliners”. Following Nelson’s (Kiefer Sutherland) lead/behest, four other medical students (though one is billed as a Doctor in the cast…) set out to explore near death experiences to discover if there is indeed an afterlife. Four of the five students are voluntarily murdered and revived with success until surreal visions from their personal pasts begin to terrorize their minds. That’s one hell of a pickle to be in. How are Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, Oliver Platt, and William Baldwin going to get through this? Forgiveness? Loss? Death?     Ep. 86: Short Circuit (Who is Johnny?)

    Welcome back, listeners, to our most recent addition to our series on weird/bizarre science films. This time around, we discuss one of the absolute best films of the 1980s--"Short Circuit". This film follows the path of Number 5, the last in a series of prototype robots designed for the military by Nova Robotics Corporation after being struck by lightning while attached to a generator. In this accident, Number 5 develops sentience and wanders away from the facility. Enter animal lover and food truck operator Stephanie (Ally Sheedy), who meets 5 and seems to handle it pretty well–considering that she thinks it’s an alien from outer space. Nope, 5 is just your run-of-the-mill military industrial-complex Warbot. But 5 is alive, and Stephanie does everything she can to protect her new friend as Nova corp does their best to find and disassemble this "malfunctioning" robot. Newton Crosby (Steve Guttenberg) , 5's creator, is also in the mix with his sidekick Ben as he tries to safely recover Number 5.     Ep. 85: Weird Science (Floppy Disk Frankenstein)

    We're back, baby! After our first foray into timey-wimey adventures, we decided to keep close to that theme with a series of weird science films! Kicking off our list is "Weird Science" where we are introduced to *checks off list* geeks/nerds/dweebs/dorks/outcasts named Wyatt (Ilan Mitchell-Smith) and Gary (Anthony Michael Hall) who face constant bullying and embarrassment from their peers. These two losers decide to create a woman with Wyatt’s “high-tech computer hacking skills” (sure buddy) and to their surprise–actually succeed. "Your mother was the lightning!" The end result is Lisa (Kelly Lebrock), an 80’s trickster-vixen with godlike powers, and she is the keymaster to levels of coolness and fear their nerdly hearts would never have dreamt possible (they kinda are pretty lame). Almost literally anything can happen. Will Lisa beat up Gary’s dad? Is Wyatt’s bro a piece of crapola on the inside as well as the outside? Does the great Robert Downey Jr. (yep he’s there) stand a snowball’s chance in hell of grooving on omega-hottie Lisa?     Cinekuest Presents: Groundhog Day aka Why Being a Doosh Works Out in the End So here we present to you one of those that there super classy-classical-type comedy-almost-horror masterpieces of the early ’90s. Phil Connors (Bill Murray) is a weatherman from Pittsburg who really loves the smell of his own farts and is due to be scouted for a better station anytime now. Until then, he has to go hang out with the “hicks” at the Punxsutawney Groundhog's Day Celebration for the fourth year in a row. Poor baby gets cranky without his juice box. After a half-assed attempt to report his boredom, “Ready in 3….2….*middle finger*...1…”, Phil ends his day stuck in town from some freak weather, and gets up the next day. He has the same coffee, the same conversations, the same celebration...the same day. And then...again. The same day. Over and over. What is a guy to do with eternity? Does the party ever end? No hangovers, no work, no bills, no problems...sounds great...right? Come chill with Daniel, Rey, and Roland as we sus out the details.

It brings happiness, success, and...yeah so what happens when none of that crap works out? Enter the lives of Adam, Nick, and Lou, three (+1) absolute losers played by John Cusack, Craig Robinson, Rob Corddry (and Clark Duke as the +1). They all seem like cool people. What the hell happened? After a perfectly-timed not-a-suicide-attempt brings the buddies back together, a plan is hatched to get shit-faced at their old stomping grounds. Back in the 80's when they were cool, when they had plans, when erectile dysfunction was just a phrase that got you called a nerd...there was...Kodiak Valley Ski Resort...the land of windbreaker jackets, bigass hair, Motley Crue...oh and definitely not aids. Too bad the place is a shithole now. So three (+1) guys pile into a gross hot tub and somehow fail upwards into a time machine that sends them back to the best time of their lives. Or so we think.     Cinekuest Presents: Donnie Darko aka the Pre-Regrettening Part Wtf (Frank the Furry Guru) So what do you get when you make an indie film sandwich with an itty bitty slice of sci-fi salami? Whatever this is. Some coming-of-age timey wimey confusion aside, Donnie Darko is some bland-ass teenager farting through suburban hell. After a jet engine crashes into his room, (yes...why not) Donnie’s life gets a little...fuckin’ bananas. Don Don is soon possessed/influenced by the spirit/hallucination/projection from the future--Frank the Furry Guru, learns the world will end in 28 days, gets superpowers, oh and learns about time travel from Grandma Death. We’re blursed with iconical indie award-ling dialog such as, “Every living creature on Earth dies alone.” Such profoundery. Listen in as Rey, Roland, and Daniel try to make sense of what all the hububbery is about.
