Have you ever been told to "just face your fears" or "regulate your nervous system," only to feel more dysregulated and more like a failure when it didn't work? I spent 15 years in the trenches of panic disorder and agoraphobia, and I heard it all. 249: Why Agoraphobia & Panic Disorder Isn’t Actually About Places

If you feel like you can’t go into grocery stores, drive on the highway, or sit in a restaurant without spiraling, you probably think those places are the problem. For years, I was convinced that traffic was my enemy and being far from home was "dangerous." But in this episode, I’m sharing the realization that changed everything for me: Panic disorder and agoraphobia aren't actually about places, they are about the fear of fear. I’m diving deep into why our brains create these false associations and how we can start to break the cycle of avoidance. If your world has felt like it's shrinking, this episode is for you. 249: What Nervous System Regulation Actually Means (And What Everyone Gets Wrong) with Sarah Levy

Are you doing nervous system regulation wrong or have you just been sold the wrong version of it? I sat down with somatic therapist and nervous system regulation coach Sarah Levy to finally break this down in a way that actually makes sense. We're talking about what regulation really means, why the goal was never to feel calm all the time, and why so many people feel like they're failing at this work even when they're trying so hard. We also get into the somatic side of things — what it looks like to reconnect with your body when body sensations feel scary, why your favorite grounding tools might not be working, and the one place Sarah always recommends starting when everything else feels like too much. This one is practical, validating, and so incredibly needed. 247: Mistakes I Made in Anxiety Recovery So You Don’t Have To

Have you ever felt like you’re working harder at recovery than anyone else, yet you’re still not getting anywhere? In this episode, I’m pulling back the curtain on the mistakes I made during my own journey. For a long time, I thought that if I just "tried harder," I’d get better faster. But I eventually learned that anxiety recovery isn't about effort—it’s about the approach. I’m sharing these pitfalls today so you can stop blaming yourself and start finding a clearer, more compassionate path forward. 246: The Perfectionism Cycle: Why Your "Hustle" Leads to Burnout with Shailyn Waites

Do you ever feel like you’re working at 110% capacity, yet you still end your day feeling like a failure because you didn't check every single box on your list? I know that feeling of being "stuck in the do" all too well. It’s a relentless cycle where we try to out-perform our insecurities, only to end up emotionally and physically exhausted. In this episode, I sit down with Shailyn Waites to deconstruct the Perfectionism-Shame-Burnout Cycle. Shai explains that perfectionism is often a defense mechanism—a way to gain control when we feel unsafe or unworthy. Whether you’re a retired athlete, a corporate climber, or someone navigating the high-pressure world of anxiety recovery, this conversation will help you understand why "trying harder" is usually the thing keeping you stuck. 245: Bridges, Traffic, and Left Turns: Why Driving Anxiety Isn’t Actually About Driving (And How to Fix It)

Have you ever found yourself taking a 20-minute detour just to avoid a single bridge, or white-knuckling the steering wheel at a red light, convinced you won’t "make it" until it turns green? I spent years in that exact cycle. Living in Maine, I was surrounded by highway exits that were only two miles apart—yet even those two minutes felt like absolute torture. I would obsessively tell myself, "I just need to make it to the next exit," only to pass it and start the mental spiral all over again. If you’ve been avoiding certain routes, mapping out every pull-over spot, or needing a "safe person" in the car just to get to the store, this conversation is for you. In this episode, I’m pulling back the curtain on why driving feels so life-limiting right now. Spoiler alert: It’s not actually about your ability to drive. It’s about the fear of being stuck, trapped, and unable to handle the anxiety if it shows up. Whether you struggle with highways, planes, or trains, the core mechanics are the same, and once you understand them, you can start taking the healthy steps to get your freedom back. 244: Recovered & Rambling: I'm Back (Sort Of): Shannon's Birth Story & Postpartum Update

How is he a month old already?! I genuinely don't know. It has been over a month since I've sat down at this mic, and even longer since I've sat down with Brittany, and in this episode we're finally catching up on everything, my labor and delivery with Colin, the scary shoulder dystocia moment that I will genuinely never get out of my head, and what this last month of postpartum has actually been like. I get into how different this whole experience has felt going from one kid to two versus the sheer terror of going from zero to one. We talk about breastfeeding and oversupply (again) and sleep deprivation and the very real challenge of trying to take care of a newborn while also making sure Amelia doesn't feel like she got completely deprioritized. I also get honest about the boredom of these early newborn weeks, the identity shift, and how even a solid relationship gets tested when a baby enters the picture. And through basically all of it, I keep coming back to the same thing I talk about in my own recovery and with so many of you: control. What I can't control, what I don't need to control, and just how much more peaceful it is when I actually let that go. This one's a ramble in the best way. Grab your coffee, or your baby carrier, and let's catch up. Also in this episode: an update on my coaching community and Panic to Peace, which is opening again in a couple of months! Just a little reminder, even though I've been quieter on social, I'm still so here for you in all the ways that matter. 243: Why You Can’t Ask for Help: Hyper-Independence with Kelsey Wood

Do you pride yourself on being the capable one? The one who handles the house, the kids, and the career without ever asking for a hand? For a long time, I wore my independence like a badge of honor. But as I’ve learned through my own journey and therapy, there is a big difference between being independent and being hyper-independent. In today’s episode, I’m joined by therapist Kelsey Wood. Kelsey specializes in childhood trauma and works specifically with women who feel like they have to do it all on their own. We’re digging into the "Big V" word—vulnerability—and why, for so many of us, letting people in feels physically unsafe. If you are exhausted, burnt out, and tired of being "the strong one," this episode is for you. 242: When Anxiety Robs You: Navigating Grief, Anger, and the "Small Life" Trap

Have you ever looked at your life and wondered, "How did things get so small?" I know that feeling all too well. I know the sting of looking at the calendar and seeing all the weddings, vacations, and job opportunities you’ve said "no" to. It feels like anxiety hasn't just been a struggle; it feels like it has robbed you. Robbed you of years, of confidence, and of the version of yourself that used to feel so free. In this episode, we’re talking about something that doesn't get nearly enough space in the recovery conversation: Grief. We’re diving into the sadness, the anger, and the "un-fairness" of it all. But more importantly, I’m sharing why this grief is actually a sign of how much you care—and how you can start moving forward without leaving yourself behind. 241: Why Do I Struggle with Anxiety? A Look at 3 Major Contributors with Debbie Missud

Have you ever sat there analyzing your own brain, wondering, "Why is this happening to me? Why does my anxiety feel so much more intense than everyone else's?" I know that spiral all too well. It’s easy to feel like you’re just "broken" or genetically "screwed," but the truth is usually much more complex—and much more compassionate—than that. In today’s episode, I’m joined by therapist Debbie Missud to talk about the biopsychosocial factors that actually contribute to anxiety. We aren't here to put you in a box or give you a label. We’re here to help you understand your origins so you can stop the self-blame and start responding to your body in a way that actually helps. 239: How Much Does Your Mindset Actually Matter in Anxiety Recovery?

Have you ever felt like your brain is just fundamentally "broken "and like everyone else can recover from anxiety, but you’re the one glitch in the system? I’ve been there. For over a decade, my mindset was absolute garbage. I didn't just have anxiety; I believed I was anxiety. I thought I was born this way, doomed by genetics, and that recovery simply wasn’t an option for me. In this episode, we’re diving into the messy, often frustrating topic of mindset. We see two extremes online: one side tells you to "just think positive" (which feels dismissive and infuriating), and the other says mindset doesn't matter because it's purely a nervous system issue. I don't agree with either. Mindset isn't a magical cure, you can't logic your way out of a panic attack, but it is the absolute gatekeeper of your recovery. It determines whether you get back up after a setback or if you stay stuck in the "square one" trap. 238: 30 Years of Panic and Agoraphobia — Former P2P student Lauri's Story of Finally Finding Her Way Out

What does it actually look like to spend 30 years hiding panic disorder and agoraphobia from everyone around you and then finally decide you're done? In this episode, I sit down with Lauri, a former Panic to Peace student and current community member, for one of the most honest and moving recovery conversations yet. Lauri's story started with a panic attack at a client dinner that she didn't even recognize as a panic attack. What followed was three decades of a world that kept getting smaller... avoided highways, relying on safe people, safety behaviors, and a level of shame so deep she hid it from the colleagues she worked alongside for 20 years. Lauri opens up about what it felt like to hit her lowest point, why she stayed stuck for so long, and what finally shifted when she found a community of people who actually understood. She talks about her three C's of healing, the small steps that led to big ones, and what it felt like to take a five-day trip and think... I'm finally living again. 231: The Overlap Between ADHD, Autism, and Panic Attacks: Healing Through Art with Demi Dawkins

What if the "internal noise" you’ve been trying to silence isn’t a flaw, but a sign that your brain is simply wired differently? In this episode, I'm joined by artist Demi Dawkins for a vulnerable and eye-opening conversation about the intersection of neurodivergence and mental health. Demi shares her experience living with AuDHD (the overlap of Autism and ADHD) and how years of unexplained panic attacks and sensory overwhelm finally made sense once she understood her unique brain. If you’ve ever felt like your brain moves too fast, feels too "loud," or that traditional "calming" techniques like meditation just don't cut it, this episode is a permission slip to find your own path to peace. Demi explains how she traded the struggle of trying to be "normal" for the restorative power of creative flow.
