Seeing the Dead: A Gift or a Curse? Part One | Grave Talks CLASSIC
This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE!
From a very young age, Andy Hopkins learned that seeing spirits wasn’t a gift—it was a burden he never asked for.
As a child, Andy wasn’t just aware of the unseen… he could see it. Dark shapes moved through the hallways of his home. Heavy, deliberate footsteps echoed through the quiet nights, stopping just outside his bedroom door. Sleep became impossible as fear took hold, night after night, with one question repeating in his mind: What happens when the footsteps don’t stop walking?
Not every spirit Andy encountered was lost, curious, or harmless. Some felt intelligent. Some felt cruel. And some seemed determined to drive him from the only place that was supposed to be safe—his home.
Growing up with this ability meant learning too early that the spirit world isn’t made up of gentle watchers and lingering loved ones alone. There are darker presences as well—ones that feed on fear, confusion, and vulnerability.
Andy shares what it was like to grow up seeing spirits others couldn’t, the terrifying moments that still haunt him, and why having the ability to see the dead can sometimes feel more like a curse than a blessing.

Maybe Don’t Challenge the Ghost | Real Ghost Stories CLASSIC
During college, she seemed to encounter paranormal activity everywhere she lived. At first, most of it was strange but manageable—unexplained footsteps, doors opening on their own, noises coming from empty parts of the house.
She wasn’t particularly afraid of it. That may have been the problem. At one residence, she casually dismissed whatever was there as harmless. At another, someone decided it would be funny to openly mock the spirits they already suspected were in the house.
Both times, whatever they were dealing with seemed to respond. By the end of college, she had learned one rule she probably should have known from the beginning:
If you think something unseen might be listening, maybe don’t challenge it.

We Went to Climate Week: Three Takes on Adaptation, Resilience and New York
In episode 262 of America Adapts, host Doug Parsons heads to Climate Week NYC and compares notes with two fellow adaptation professionals who were also on the ground: Shaun Martin of World Wildlife Fund and Andreana Chou of AECOM. Instead of a traditional interview, the three take turns asking each other questions about what they saw, heard, and learned during one of the world's largest climate gatherings. They discuss whether adaptation is gaining ground at Climate Week, the growing role of the private sector and climate startups, who gets left out of expensive gatherings like this, and whether Climate Week's conversations are reaching anyone outside the climate community. They also tackle one of Doug's favorite subjects: what exactly do we mean by "resilience" when seemingly everyone is using the word differently? And because this is an informal debrief from New York, they wrap up with favorite meals, memorable moments, and what it was actually like to experience Climate Week firsthand. Three adaptation professionals, three different perspectives, and one very big week in New York.
