    David B. Knight, President and Founder of Ole Hickory Pits - Encore

    We speak with David Knight, the founder of Old Hickory Pits, about his convection technology and the design of high-quality smokers. I ask him how his interest began, and he explains it started in first grade and grew through work in restaurants. He describes how problems in his restaurant led him to develop commercial pits and later smaller backyard models up to the large Hogzilla unit. He explains that his convection method controls airflow to recycle heat and smoke, ensuring even low and slow cooking while keeping the fire separated from the meat. We discuss cleaning methods, grease drains, and the use of power washers, and we note the company’s presence at competitions and in international sales. I conclude that Old Hickory continues to refine its designs and to support relief and competitive barbecue efforts.     الحب في بؤونة

    تُعد التمثيلية الإذاعية الدرامية «الحب في بؤونة» (إنتاج عام 1978م عن إذاعة "صوت العرب" بالقاهرة؛ تأليف سمير عزيز وإخراج زياد علي فايق، وبطولة النجوم حسن حسين، فوزية عزت، سهام فتحي، سعد أردش، وعايدة كامل) إحدى كلاسيكيات الدراما الإذاعية التي تعالج أزمة الانفصام الثقافي وجذور الهوية الوطنية في مواجهة التغريب والهجرة. تدور الأحداث حول الموظف المخلص ومدير الشركة «فكري عبد الظاهر» (حسن حسين) وزوجته «أُولفت» (فوزية عزت)؛ حيث تشتعل بينهما الخلافات نتيجة إصرار الأم منذ الصغر على إلحاق أبنائهما بمدارس لغات أجنبية والتفاخر بتعليمهم الغربي بدلاً من ترسيخ لغتهم العربية وتاريخهم الوطني. وتكون النتيجة تشتت الأسرة وهجرة الأبناء الثلاثة إلى كندا والألمان والرياض، ليتحول تواصلهم مع الوالدين إلى مجرد مكالمات هاتفية سريعة ومكلفة تحاصر الأبوين بـ «عزلة عاطفية وسكون قاتل». وتتأزم الأحداث حين يقرر الابن الأصغر «سامي» الهجرة هو الآخر بدعوى البحث عن الثراء السريع بدلاً من الانتظار في قائمة البطالة. غير أن خطيبته الواعية «سهام» (سهام فتحي) ترفض مغادرة مصر والتخلي عن أهلها ووطنها، مؤكدة أن بناء الحياة يكمن في البقاء والكفاح على أرض الوطن. ومع وقوع حادث حريق في المطبخ وسفر الأم إلى كندا لرعاية ابنتها الحامل، يمر الأب بفترة مراجعة لحياته، قبل أن تتجلى نقطة التحول الكبرى في اقتناع الابن سامي برجاحة موقف خطيبته وأبيه؛ فيتراجع عن الهجرة ويشتري أرضاً زراعية مستصلحة بـ 8 فدادين في المريوطية ليعمل ويزرع أرض بلده. وتتوج القصة بعودة الأم مفاجئةً زوجها وأسرتها من كندا للالتفاف حول بيتها ووطنها من جديد، معلنةً أنه لا شيء يعوض دفء الوطن («في بؤونة مصر ولا ربيع الدنيا كلها»).
