Let us know what you think! This week on Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D, Joe welcomes the man who doesn’t like taking tests unless he already knows the answers—and apparently found a way around math class altogether. Naturally, Joe follows that up with questions about archaeology, the Trinity, and raising Christian kids. So much for an easy exam. First up: could a site in Turkey actually hold the remains of Noah’s Ark? We discuss the claims, what a confirmed discovery could mean, and whether more evidence would change minds—or just give people something new to argue about online. Then we turn to the Holy Spirit: why do we talk so much about the Father and Son while sometimes treating the Holy Spirit like the forgotten member of the Trinity? How do we distinguish His guidance from our own thoughts—or a terrible idea we’d really like God to approve? And if He’s the Comforter, why does following Him sometimes make us so uncomfortable? We also tackle parents’ responsibility for nurturing faith, and why raising kids to know God takes more than a cute outfit and a photo at church. Come for Pastor-D’s questionable relationship with mathematics. Stay for a conversation about evidence, obedience, and what happens when God’s direction clashes with our plans. Let us know what you think! This week on Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D, Joe sits down with Pastor-D for an episode that somehow manages to travel from Hollywood to Narnia, wander through the wilderness with the Israelites, and eventually land on one of the hardest things Christians are ever asked to do: wait on God. We kick things off with actress Anna Faris and the unusual spiritual conversations she’s having with her teenage son, who has been challenging his mom to consider Christianity. What happens when the kid is the believer and the parent isn’t? How should young Christians handle tough questions about abortion, hypocrisy in the Church, and faith when Mom or Dad doesn't share their beliefs? Then we're off to Narnia, where Hollywood has once again managed to make a talking lion controversial. We discuss the decision to cast Meryl Streep as Aslan, C. S. Lewis's unmistakably Christian symbolism, artistic license, and the larger cultural debate over whether modern adaptations should preserve an author's original religious vision or reinterpret it for a new generation. Then we get biblical—and Coast Kids asks the question everybody reading Genesis has wondered at some point: Why in the world did people live 900 years back then, and why can't we do that now? From there, we dig into persistent prayer. Can you actually pester God long enough that He finally says, “FINE! Here—now leave Me alone!” What was Jesus really teaching with the persistent widow? Does more faith mean we get more of what we ask for? How does doubt affect prayer? And when God doesn't give us the answer we want, why are we so tempted to grab the steering wheel and say, “That's okay, Lord. I got it from here”? We also tackle why children can sometimes accept faith so easily while adults can turn believing in Jesus into a doctoral dissertation, why James tells us to actually rejoice in our trials, and whether those trials are testing our faith, building it—or both. Finally, Pastor Stephen Cline's sermon brings us to the Israelites, their impatience, their homemade gods, and an uncomfortable question for the rest of us: Have we really surrendered our lives to God—or just the parts we don't mind Him controlling? And perhaps the biggest question of the episode: Why is “wait on the Lord” sometimes so much harder than “trust in the Lord”? Faith, doubt, prayer, patience, Hollywood, 969-year-old men, golden calves, Meryl Streep, and Mr. Booger Lips. Yep. Sounds like another perfectly normal episode of Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D. Let us know what you think! What do a new storage shed, the world’s wealthiest one percent and a midnight craving for Twinkies have in common? Apparently, quite a bit. This week, we begin with a Vatican statement condemning antisemitism and Islamophobia and ask whether growing interfaith cooperation is simply an effort to oppose religious hatred—or whether it could point toward something much larger in biblical prophecy. Could Catholicism and Islam ever move toward some kind of religious alliance, and might the Catholic Church play a role in the events Christians associate with the end times? We then turn to Jesus’ stories of The Rich Fool and The Friend at Midnight. Why did the wealthy farmer keep talking about “my crops, my barns and my grain?" When does responsible planning become selfish hoarding? Can someone give generously and still be spiritually greedy? And when God blesses us financially, how do we determine whether that money is intended for us—or entrusted to us for someone else? Finally, we tackle prayer: Where did it begin? Does persistent prayer actually change God’s mind? If He already knows what we need, why must we keep asking? When should we continue knocking, and when should we accept that the answer may be no? We even ask how God handles two people praying earnestly for completely opposite outcomes. Join us for a conversation about wealth, stewardship, unanswered prayer, religious unity, spiritual greed and why answering the door after midnight could leave you short a box of Twinkies. Let us know what you think! This week on Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D, Joe sits down with the man who apparently believes the IRS is doing the Lord’s work—and somehow, that isn’t even the most troubling subject of the day. We begin with politics, taxpayer-funded promises and one rather uncomfortable question: Are we watching democracy slowly vote itself into oblivion? From there, we turn to two of Jesus’ most challenging stories and ask what He really expects from people who claim to follow Him. Can someone be a genuine Christian without producing much visible fruit? What about a deathbed confession and repentance? Are good works evidence of salvation—and how many works are "enough?" Why did Jesus give the barren fig tree another year, and was the manure merely fertilizer…or was Jesus making a deeper point with the poop? We also discuss conviction versus conversion, grace versus accountability and the difference between trying not to do wrong and actively trying to do right. Joe then submits himself for a spiritual inspection involving an occasional drink and a good party. Finally, we ask whether calling Christianity the “superior decision” could lead us straight into the pride Jesus condemned in the Pharisees—and how we can know whether our faith is truly changing us or merely serving as a comfortable blanket over the things we don’t want to confront. It’s an honest conversation about repentance, spiritual fruit, self-deception and the patience of God—with Pastor-D, Joe and a smelly fig tree. Let us know what you think! Apparently, Pastor-D believes we all need a little weed in our lives. Before anyone calls the elders, he’s talking about Jesus’ parable of the wheat and the weeds—but that doesn’t stop Joe from asking how to recognize the human weeds tangled around our spiritual roots and, more importantly, how to remove them without pulling ourselves apart in the process. This episode begins with a serious discussion of the Lindsay Clancy trial, the lone holdout juror and a society that often seems quicker to explain evil than to call it evil. Can mental illness explain a terrible act without excusing it? Why does public sympathy sometimes drift away from the victims and toward the person responsible? And does standing alone against eleven other people offer Christians a glimpse of the pressure they may face when conscience collides with culture? From there, Joe and Pastor-D travel from a Massachusetts courtroom to the streets of Kathmandu, where Ramesh started a church without waiting for money, a building or perfect circumstances. They also examine why Jesus called Himself the “Son of Man,” why He taught through parables, why Christianity attracts hostility in supposedly tolerant places and whether churches have softened Jesus’ teachings about judgment and hell because they make people uncomfortable. Finally, they confront the “posers”—people who admire the idea of Jesus but have little interest in actually following Him. What separates genuine faith from a carefully maintained Christian image? It’s an episode about courage, accountability, dangerous weeds, uncomfortable truths and why looking religious is considerably easier than living faithfully. Listen now—preferably before Pastor-D’s gardening advice gets taken out of context. Let us know what you think! Ready for the Rapture…But Not the Gym Pastor-D gets dressed for the gym. Whether he actually makes it there is another matter. But that raises a surprisingly good question: Are we doing the spiritual equivalent—looking ready for Jesus without actually living ready? This week on Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D, Joe and Pastor-D go from questionable ’80s expressions and 12:30 a.m. pizza-and-Bible-study sessions to a much bigger question: If Jesus returned today, what would we wish we’d taken care of yesterday? Jesus told His followers to stay dressed, ready, and keep their lamps burning. But what does that look like on an ordinary Monday? Can we be ready without being afraid? And why do we keep trying to hide things from God—as though the Creator of the universe hasn’t checked that particular drawer? We also explore the surprising picture of a Master who serves His servants, how to recognize God’s calling when your next step isn’t clear, and whether being comfortable has made us spiritually sleepy. When the world feels increasingly hostile to our faith, how do we stand firm without treating people of other religions as enemies? And finally: What do you think Jesus will say to us first when He returns? Come for the laughs. Stay for the questions that might follow you home. No gym membership required. Let us know what you think! Does the devil have a wife? Would Jesus want Christians to keep an “open mind” about worldly issues? And is bringing up abortion really the fastest way to escape a barroom conversation that has gone completely off the rails? This week, Joe and Pastor-D begin with listener questions that somehow take them from Satan's wife to marijuana, Mississippi politics and Joe’s highly effective—though probably not pastor-approved—method of ending an argument. Then the conversation moves from rocky barroom theology to the rocky soil of Jesus’ Parable of the Sower. Why did people accuse Jesus of working with Satan when He was casting out demons? Why did His own family question whether He had lost His mind? And when Jesus scattered the good news so freely, was He also showing us how we should share it—even with people who seem unlikely to listen? Joe and Pastor-D dig into hardened hearts, shallow faith, the cost of becoming a genuine disciple and the modern-day thorns quietly choking the spiritual life out of us. Are worry, wealth, politics, entertainment and comparison keeping Christians from producing fruit? Should we focus on people most likely to respond, or throw seed everywhere and let God handle the harvest? And can someone be enormously successful in God’s eyes while looking like a complete failure to the world? Grab your gardening gloves, check the condition of your soil and join us for an episode featuring demons, discipleship, questionable conversational strategies and one uncomfortable question: Are we actually producing fruit—or have we just become very good at looking like a field? That’s My Jam!

Let us know what you think! What do a ’68 Mercury Cougar, a four-cylinder Camaro, Matchbox Twenty, and one very nervous Joshua have in common? Somehow, they all found their way into this episode of Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D. Joe and Pastor Dewayne talk about what it means to dream big as a Christian—and whether our dreams should look different when God is involved. How can we tell the difference between a God-given calling and something we simply want? When should we wait, when should we move, and how do we know when it’s finally time to jump? They also wrestle with fear, failure, planning, conflicting advice, unexpected setbacks, and whether choosing the safe path can limit what God wants to accomplish through us. Plus, Pastor-D reveals what he might pursue if money, fear, and failure were removed from the equation. Can you be scared and still be following God? Does faith eliminate the need for a plan? And what exactly did Pastor-D mean when he said Christians have access to “the vault of the King?" Listen in—if you can get past the fact that someone willingly traded a classic Cougar for a four-cylinder Camaro. That’s My Jam!

Let us know what you think! This week on Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D, Joe sits down with the man who apparently believes Coke Zero qualifies as hydration to discuss prayer, spiritual warfare, and victory over darkness. After hearing powerful stories involving Patrick Toth and Mike Welch, we consider how many unseen prayers may be working behind the scenes in someone’s life—even when that person has no idea what God is doing. We also tackle an important listener question: Christians are called to obey the law, but what happens when the law is completely ridiculous? If you sing off-key in North Carolina, photograph the wrong rabbit in Wyoming, or encounter an unlicensed mouse hunter in Ohio, are you facing divine judgment—or merely some very confused local authorities? Then the conversation gets deeper. How can we recognize spiritual darkness without blaming a demon for every bad decision we make? Why is it sometimes easier to say yes to Jesus than to say no to another helping of dessert, a “little white lie,” or something else our flesh wants? We discuss unstable feelings, unanswered questions, prayer as spiritual warfare, surrendering to God before resisting the devil, and trusting that God may be rescuing us even when life appears to be falling apart. Is that difficult person really the enemy? Have we unknowingly wandered outside the fortress? Join us for an honest, humorous, and practical conversation about recognizing darkness, standing firm, and finding victory through Christ. That's My Jam with Pastor Dave!

Let us know what you think! What do guitar pedals, mathematical equations, Diet Coke, church unity, and the Body of Christ have in common? Believe it or not...quite a bit. This week, Joe sits down with Coast Life Church Worship Pastor Dave Chatham to talk about music, faith, and the incredible way God designed both. Along the way they tackle questions like: Is music actually built on God's universal language? Why do harmony and unity matter so much—in music and in the Church? How do you discover your spiritual gifts? And why do so many people think church exists to entertain them? They also dive into loneliness in a world that's more connected than ever, why Christians sometimes struggle to act like one body, and what the local church offers that social media never can. Of course, it wouldn't be Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D without a few laughs. Expect stories about Pastor Dave's dad, Diet Coke, loop stations, and Joe asking questions that somehow manage to connect theology with math. Whether you're a musician, a church member, or someone who's ever wondered where you fit in God's plan, this conversation will challenge you to find your place in the Body of Christ—and remind you that every part matters. That’s My Jam!

Let us know what you think! Is kindness becoming a lost art? In a world where outrage often gets more attention than compassion, what would happen if Christians became known first for their kindness? This week on Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D, Pastor Chatham (Pastor Dave's dad) and Joe unpack Jesus' words from Matthew 9:35–38 and explore His commission, His compassion, and His command. They discuss why Jesus compared people to sheep without a shepherd, what it really means to be "moved with compassion," and why the harvest is still plentiful while the workers remain few. Along the way, they tackle some challenging questions: Are churches waiting for people to come to them instead of taking the Gospel into the community? Why are Christians sometimes better at winning arguments than winning people? Is kindness a sign of weakness—or one of the greatest demonstrations of spiritual strength? As always, there's a little laughter, a little controversy, and a practical challenge for every believer. If you've ever wondered how to make a genuine difference in someone's life without standing behind a pulpit, this episode is for you. So grab a cup of coffee, settle in, and join us for another episode of Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D. That’s My Jam!

Let us know what you think! Why do we celebrate our own victories but struggle to celebrate someone else's? Is jealousy one of Satan's favorite weapons? And why is it that the moment you need help moving a couch, everyone's back suddenly goes out? This week on Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D, Joe and Pastor D kick things off with a discussion about politics, church leadership, and whether Congress should come with an expiration date before diving into the classic 3 Doors Down hit "Kryptonite." From there, the conversation explores what it truly means to be a friend in a culture that desperately needs encouragement but seems to specialize in criticism. Along the way, you'll hear why Pastor D apparently thinks Joe smells amazing, discover why we've somehow never heard the story of him stealing a bicycle, learn why kindness can actually be terrifying, and find out how a sermon about friendship unexpectedly wandered into... cooking oil. As always. If you've ever wondered how to build genuine friendships, encourage others without sounding fake, or why so many people feel lonely even while sitting in a room full of Christians, this episode is packed with practical wisdom, plenty of laughs, and a few uncomfortable truths that just might make you a better friend. That’s My Jam!

Let us know what you think! What happens when following Jesus makes you the weird one? In this episode of Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D, Joe and Pastor D kick things off the only way they know how—with jokes about global warming, Donald Trump impressions, sparse holiday crowds, worshipping from a fishing boat, and whether Pastor-D's blood sugar needs to become a regular segment on the show. Then the conversation takes a serious turn. Drawing from the message "Overcoming the Voices Outside," they ask why Christians seem so determined to fit into a culture that often rejects the very values they claim to believe. Is being different actually part of the Christian calling? When does standing for truth become persecution...and when are we simply being difficult? Why does disagreement so quickly become hatred? The discussion also explores some uncomfortable but important questions: Should Christians expect to make people uncomfortable? Is being universally liked actually a spiritual warning sign? Why are we so afraid of what other people think? Has social media made us more concerned with public approval than God's approval? How should we respond when our faith is mocked or criticized? And what can American Christians learn from believers around the world who risk their lives simply for following Christ? This episode is funny, thought-provoking, and challenging all at the same time. Whether you've ever felt like you don't quite fit in, struggled with people-pleasing, or wondered why biblical truth seems so offensive in today's culture, this conversation will give you plenty to think about. One question lingers long after the microphones are turned off: If nobody is ever bothered by the way you live out your faith...are you following Jesus, or just following the crowd? Tune in and decide for yourself. That’s My Jam!

Let us know what you think! Can a pastor punch someone in the face and still preach on Sunday? That's just one of the questions Joe and Pastor-D tackle in this week's episode of Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D. After discussing a Louisiana pastor arrested for defending his family against violent threats and the controversy surrounding Methodist seminaries standing firm on biblical doctrine, the guys dive into this week's message: "Overcoming the Voices in My Head." Why are we so quick to believe the lies we tell ourselves? Why is forgiveness described as health, not just something that's healthy? How do we know when we're listening to God's voice instead of our fears, our desires, or the Enemy's deception? And if Satan's tactics are so predictable...why do we keep falling for them? They also wrestle with questions every Christian eventually asks: Can you forgive someone without trusting them again? When should a Church restore someone who has fallen? Is it possible to mistake relief from anxiety for the voice of God? What does the devil actually gain by leading people away from Christ? Whether you're battling anxiety, wrestling with self-doubt, trying to discern God's direction, or you're just here to find out if Pastor-D needed a 2XL because the 1XL was "too cluddered," this episode has something for you. Warning: You may come for the jokes...but you might leave rethinking which voices you've been listening to all along. That’s My Jam!

Let us know what you think! Children are like arrows in the hands of a warrior...but what happens when the warrior is afraid to let go? In this Father's Day episode of Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D, Joe and Pastor-D dive into Psalm 127 and discuss what it really means to raise children in a world that seems determined to keep them dependent. Should parents focus on raising happy kids, successful kids, or godly adults? At what point does helping become hindering? And why are so many young adults afraid to leave the nest these days? Along the way, they will tackle questions about discipline, encouragement, absent fathers, helicopter parenting, children who walk away from God, and whether modern parents have accidentally outsourced their God-given responsibilities to schools, coaches, and even the church. They also wrestle with some uncomfortable questions: Can you do everything "right" and still have a prodigal child? What's more damaging: failure or never being allowed to fail? Are parents trying too hard to be their children's friends? And what exactly happened when Pastor-D's son put "dad strength" to the test? Plus, a listener question from the kids: Does Jesus have a heavenly mother? Whether you're a parent, grandparent, future parent, or someone still trying to figure out what your parents were thinking, this episode will challenge the way you view family, faith, and the next generation. That’s My Jam!

Let us know what you think! This week on Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D, Joe and Pastor-D somehow managed to connect Coldplay’s Yellow, righteousness, aliens, hope, Steven Spielberg, church attendance, emotional highs, and why humans are weirdly entertained by darkness…all in one conversation. We also tackled some heavy questions: Why do people think that church attendance equals salvation? Why does righteousness offend people? Can someone actually reflect the brightness of God without even realizing it? And what would happen if the world suddenly discovered extraterrestrial life? Along the way, Pastor-D opens up about his own struggles with hope, why God sometimes feels silent, and why true biblical hope is completely different from the “just stay positive” mindset the world keeps selling us. Also discussed: • Gigglebumps • Pastor-D's descending colon • Why God is slow to anger while we all lose our minds in traffic • Why we keep watching things we know we should turn off • And whether people can literally see righteousness in someone before they understand what they’re seeing It’s thoughtful, funny, slightly unhinged, and surprisingly encouraging. So grab your Bible, your conspiracy board, and maybe your emotional support casserole…and join us for another episode of Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D. BRAZEN

Let us know what you think! What happens when a Sunday sermon gets interrupted by a heckler, a pastor refuses to back down, and the conversation somehow ends up discussing Satan's biggest lies, spiritual growth and using social media to attack evil? This week on Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D, Joe and Pastor D unpack one of the most unexpected moments ever to happen during a Coast Life Church service. A woman stands up, shouts her disagreement in the middle of the sermon, and unknowingly becomes the perfect illustration of the very message Pastor D was preaching. Was it just an emotional outburst, or does it reveal something much deeper about our culture's obsession with self, comfort, and avoiding hard truths? The conversation dives into why people keep reshaping Jesus into someone who never confronts sin, the difference between being bold and being obnoxious, why spiritual growth is so difficult, and whether Christians have become addicted to approval. Along the way, they tackle Satan's most effective lies, discuss how believers can be aggressive without being abrasive, and explore whether social media can be turned into a weapon for spreading the Gospel instead of spreading nonsense. If you've ever wondered why truth makes people uncomfortable—or why some people get angry when they hear it—this episode is one you won't want to miss. Brazen

Let us know what you think! Ever wondered what would happen if the modern Church experienced Pentecost exactly like the Book of Acts describes it? Would we shout, cry, run to the altar…or quietly file a complaint with the deacons because things got a little “too emotional?" This week’s episode dives headfirst into the power, mystery, and controversy surrounding the Holy Spirit. We’re talking wind, fire, boldness, tongues, doubt, intellect, pride, fear, and why Christians today often pray more for comfort than courage. Along the way, we ask some uncomfortable questions: Can intelligence become a barrier to faith? Why do we avoid talking about the Holy Spirit? And if someone feels spiritually numb or distant from God…where do they even begin? Somewhere between Mount Sinai and the Upper Room, between skepticism and surrender, this conversation gets very real. Fair warning: if your theology has never been challenged, stretched, or set slightly on fire before…this episode may do all three.
