Is it ever okay for a Christian to lie? What if you're lying to a scammer who's trying to steal Grandma's retirement money? And if God already knows everything we're thinking, why do we need the Holy Spirit to pray on our behalf?
This week on Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D, Joe and Pastor Dewayne Watson dive headfirst into some fascinating questions about truth, deception, the Holy Spirit, and figuring out what God actually wants us to do with our lives.
We kick things off with a discussion about Pierogi, the Christian scam-baiter behind Scammer Payback, who tricks scammers into revealing themselves and then turns the tables on them. He's protecting innocent people, but he's also deliberately deceiving the bad guys. So, does a good intention make a lie acceptable to God? Or is a lie still a lie, regardless of who's telling it?
But the conversation really gets interesting when we turn our attention to the Holy Spirit. How do you know when He's speaking to you? Is that little voice in your head your conscience, the Holy Spirit, or just the questionable leftovers from last night's dinner? Does God send people into our lives to guide us? And when someone confidently announces, "God told me to do this," how much confidence should the rest of us place in that statement?
We also explore what it means when Scripture says the Spirit intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words, and how Paul knew when the Holy Spirit was directing him away from certain places.
Finally, we get into a subject just about every Christian can relate to: trying to follow God's will without getting ahead of Him.Are life's setbacks God's way of redirecting us, testing our faith, or simply allowing us to experience the consequences of our own decisions? Can good intentions actually lead to disobedience? And can our expectations of God's blessings sometimes cross the line into pride?
It's an episode full of tough questions, biblical discussion, a few laughs, and plenty of opportunities to examine what we believe and why we believe it.
So grab a cup of coffee, keep an open mind, and join us for another episode of Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D.
