September Is the Real New Year for Moms (Here's Why)

Every mom knows the September scramble: new school schedule, new aftercare or evening routine, new sports and activities, the final stretch of work projects before the year winds down. Everything gets a slot on the calendar. Here's the truth: while we're busy getting our kids ready for their next year of growth, we rarely stop to notice that we're being invited into a similar direction ourselves. In this episode, I walk through why September, not January, is the real new year for moms in midlife, how self-abandonment happens in a thousand small trades rather than one big moment, and where to actually look first if you're ready to come back into balance. Key Takeaways: Why the autumn equinox is a better metaphor for balance than any January resolution How self-abandonment happens incrementally, not in one defining moment Practicing the art of the Return, and what's waiting for you once you arrive Ready for guidance and mentoring instead of winging it alone? Midlife Nourishment: Eating From Care, Not Control

Every woman comes into midlife with her own storied history in relationship with food. Our thoughts, feelings, and habits around food are inherited: from diet culture, from family, from social rules about what makes you "good" or "healthy." Here’s the truth: most women are tired, not from trying to eat well, but from the shame and pressure our culture puts on us around how we eat. In this episode, I walk through why midlife motherhood is actually an opening to redefine what you want your relationship to food to be, separate from every rule you've absorbed, and what can motivate real nourishing habits and practices helpful for physical, mental, and emotional health as your brain and body change in perimenopause. Key Takeaways: Why you might be outgrowing the old ways you’ve learned to motivate food choices The three Healing Nourishment Principles I teach inside the Vibrant Mom Pathway Program Why nourishment works best when it comes from care instead of control, and what that actually looks like day to day Ready to go deeper and get real support and strategy for vibrant midlife health? The Emotion Nobody Names at Back to School (and Every Other Kiddo Transition)

Every mom I talk to this week has a different feeling about back to school, and it can even shift day to day for the same woman. Underneath the relief and the nostalgia is something most of us have never actually named, and once you do, the guilt around the mixed feelings in transitions with our kids starts to loosen. In this episode I walk through what's really going on underneath both feelings, why neither one is wrong, and how to find your own focus for the season ahead instead of getting stuck choosing a side. Key Takeaways: What ambivalence actually means, and why wanting two things at once isn't confusion, it's a real and legitimate emotional experience Why guilt shows up as a secondary emotion when we don't know how to relate to ambivalence skillfully Why back to school (and every kiddo transition) stirs this up so intensely A reflective practice for deciding what you want your focus to be on within yourself this fall, alongside the growth in store for your kiddos This episode is for the mom who's tired of picking a side between relief and nostalgia and just wants to feel both, without the guilt and with a little more guidance. Inside My Medicine Cabinet: What's Actually Worth it for Midlife Ladies

For most of my life, I took no daily vitamins or supplements. I've always been lukewarm when it comes to pills and I've never liked the idea of taking "a lot of things." But over the last five years in perimenopause, that's changed. Everything in my medicine cabinet now serves a real purpose, and I can feel the difference. In this episode, I open up my actual cabinet: my hormone replacement routine, the supplements I rely on for mood, sleep, cognition, and energy, and the two I consistently see make the biggest difference for the women I work with. I talk honestly about HRT, and discuss some of the early signs of perimenopause to help you discern your own next steps. In this episode: What changed my mind about supplements after years of taking none What's actually in my cabinet, and why, and my routine The two supplements I see move the needle most for the women I work with How to know when it's time to bring HRT into the conversation with your provider Ready for more expert guidance and a vibrant group of women to grow with this year? How Perimenopause Changed Our Marriage: A Conversation With My Husband

We like to joke that our marriage has changed twice so far. The first time was after the birth of our son. The second was when we hit our 40s and perimenopause joined the party. In this episode, Brent joins me for an open, honest, and often funny conversation about the two changes that have shaken up our marriage most: brain fog and sleep. We talk about what it's actually like for both of us when I lose my train of thought mid-sentence, and the (very large) body pillow that now lives between us in bed after over a decade of being snuggle sleepers. This isn't a relationship how-to. It's a real look at what this season has done to a 20+ year marriage, and the ongoing work of staying connected through it. Key Takeaways: What brain fog actually looks like day to day, and what Brent noticed from the outside before it had a name The full story behind the body pillow, including Brent's honest take on losing his job as the heat source How becoming parents once asked the same growth of our marriage that perimenopause is asking now What's actually helped us stay a team through the friction, communication, naming needs out loud, and not taking the hard moments personally This episode is for any couple in a season where one partner is changing and the relationship is having to change with them. Is Stress Increasing? Take This on Your Lunch Break

You've trained yourself to believe rest comes after everything is done, but in real life, nothing is ever fully done. The to-do list regenerates. The inbox refills. The finish line you've been waiting for doesn't exist, and you've been paying the price the whole time. In this episode, I'm walking you through the signs that stress is building in your mind and body, why strategic rest in the middle of the mess isn't indulgent, it's the art of midlife stress management. Then I’ll guide you through a real ten-minute lunch break relaxation practice you can take today, wherever you are. Key Takeaways: A few honest signs to watch for when stress is gradually building, before it becomes overwhelm A new way to think about rest, not as something you earn, but something you take A ten-minute guided practice you can use on your lunch break, in your car, or anywhere you have ten quiet minutes A tool for checking in with yourself in the middle of a full day, not just at the end of it Grab my free toolkit for more support with real, doable midlife stress management resources at www.caramaiolo.com

The One Place You Forget to Look When You're Running on Empty

When you're depleted or unsettled, where do you actually go? For most of us, it's outward. The scroll. The audiobook the second the car door shuts. More Netflix than we meant to watch. Waiting until Friday's lunch with a friend to finally deal with what's been sitting in our chest since Tuesday. None of that means you're doing anything wrong. It means most of us were never taught what to do with our inner world in real time. In this episode, you'll learn about self-friendship: not self-care, not a bubble bath, not a solo weekend away, but the ongoing daily practice of showing up for yourself the way you show up for the people you love most. You'll walk away with an understanding of why we reach outward, what the gap between meaningful connection actually costs us, and the 24-hour rule, one simple commitment that changes your relationship with yourself without adding another thing to your list. Key Takeaways: Reaching outward when you're depleted makes complete sense, and self-friendship is the skill that fills the gap without replacing your need for others. Self-friendship is not self-care. It's the daily practice of getting curious about what you're feeling and listening to what you actually need, without waiting for someone else to be available first. The 24-hour rule: don't let 24 hours go by without meaningfully attending to your inner world in whatever way is available to you right now. Ready to go deeper? The Midlife Mom's Stress Source Nobody Names (And the Skill That Changes Everything)

Most midlife moms are managing stress by looking outward — at the schedule, the relationships, the never-ending list of demands. And that makes sense, because many situational stressors ARE out there. But there's a hidden one that rarely gets named: the emotional experience itself. As humans, we're having emotional experiences all day long, and most of us were never taught how to fully digest and metabolize them. So they pile up. That backlog can start to show up as perfectionism, irritability, people-pleasing, low energy, and a dozen other things we mistake for personality traits. In this episode, we discuss what's actually happening and learn the comprehensive skill set that changes everything about how you move through your days. Key Takeaways: Why the emotional experience itself becomes the hidden, ongoing stressor (not just the circumstances around it) The two reasons the backlog builds and why it erodes resilience over time What it actually looks like to metabolize an emotional experience, and why this is a learnable skill Ready to go deeper? From Smaller to Stronger: A Different Kind of Summer Body Goal

Summer arrives and something in your mindset might amplify. Maybe you're still getting used to this year's body in a bathing suit. Maybe it's the beach vacation where you spend more time in your head than in the water. The familiar voice that starts calculating, comparing, reaching for the same response it's always reached for, delay eating or eat less, run a little longer, try to get smaller to feel less self-conscious. You've been carrying that voice since you were a young person. Be attractive, be smaller. And in midlife, it's the perfect opportunity to shift this mindset, and embrace a different way of being with and seeing your body. Key Takeaways: Making the mindset transition from smaller to stronger and why midlife is the perfect time for this change up. Why restriction and the idea of long workout sessions are actually working against your physiology and schedule. What health experts say midlife women's bodies actually need to thrive and the midlife body framework: the practices that genuinely support you in your 40's and beyond. This episode is an invitation to renew your relationship with your body and step into a way of being and relating to yourself that is expansive, responsive and empowered. The Midlife Mind: Why Your Brain Won't Quiet (And the Skill That Changes Everything)

You finally carved out a few minutes for yourself. Or you’re trying to be more present in a meaningful moment? Or after a minute of trying a mindfulness practice, your brain hands you a grocery list. A reminder to register for the thing. The email you forgot to send. The appointment you need to schedule. In this episode, I'm naming what's actually happening when your mind gets loud the moment you try to slow down and why it's not a character flaw, not a discipline problem, and not a sign you're bad at this. It's your brain doing exactly what it was trained to do. And learning to work with it, rather than fight it, is one of the most foundational skills you can build in midlife. Key Takeaways: Why the research on midlife women's health points to mindfulness as one of the most important skills to develop first and what that actually means in real life What's really happening in your brain when it won't quiet, and why midlife amplifies it The real definition of mindfulness and why the goal was never silence The Three Breath Approach: a simple 60-second tool to help you arrive at your practice before your to-do list derails it This episode is for the mom who has tried to build a practice, felt her brain immediately pull her somewhere else, and quietly decided she must not be cut out for it. From Soul Starved to Soul Fed: Building a Spiritual Practice That Actually Sticks

You've been tending to everyone and everything. Your kids, your work, your relationships, the hundred things that need you every single day. And you're good at it. But somewhere in all of that outward focus, a quieter part of you has been going hungry for something deeper. In this episode, I'm naming what soul starvation actually feels like, why the caregiving role in midlife creates a particular kind of disconnection from your inner world, and introducing the Soul Nourishment Daily Practice: a simple container and a menu of practices that gives your soul a reliable place to land. Key Takeaways: Why soul starvation is different from burnout and why it tends to surface at threshold moments in midlife motherhood How the outward demands of caregiving across family and work create a specific kind of disconnection from your deeper self The two things that get in the way when you finally carve out time for something more meaningful and how to keep them from getting in your way The Soul Nourishment Morning Practice: how to build a container that actually sticks and a menu of seven practices to choose from based on your preferences This episode is for the mom who has been facing outward for so long that she's forgotten what it feels like to turn back in and is ready to begin again. Connection, Capacity, Creativity: The Framework for Feeling Better for Moms in Midlife

Emotional well-being was never about feeling good all the time. It's about feeling everything better, the grief and the joy, the frustration and the delight, the longing and the love, with more of yourself available to the experience. In this episode, I'm walking through the difference between coping and the deeper vertical work, introducing the 3 C's of the Vibrant Mom Framework, and showing you exactly what each one looks like in a real midlife mom's life. Not a perfect one. A real one. Key Takeaways: Why coping is horizontal, and what the vertical alternative actually looks like How to know when coping is serving you and when it's become the whole strategy What your emotions are actually carrying underneath the first fear-based story your mind tells The 3 C's — Connection, Capacity, Creativity — and what gets built when you start doing the real inner work This episode is for the mom who has been managing her life more than living it, and is ready to feel all of it, better. Is This Me, Or Is This Perimenopause?

There's a question a lot of midlife moms are carrying around in the background, usually somewhere between pickup and bedtime, when the evening hasn't gone the way they hoped and they find themselves distant and down, or anxious and sped up, or irritable and annoyed. Is this me? Or is this my hormones? Key Takeaways: Why most moms minimize the hormonal influence, and why it's almost always both/and, not either/or How hormone fluctuations during perimenopause directly affect mood, and why irritability, anxiety, and reduced stress tolerance are biological events, not character flaws The gap nobody is filling: why the perimenopause doctors and the parenting experts are both missing the inner emotional layer mom’s are experiencing What becomes possible when you stop pushing through a difficult moment and turn toward it instead with updated emotional wellbeing tools This episode is for the midlife mom who is doing everything right on the outside and still finding some moments unexpectedly hard, and who is ready to build a real skill set for her inner world. The Inward Turn: You Haven't Disappeared (You've Been Looking Outward.)

Most of us know what it feels like to be fully present for everyone around us, and quietly unfamiliar with ourselves. Not because something is wrong with us. Because the outward pull is constant, rigorous, and real. And without an inward return, something slowly goes missing. In this episode, I'm naming what that quiet cost actually looks like, offering a reframe that changes how you understand your own experience, and walking you through The Inward Turn: a simple three-breath practice you can begin today, woven into the pockets of transitional moments in your day. Key Takeaways: Why the feeling of having lost yourself isn't a character flaw -- and what it actually is What "skimming the surface of your own life" looks like and why it happens to the most devoted, capable women Why waiting for the girls' weekend or the vacation to feel like yourself again is costing you more than you realise The Inward Turn three breath approach: a friendly hello, a gentle inquiry, a chosen quality, and how to find your opportunity for it every single day What becomes available when you turn inward: your creativity, your expressiveness, the parts of you that aren't in service of anyone This episode is for the mom and the professional woman who has been pointing outward for a long time and is ready to find her way back to herself (starting smaller than she thinks). The Midlife Mom's Real Guide to Managing Stress (No Meditation App Required!)

If you've ever been told to "manage your stress" and walked away with no real idea what that actually means, this episode is for you. Most of the stress management advice midlife moms receive stays on the surface: meditate more, take time for yourself, do something relaxing. And while those things aren't wrong, they don't touch what's actually generating the stress underneath. In this episode, I introduce the Four S's, a specific, liveable framework for stress management that was built for the reality of your life, not a version of it that doesn't exist. Key Takeaways: Why "manage your stress" is incomplete advice and what's actually missing from the conversation The Four S's of stress management: Simplify, Savor, Soften & Listen, Share Simple, practical ways to weave each of these into the day you're already having, no overhaul required This episode is for the mom who is tired of advice that doesn't fit her actual life.
