Stanford’s Cole Sprout Shares Reflections From His Successful Career + What He Has Planned For The Future

Many athletes run fast. Few are genuinely kind people and do good things off the track. Even fewer are both. Today’s guest, Cole Sprout, is undoubtedly both. In this conversation, Cole and I go all over the spectrum. Shannon Thompson, MAPP, NCCP Gives A Masterclass in Mindset & Mental Performance Pt. 2

Today’s conversation is one that will greatly help you in all aspects of life. How will it do that you might ask? Well, today’s conversation is all about the mind and mental performance. These things affect our daily lives and running more than we might think they do. Who better to have this conversation with than my good friend and mental performance counselor Shannon Thompson. Shannon currently has a Masters in Applied Positive Psychology. She works closely with many high-performing individuals every single day. Putting it best, “Her approach is science-based, philosophical, and spiritual. She draws upon empirical research and the literary arts to help each individual perform at his or her best consistently.” This is a two-part series. The first episode is a background on Shannon and some beginning mental performance topics. The second episode is more of a deep dive into specific topics. Both conversations are equally amazing and I hope you will take the time to listen to both of them! Shannon has been supporting the podcast from day one. Chasing After History With Oregon Legend Wes Shipsey

Many people want to be good at something. Very few put in the work to be good. My guest today on the podcast Wes Shipsey is someone who puts in hours of work each day in order to reach his potential. In his words, “You get out what you put in.” That’s the reason behind his 80-mile weeks and absurd workouts like 20x400 in an average of 61 seconds. Wes also ran his state meet with a fever of 103 degrees. I looked up the definition of dedicated and a picture of Wes came up. Not only is Wes fast, but very well-spoken. I was very impressed with his in-depth responses to my questions and insight into his career so far. Shelby Houlihan Speaks On A Year Of Hell: Her 4 Year Ban, Her Story, Biggest Misconceptions, Why She's Clean, & More.

On June 9, 2021, Olympian & American Record Holder Shelby Houlihan was banned from the sport of running for four years. Over the past 11 months, Shelby has done anything and everything to prove her innocence. She’s done things that cost a fortune just to try and bring back the thing she loves: competing and training at the highest level possible. Despite mounting evidence helping prove her innocence, the AIU ruled Shelby Houlihan guilty of taking a performance-enhancing substance. This takes out four critical years of her career. As her coach, Jerry Schumacher says, “She just might be the best 1500m runner in the world this year, but we will never get the opportunity to find out. And that’s a tragedy.” Shelby has devoted her whole life to reaching the pinnacle of the sport. She’s gotten to where she is through hard work, passion, dedication, and a mindset like no other. Nowhere along the way has Shelby ever taken shortcuts or done anything illegal. At the youngest of ages growing up in Sioux City, Iowa, Shelby would tell her mom, “Mom, I’m going to be the best. I’m going to be somebody someday.” The one thing Shelby has not been able to do is to speak publicly about her ban due to not wanting to upset the AIU during her appeals process. Over the past 11 months, Shelby, her teammates, and her family have all been subject to extraordinary slander and hatred. This episode is Shelby’s side of the story. What actually happened behind the scenes and how this process has affected her life. You may disagree or not believe in Shelby, but I sincerely ask you to listen to this episode. You will benefit greatly from hearing Shelby’s vulnerability, heart, and openness in sharing her story. We could be here endlessly debating all the different facts of the case, evidence on both sides, and much more. But that’s not what we’re here to do. All we’re here to do is give Shelby an opportunity to share her heart, give her side of the story in full, and give her the opportunity to answer every misconception about the situation. As Shelby’s coach Shalane Flanagan stated, “We are living in a nightmare that we can’t seem to wake up from.” I will always stand for those who I believe in. I believe in Shelby Houlihan and you should too. Shelby Houlihan is a hill I’m willing to die on. #justiceforshelby S H O W N O T E S Shelby’s Website with additional info and all the studies and facts cited in today's conversation: https://www.clearshelby.com Shelby’s Instagram: https://instagram.com/shelbo800?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= Shelby Houlihan’s Suspension Is a Track & Field Tragedy: https://www.letsrun.com/news/2021/06/shelby-houlihans-suspension-is-a-track-field-tragedy/ You Don’t Know Shelby Houlihan: https://www.womensrunning.com/culture/people/you-dont-know-shelby-houlihan/ Statement From Coach Jerry Schumacher: https://www.bowermantc.com/new-blog/2021/6/14/statement-from-coach-jerry-schumacher My Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/therunningeffect/?hl=en

The Woman Behind The Success Of The Bowerman Track Club: Emily Pritt Shares Her Story

In episode sixty-six of The Running Effect, I have the great privilege of speaking with Emily Pritt. Emily is the Director of Brand Marketing at the Bowerman Track Club. She's also the Youth Club Director and a Nike Campus Coach. In addition to this, Emily is an Athlete Services Manager at Flynn Sports. In this episode, we go through all of this and more! Emily chronicles her journey in the sport of running, the lessons it's taught her, and more. She then takes us through all the amazing work she does over at The Bowerman Track Club. Emily goes through her career in marketing and her journey to the positions she now holds. Emily is one of those people who is vital to the success of the athletes. Every athlete I've talked to on BTC about Emily has talked about how hard-working and vital Emily is to the team. Many people see the results of the Bowerman Track Club, but don't see the people behind their success. One of the main people behind their success who gets little recognition is Emily. Last, but not least, Emily talks about the BTC High School Running Camp! She goes through the creation of the camp and pitches the idea to all of you high schoolers to sign up. So I hope you all enjoy this episode as much as I did! Emily's positive spirit is contagious and her story is inspiring to say the least. Please like, subscribe, and share with your friends to help us out! You can also give us a five-star review on Spotify. Emily will be back soon!
