BPD Favorite Person or Healthy Relationship? How to Tell the Difference
How can you tell the difference between normal excitement about someone and a BPD “favorite person” relationship that’s starting to take over? In this mini episode of The BPD Bunch, Xannie, Carys, Jack, and Katja share their experiences with favorite person (FP) relationships and the signs that helped them recognize when attachment was becoming unhealthy. They talk about what happens when one person starts consuming your attention, affecting your priorities and other relationships, or even influencing your sense of identity. They also explore an important distinction: healthy relationships can influence us too. So where is the line? Topics include: • BPD favorite person relationships • Favorite person vs. healthy relationships • Obsession vs. normal relationship excitement • Idealization and splitting • Losing yourself in relationships • Identity disturbance in BPD • Neglecting other relationships and priorities • BPD relationships and recovery There isn’t one behavior that automatically makes someone your “favorite person.” Looking at the intensity, context, and overall impact on your life can help you better understand what’s happening in your relationships.
