Resilience: How Your Body Learns to Adapt
Week 1 — Resilience: How Your Body Learns to Adapt What if resilience isn’t about staying strong, pushing through or never struggling? What if resilience is something your body is already learning — every single day? In Week 1 of Somatic in September, Heidi Hadley takes you into the ancient Daintree Rainforest to explore what nature can teach us about resilience, adaptation and the remarkable capacity of the human body to change. Ancient trees don’t survive because they avoid storms. They survive because they adapt. Your body does something remarkably similar. Throughout life, your nervous system continually responds to experience, while your fascia and neuromuscular system adapt to the demands placed upon them. Rather than seeing ourselves as permanently “stuck”, understanding this adaptability can offer a very different perspective: Change is possible. In this episode, Heidi explores: Why resilience doesn’t mean being calm all the time What ancient trees can teach us about adapting to change How your nervous system continually responds and learns from experience How fascia remodels throughout life Why patterns in the body don’t necessarily have to be permanent The difference between resilience and simply “pushing through” How curiosity can help us develop greater body awareness Why small, consistent experiences can create meaningful change over time 🌳 Your Somatic in September Practice This week, find a tree. It might be in your garden, your local park, along your morning walk, or even outside your office window. Take a moment to really notice it. Then ask yourself: What has helped this tree to grow? Consider its roots. The weather it has endured. The seasons it has experienced. The conditions that have shaped it. Then gently turn the question towards yourself: What has helped me to grow? No judgement. No need to fix anything. Just curiosity. Because perhaps resilience isn’t about avoiding the storms of life. Perhaps it’s about developing deeper roots, greater adaptability and the capacity to find our way back towards balance. 🎧 Free Regulation Practice Complement this episode with Heidi’s short guided eye movement and breathing practice: https://TotalSomatics.com/Regulate Next week, we journey from the rainforest to the Great Barrier Reef and explore how connection, interdependence and adaptability can create strength. “The strongest trees aren’t the ones that avoid the storm. They’re the ones that learn through it.
