Confidence in Midlife: Why it feels different after 40

What if the midlife confidence crisis isn't about losing confidence; but about outgrowing what used to create it? In today’s episode Lauren and Nicole unpack why confidence feels harder to access in your 40s and 50s, even when nothing's "wrong." They break confidence down into six areas: identity, capability, body image, desirability, agency, and belonging and do a confidence audit asking the questions most women never stop to ask themselves. In this episode we discuss: Why the confidence markers that worked in your 20s and 30s stop working in midlife The link between perimenopause symptoms (brain fog, fatigue, poor sleep) and feeling "less capable" Body image and attractiveness in midlife - what actually changes Why confidence often comes after action, not before it Rebuilding friendships and finding "your people" in midlife How evidence, not perfection, builds real confidence If you've ever felt like you don't recognize yourself lately, this episode is for you. We put your questions to Professor Guy Leschziner, one of the UK's leading neurologists and sleep experts. Guy is a Consultant Neurologist at Welbeck and Guy’s Hospital and St Thomas’ Hospital, where he runs specialist sleep and epilepsy clinics as well as general neurology clinics. Self Care Club Is Evolving: Midlife, Menopause & What’s Coming Next

Before the rumours start… no, Self Care Club isn’t ending! We’re just pressing pause for the summer. After nearly seven years of making the podcast we love, we’ve been having some honest conversations about where the show is now, where we’ve changed, and where we want to go next. Because the truth is we’re not the same women who started this podcast. The audience has changed, the wellness world has changed, and our conversations have changed too. Somewhere along the way, we found ourselves talking less about collagen and goat yoga, and much more about the things that actually shape our lives now. Hormones, confidence, ageing, relationships, careers, teenagers, marriage, the mental load, identity, ambition, reinvention and what the second half of life really looks like. And those are the conversations we’re most excited about. So we’re taking a summer break to rest, rethink and create a refreshed version of Self Care Club. Same friendship, same honesty, same laughs, but with a much bigger focus on midlife and the brilliant, messy, confusing stage of life we’re all navigating. Expect conversations about menopause, women’s health, confidence, friendship after 40, ageing, beauty, sex, identity, empty nests, ADHD in women, relationships, reinvention and everything else we’re all secretly wondering about. Because midlife deserves its own space. Women in their 40s and 50s are often talked about, but not always talked to. We want this show to feel like sitting down with friends who are asking the same questions you are honest, funny, thoughtful, and still very much us. While we’re away, we won’t disappear. We’ll still be around, sharing things on social media, and we’ll be bringing you episodes from the very beginning of Self Care Club so you can relive the journey with us; or discover it if you’re new. Thank you for listening, supporting us, and growing with us. This isn’t goodbye. It’s the start of the next chapter and we genuinely think it’s going to be our best one yet !
