I sat down with the brilliant Charisse Burden-Stelley, aka, Dr. CBS . We packed so much into this interview, including us shooting the shit toward the end a bit, BUT, the more important things that I am so excited for you all to hear are what we have come to know and appreciate Dr. CBS for, and why she is someone I see and feel practices psychic militancy. We discussed her thoughts about anti-communism in the settler colony of the USA, ongoing anti-Blackness, who she has learned from through her career, and the political demands on us, especially as leftists, in this particular moment. Dr. Charisse Burden-Stelly is an Associate Professor of African American Studies at Wayne State University and a 2026-2027 Scholar-in-Residence at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. IN SESSION #19: Imperial and Zionist capture of Blackness with Jamal Williams
I was so excited to be joined by a new comrade and brother, Jamal Williams. Jamal and I met when he reached out to connect about our shared political values in the decrepit and violent psy-disciplines. From our first discussion, I knew we had a LOT to talk about and more importantly, how it felt vital to share Jamal's work and commitments with the larger community. In this discussion we will get into Jamal's view on how imperialism and Zionism have worked hard to "capture" Blackness in a blackmailed relationally of "solidarity", the important community and political organizing Jamal does, the pressures to be anti-Zionist and anti-imperialist on campuses and in the medical world, and our own ongoing struggle for liberation. I am so excited for you to meet him! Jamal Williams is a neuroscientist, professor, and child development activist whose work focuses on ADHD, autism, and broader neurodevelopmental processes in children. Williams critically examines the political economy of health and education systems. His scholarship and advocacy interrogate how universities, healthcare institutions, and nonprofit infrastructures extract value from poor and working-class communities while failing to address the structural conditions that produce inequity. He is particularly concerned with the co-optation of marginalized suffering through what he conceptualizes as the "Health Equity Industrial Complex". Williams also explores how health disparities across Black, immigrant, and rural communities are rooted in shared upstream conditions, like housing insecurity, environmental injustice, labor exploitation, and unequal access to resources — rather than isolated group-level deficits. Williams' broader aim is to reframe conversations about health, development, and justice away from individual outcomes and toward collective conditions, advocating for approaches that prioritize material redistribution, community control, and systemic transformation. Nick Estes: "Our History is the Future" & Revolutionary Certainty
In this episode, I sit down with Nick Estes, our comrade from The Red Nation! We had a lot to talk about, as expected, but I was especially excited to talk to Nick about formative moments in his life that have shaped how he maintains militant alignment with anti-imperialist politics despite the extensive pressures to disidentify from this struggle. We also into his incredible book, "Our History is the Future"; the pitfalls to be aware of as revolutionary energies are siphoned off by systems of power; and, importantly, the commitment to our future as clearly as our present. The conversation felt like a balm, and I hope it wil feel the same to you! Nick Estes is an enrolled member of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe and is an Associate Professor in American Indian Studies at the University of Minnesota. He studies colonialism and global Indigenous histories, focusing on decolonization, oral history, U.S. imperialism, environmental justice, anti-capitalism, and the Oceti Sakowin. Estes is the author of the award-winning book Our History Is the Future: Standing Rock Versus the Dakota Access Pipeline, and the Long Tradition of Indigenous Resistance (2019), which places the Indigenous-led movement to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline into historical context. He co-edited with Jaskiran Dhillon Standing with Standing Rock: Voices from the #NoDAPL Movement (2019), which draws together more than thirty contributors, including leaders, scholars, and activists of the Standing Rock movement, for a reflection of Indigenous history and politics and on the movement's significance. Estes was the American Democracy Fellow at the Charles Warren Center for Studies in History at Harvard University (2017-2018), the Lannan Literary Fellow for non-fiction (2019), and a Marguerite Casey Foundation Freedom Fellow (2020-2021). He is a National Archives Distinguished Scholar at Boston University (2022-2023). IN SESSION #13: Empire's problem with sovereignty with Helyeh Doutaghi, Bikrum Gill & Alex Aviña
Between the so-called Middle-East and Latin America, oh my, we had a lot to talk about how this empire implodes, psychically and otherwise, in the face of sovereign nations refusing to bend to its violence. Who better to help us unpack this than three of the most fierce anti-imperialist comrades I know--all of whom have a lot to say about sovereignty, empire, and, importantly, resistance. Helyeh Doutaghi is scholar of international law and geopolitical economy. Her research explores the intersections of the Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL), encompassing postcolonial critiques of law, sanctions, and international political economy. Dr. Doutaghi's research draws on the mechanisms, harms, and beneficiaries of the sanctions regime imposed on Iran, centering questions of value transfer and wealth drain. Additionally, she is interested in International Humanitarian Law (IHL), having written about its history, practice, and the production of knowledge (and ignorance), particularly in the context of the US military. She was expelled from Yale Law School and the LPE project for speaking up for Palestinian liberation last year. She is currently a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Tehran, where she will focus on completing her manuscript on the Iranian sanctions regime and neoliberalism. Bikrum Gill is a scholar of international political economy, and author of "The Political Ecology of Colonial Capitalism: Race, Nature, and Accumulation", published by Manchester University Press. Alex Aviña is an Associate Professor of History at Arizona State University. He is a historian of Mexico and Latin America.

A Call for Revolutionary Intellectual Alignment with Dr. Ghassan Abu Sittah
This was a livestream collaboration with Psychic Militancy and the Adnan Hussein Show discusses an important document "Toward a Revolutionary Charter for Comprehensive Liberation" released recently that takes an adamant and uncompromising critique of contemporary Arab intelligentsias and calls for a radical realignment against colonial knowledges and with the masses. This is a critical juncture in West Asia; the convulsions of the Gaza genocide, the war on Iran, and the reshaping of its political boundaries, economies and societies in violent colonial war and resistance demand that all social groupings and classes address themselves to revolutionary anticolonial struggle. Adnan and I speak with one of the authors of this radical manifesto, Dr. Ghassan Abu Sittah, the famous Palestinian surgeon, academic, activist, and Rector of Glasgow University in Scotland. We take up the questions of why "pessimism of the intellect" has not been accompanied by "optimist of the will" among the intellectual classes, the manifestations of "defeatist" and comprador thought, and how to revive the courageous role of intellectuals organically in the people's struggle as a resource for liberation. Françoise Vergès: The world is made through struggle
In this episode, I sit down with the incredible Françoise Vergès. We had a beautiful conversation about how the politics of Réunion has animated her life's work, how she was brought up in the struggle alongside the revolutionaries in her family, about her time in Algeria and Paris, decolonial feminisms (of course!), and the centrality of psychic life to our ongoing fight against fascism and oppressive systems. We honestly talked about so so much more, so I am excited for you to hear it! It was such an honor to sit down with a sister-comrade who has shaped so much of my thinking and political orientation to scholarship. Françoise Vergès is a political theorist, curator and writer. She writes on the racist fabrication of premature death, decolonial feminism, the impossible decolonization of the western museum, climate disaster and antiracist, anticapitalist politics of vital needs. She works with artists and curates, since 2015, public performances with artists and activists. She is currently working on a film about anti colonial struggles in Reunion Island through her parents' personal archives and her own. IN SESSION #10: Māori sovereignty & smashing white supremacy with comrades from Aotearoa
In this session I was joined by my comrades Arama Rata, Sina Brown-Davis and Bianca Ranson to talk about the longstanding and ongoing struggle for Māori sovereignty under settler colonial conditions, the struggle against Zionism in Aotearoa, and how they remain focused in the face of settler violence--and so much more. Arama Rata (Taranaki, Ngāruahine, Ngāti Maniapoto) is a Māori researcher, writer, and organiser whose work centres on Indigenous resistance, solidarities, and betrayals. She is a steering group member of foreign policy group Te Kuaka, and a co-founder of community self-defence group Kaiāwhina Aotearoa. Sina Brown-Davis is of Te Roroa, Te Uri-o-Hau, Fale Ula and Vava'u descent. Sina is a long-time activist and commentator on Indigenous rights at local, regional and international forums. She has a lifelong commitment to fighting for the rights of Indigenous peoples , anti Imperialism and building South South solidarity. Sina is currently a gym freak working at the grassroots with community and building bridges and unity between working class and "underclass" communities. Bianca Ranson (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Kahu ki Whangaroa) is an activist and campaigner based on Waiheke Island who has been active in fighting for climate justice and indigenous rights. IN SESSION #8: Boycott & Divestment in Psychoanalysis
In this episode I was joined by psychoanalytic colleagues, Avgi Saktepoulou and Iris Hefets to discuss boycott & divestment from the state now known as Israel and Zionism more broadly--a call that answers the Palestine Global Mental Health Networks call for all psychoanalysts of conscience to resign from the International Psychoanalytic Asociation. This feels like an even more timely conversation considering the currently underway US-Zionist aggression on Iran, the ongoing genocide in Palestine, and the no-existent ceasefire in Lebanon. In addition to BDS in psychoanalysis, we will discuss the institutional demands that we must make as well as interrogate the limits of this approach and all the ways we need to remain engaged in praxis "outside the clinic" so to speak. Originally from Cyprus and from Greece, Dr. Avgi Saketopoulou is a practicing psychoanalyst in NYC on faculty at NYU's Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. She is the author of Sexuality Beyond Consent: Risk, Race, Traumatophilia and co-author, with Ann Pellegrini, of Gender Without Identity. Avgi is the founder of the Cypriot and of the Greek chapters of the Palestine Mental Health Network and a vocally persistent critic of psychoanalysis' silence on the Palestinian genocide. Iris Hefets, works as a Psychoanalyst in Berlin, mainly with PoC-patients that suffer from (transgenerational) traumata in English, German and Hebrew. She was born in Israel and left during the 2nd Intifada for political reasons. She is a member of JVP-Germany. She resigned from the German Psychoanalytic Society/IPA in late 2023, together with another Jewish-Israeli, Palestinian and Turkish colleague due to the racist approach of the German Society they all experienced over the years and especially since the beginning of the Israeli Genocide in Palestine. We discuss the centrality of al-Quds (Jerusalem) in her thinking and in her scholarship, and unpack the ways in which her focus has always been to provide counter-readings that trouble hegemonic knowledge production that positions Palestinians as always-already victims or "disposable". As always, the conversation with Nadera draws on feminist practices of being, despite pressures of erasure, displacement, and dispossession. Nadera Shalhoub-Kervorkian is a leading scholar in the fields of violence against women and the impacts of political violence on childhood, focusing primarily on the experience of Palestinians subject to settler colonial technologies of violence. She received the Women's Rights Prize from the Peter and Patricia Gruber Foundation for her research, which has been supported by more than a dozen foundations. Nadera is currently a visiting professor of gender and sexuality studies at Princeton. She is the Chair of Global Law at the Queen Mary University of London School of Law and is the Lawrence D. Biele Chair in Law-Emeritus at the Faculty of Law-Institute of Criminology and the School of Social Work and Social Welfare at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. I was so excited to be joined by two kickass and unbending comrades and colleagues, both of whom have been fighting the struggle against the violence of Zionism in the academy and beyond. IN SESSION #6: Free Mumia Abu-Jamal brick by brick & wall by wall
This episode is dedicated to political prisoner and revolutionary, Mumia Abu-Jamal, who continues to be unjustly incarcerated and tortured by the violent US carceral machine. Mumia has been incarcerated for more than 44 years and has been continuously punished for his principled stances and unbending political commitments. I was joined by longtime comrade and friend of the show, Jared Ware, Gabe Bryant, and Dr. Ricardo Alvarez. Johanna Fernandez was meant to join us, but when she couldn't, Mumia's consulting physician, Dr. Ricardo Alvarez, joined in. All of them are stalwart organizers in the fight for Mumia's liberation and the conversation was wide-ranging, including analysis about why we must commit to the struggle for liberating all political prisoners. Gabriel Bryant is a Philadelphia-based activist and organizer for Mobilization4Mumia, dedicated to securing the release of imprisoned journalist Mumia Abu-Jamal. Rabab Abdulhadi: The indivisibility of justice from Turtle Island to Palestine
In this episode, I am joined by Dr. Rabab Abdulhadi, a stalwart organizer and professor who has been a fierce mainstay in the movement for the liberation of Palestine for decades. In this episode we get into her history beginning in Nablus, Palestine, and discuss the communal processes, people, and mentors that reared her. To me, Rabab has long been someone who exemplifies what it means to take unbending stances, despite the consequences--and she has absolutely faced very severe consequences. More than anything, I am excited for listeners to meet her as someone with such deep roots in the broader struggle for liberation and not just as someone merely fighting back against Zionist aggression and violence against her as an individual. We discuss her personal history, organizing history, fun anecdotes from growing up, and more. Dr. Rabab Abdulhadi is the founding Director and Senior scholar of Arab and Muslim Ethnicities and Diasporas Studies (AMED) Program at San Francisco State University, the first of its kind in the world, and Principal Investigator of Teaching Palestine: Pedagogical Praxis and the Indivisibility of Justice. She is an internationally-known scholar and distinguished professor who is committed to community development and student engagement alongside her extensive academic work and publication and teaching schedule. She received her BA summa cum Laude in Special Honors Curriculum; Sociology; and Women's Studies at Hunter College-CUNY, and her MA, MPhil and PhD from Yale University where she was awarded the prestigious Sterling Fellowship, a full scholarship, a dissertation fellowship, and the Teaching Excellence award, received for the first time by a Palestinian, Arab or Muslim.
