Marketing Nuggets

Emma Windsor

A weekly podcast for ambitious marketers who are done playing small. It's the honest, behind-the-scenes version of a marketing career. Twelve years of real stories, the award-winning campaigns that started as disasters, the late-night saves, and the epic fails that taught me the most, with the systems and mindset shifts pulled out so you can actually use them.

Every episode sits where the three things that decide how far you go meet: marketing that works, productivity that survives real chaos, and the confidence to back yourself when it counts. Whether you're deep in B2B complexity, chasing B2C creativity, or staring down a week that feels impossible, you'll leave with the pep talk and the practical bit.

Wherever you are, from graduate to director, consider me your marketing mentor and biggest cheerleader, here for the real, messy, brilliant truth about building a career you're genuinely proud of.

Come for the stories. Stay for the strategies that actually work.

169: Where Should Your B2B Budget Go? Choosing Media That Actually Works

Every B2B marketer has stood in front of the same terrifying question: we have this budget... where does it actually go? LinkedIn? Events? Content? PR? Paid search? A bit of everything? (Spoiler: "a bit of everything" is how B2B budgets go to die.) In this episode - a natural follow-on from last week's launch playbook - I'm sharing how I actually make media decisions as a marketing leader. The three questions I ask before any channel earns a single pound, my honest take on the big B2B channels after years of spending real budget on them - LinkedIn, events, email, PR, paid - and the proven-promising-experimental split that stops your budget being spread so thin that nothing works. Fewer channels, done properly, for longer. That's the whole philosophy - and this episode shows you how to choose which ones. 168: The B2B Campaign Playbook Every Marketer Should Steal

It's campaign season. So today you're getting my actual campaign playbook. Not the theoretical version, not something from a textbook, the exact method I use. You'll get the one page I write before a single asset gets built, the four boxes that tell me honestly whether a campaign is ready or just hopeful. The exercise I run to make sure a campaign sounds like nobody else's in the market, and the statement system underneath it. Why I think your people, not your channels, are your most powerful media, and how to activate them properly. The two-phase structure I use that isn't really two phases at all. And the three numbers I put in front of leadership before launch, so the campaign gets judged on the right thing, at the right time. And a quick word to my B2C marketers, because I can feel some of you reaching for the skip button: don't you dare. Yes, today's examples wear a B2B badge, but it may still inspire you to add something into your next campaign. Stay with me. Notebook out. Let's go. 167: What I Learnt Launching Two Campaigns on the Same Day

Two campaigns. One launch window. And no, it wasn't a calendar accident. A wider brand campaign, and an extension that slotted into it. Launching one without the other made no sense for the audience. Launching both together made complete sense strategically, and roughly doubled the work. This episode is the how. How I split one team into two mini teams and gave each only what they needed to know. Why I led one campaign and deliberately handed the other to someone else. The connective work I kept for myself: the unified social plan, the channel-by-channel call on what was genuinely launch day and what could follow, and how both campaigns got their moments without tripping over each other. Plus the one rule I set for my own head that kept me sane through all of it. If your plan ever puts two big things close together, and one day it will, this is the operating manual. The Marketer You Already Are - my online course for ambitious marketers is open now and there’s a whole section dedicated to campaign launch day. 166: Stop Winging Your Big Moments: The Four-Layer Confidence Stack

You spend hours preparing the deck. The data. The talking points. And about four minutes preparing the one thing that actually decides how the moment goes: you. In this episode I'm walking you through the full Confidence Stack - the four-layer preparation framework I use before every moment that matters. A big presentation, a senior leadership meeting, a pitch, a visibility moment. If you heard me apply it to job interviews back in episode 137, this is the complete version for everything else. We're covering the Identity Layer (owning your edge), the Logic Layer (knowing your thinking inside out), the Preparation Layer (removing the unknowns), and the Energy Layer - the one most people skip, and the one that changes everything. You already have the experience. This is how you show up for it. 165: You'll Never Feel Ready - And That's Exactly Why You Should Start

You've been telling yourself you'll go for it when you feel ready. The bigger role. The hand up in the leadership meeting. The idea you've been sitting on for months. Here's the thing nobody tells you: that feeling isn't coming. Not because there's something wrong with you - because that's not how readiness works. Readiness isn't a prerequisite. It's a product. It shows up after you start, never before. In this episode I'm breaking down where the readiness myth comes from, why it hits capable marketers hardest, and the one question swap that gets you moving this week - not "one day". Plus the evidence exercise I use every time I catch myself waiting for permission from a version of me that feels more prepared. If you've been circling something for months waiting for the moment it feels comfortable, this is your sign that the moment is now. 164: Stop Being The Best Kept Secret: The Marketer You Already Are Is Open

I became Head of Marketing before 30. No roadmap. No one showing me the way. And somewhere between the boardrooms, the global campaigns, and the teams I was building from scratch, I realised there were four things nobody had ever taught me. Four areas I had to figure out fast if I wanted to be the marketer my career deserved, my team needed, and the business was asking for. Confidence. Visibility. Strategic thinking. And protecting the time to do all three. I figured them out the hard way. This course is everything I figured out, so you don't have to. The Marketer You Already Are is open. And in this episode I'm telling you exactly who it's for, what it does, and why I genuinely believe it's the thing that changes everything. 163: Stop Playing Small in Your Marketing Career - How to Stop Waiting and Start Claiming

I spent a long time waiting for someone to tell me I was ready. Ready to show up differently. To take on more. To be in the rooms that felt more like me. The stretch project. The seat at the table that felt more like me. And I kept waiting. And doing great work. And waiting a bit more. Until I realised that nobody was coming. Not because I wasn't ready. But because permission was never theirs to give. This episode names the permission trap specifically: why we wait, what we're actually waiting for, and why nobody is coming to give it to us. Not because we don't deserve it. But because it was never theirs to give. If the word 'yet' lives rent-free in your head - not ready yet, not senior enough yet, not quite there yet, this episode is especially for you. You don't need more experience, you need to stop operating like the old version of yourself. The Marketer You Already Are is the complete 5-module system that gives ambitious marketing managers the confidence, strategic thinking, and weekly structure to get noticed and own every room they walk into- grab your spot on the waitlist today: https://www.emmawindsor.com/sign-up Follow me on LinkedIn : https://www.linkedin.com/in/emma-windsor29/ For more episodes visit my website : emmawindsor.com

162: The Mid-Year (ish!) Marketing Check-In - 7 Questions to Get Back on Track

We are seven months into the year. Which means one of two things is true right now. Either you're ahead of where you thought you'd be - which is brilliant and worth pausing to acknowledge. Or something has drifted, slipped, or quietly gone in a different direction to the plan, which is completely normal and also worth pausing to acknowledge. Either way, now is the perfect moment to stop, look up from the execution, and ask yourself the questions that most marketers skip. This episode is your mid-year check-in. Seven questions, an honest conversation, and a clear direction for the next five months. So, grab yourself a coffee, find a quiet corner, and your favourite notebook and let's dive into this together. 161: When You're the Only Marketer in the Room

Finance. Operations. Sales. Senior leadership. There are rooms in every marketing career where you are the only person who thinks the way you think and everyone else wants you to justify, translate, and prove the value of what you do. This episode is about how to do that without losing your perspective, diluting your ideas, or turning into a walking marketing glossary. Because being the only marketer in the room isn't a vulnerability. It's a position. And once you learn how to use it, not just to land your ideas, but to actually listen to the room, you will leave those meetings with better marketing than you walked in with. That's the bit nobody tells you. Until now. If you're ending every week feeling like you did a lot and none of it actually mattered, The Marketer You Already Are is the 5-module career accelerator that gives you the confidence, presence, and systems to finally show up like the senior marketer you already are, join the waitlist now so you're first to know when doors open. https://www.emmawindsor.com/sign-up Follow me on LinkedIn : https://www.linkedin.com/in/emma-windsor29/ For more episodes visit my website : emmawindsor.com

160: The Marketing Feedback You're Not Getting And How to Engineer It Yourself

Nobody tells you this when you start a marketing job: feedback is not guaranteed. You can be working hard, delivering well, showing up consistently and still be operating in almost complete silence about how you're actually landing. No one's telling you what's working. No one's telling you what isn't. And the longer that silence goes on, the more you start filling it with your own worst guesses. This episode is about why feedback disappears - the specific situations that cause it, what that silence is actually costing you, and the four practical ways to engineer the feedback loops that nobody is going to build for you. If The Marketer You Already Are has been on your radar- this episode is a taste of what's inside. The course opens very soon. 159: Comparison Is Killing Your Marketing Confidence - Here's the Fix

Comparison isn't the problem. Reading it wrong is. In this episode, I'm getting into the trap most of us fall into...watching someone else's career, feeling behind, and using their highlight reel to write a story about our own inadequacy. We're naming it, unpicking why it's so addictive, and, most importantly flipping it into something that actually moves you forward. Because that sting you feel when you see the promotion, speaking gig, or shiny new title? It's not a verdict on where you are. It's a compass pointing at what you want. And those are two very different things. If today's episode hit close to home, you might want to get yourself on the waitlist for The Marketer You Already Are. It's the course I've been quietly building for the marketing manager who is more ready than she realises. 158: The Reason Your Best Marketing Days Feel Different, And How to Have More of Them

On your best days at work - the days where you get to your desk, you know exactly what you're doing, you get into flow, you make real progress on things that matter… what's actually different about those days? I'd bet it's not that you had fewer things to do. It's that you had a plan. You knew what you were protecting. You were in control of your time instead of your time being in control of you. In this episode I'm unpacking the one philosophy shift that sits underneath every productivity system, morning routine and to-do list hack I've ever shared on this podcast. The thing that, when you finally get it, changes not just how you work, but how you feel at the end of every single day. This isn't about doing more. It's not about doing less. It's about something far more fundamental than either of those things. The Marketer You Already Are - I'm building a course for ambitious marketing managers. 157: The Six Questions Senior Marketers Ask - That Most Marketers Never Think To

Over a decade in marketing and I can tell you the exact moment I stopped being the person who delivered the update and became the person who shaped the direction. It wasn't a promotion. It wasn't a big campaign win. It was the questions I started asking. Most marketing managers are answering questions they should be asking. And that one shift - from answering to asking, is what separates the people who execute the plan from the people who shape it. The good news? There's a version of you that walks into every meeting and immediately changes the quality of the conversation. She's not more experienced than you. She's not more senior than you. She's just asking six different questions. In this episode, I'm sharing exactly what those questions are. Questions I've collected over twelve years of watching the best strategic thinkers in the rooms I've been in. The questions that don't just make you look senior. They make you think senior. And you don't need a new title to start asking them. You need this episode. The Marketer You Already Are - I'm building a course for ambitious marketing managers. 156: How Ambitious Marketers Break Out of Execution Mode and Start Leading

One day, about 5 years into my career, my manager pulled me aside and said something that stung for days. "Emma, you're excellent at executing what's in front of you. But I need you to start thinking about what should be in front of you." I went a away defensive. I thought I was doing everything right. But she'd spotted something I couldn't see yet, something I now call the Identity Lag. The gap between the marketer you're actually capable of being, and the one you're currently showing up as. In this episode, I'm unpacking what the Identity Lag is, why it hits the most capable marketers hardest, and the one question that starts to close it. No jargon. Just the reframe that I wish someone had handed me five years earlier. If you've ever finished a day doing a lot and felt like nothing actually moved forward, this one is for you. 155: You're Already in the Right Rooms. Are You Owning Them?

Here's something nobody puts in a job description. The signals you send before you open your mouth. Where you sit. How you hold yourself when someone else is speaking. The pace you speak at when you finally do. These things are being read by every room you walk into and most of us have no idea what they're saying. In this episode, I'm talking about the physical and strategic language of authority, the signals that tell a room who you are before content has even started. And the thing I really want you to hear: you don't develop presence the day after you get promoted. You build it now. In the meetings you're already in. If you've been waiting for the title before you start showing up like you already deserve it, this one's your permission slip. Something is coming. 154: The Three Presence Myths That Are Keeping You Invisible

You've watched someone own a room and told yourself: they're just naturally like that. I used to believe that too. Until I figured out that what I was watching wasn't personality. It was something else entirely. In this episode, I'm dismantling the three biggest myths about presence. The ones that keep brilliant, experienced marketers invisible in exactly the rooms where they need to be seen. Because presence isn't something you're born with. It's something you build. And the building starts in the rooms you're already in. If you've ever left a meeting feeling like you left your best thinking in the car park, this one's for you. Something is coming. 153: When It All Goes Wrong: The Marketer's Guide to Bouncing Back

Something went wrong. It doesn't matter what - a campaign that tanked, a presentation that died in the room, feedback that landed harder than you expected, a decision that turned out to be the wrong one. It happened publicly. And now you have to figure out what to do next. Not the debrief. Not the lessons learned. The other thing… the emotional reset that nobody talks about and nobody teaches you. In this episode I'm sharing the four-step recovery protocol I use when something knocks me flat in my marketing career and why the way you bounce back from hard moments matters just as much as how you show up for the good ones. 152: The Three Conversations Every Marketing Manager Gets Wrong (And How to Get Them Right)

There are three conversations that happen in every marketing manager's month. And most of us have been quietly getting all three of them wrong, not because we're bad at our jobs, but because nobody ever taught us what the high-stakes version of each one actually looks like. In this episode I'm walking through the three moments where marketing managers shrink most consistently and giving you a specific, practical framework for each one. This isn't about confidence tips. It's about knowing exactly what to say and how to say it, so the next time one of these moments arrives you're not winging it. Something is coming. 151: Imposter Syndrome: Why I Hate the Phrase (And What To Do Instead)

I've heard the phrase "imposter syndrome" probably a thousand times in my career. And every time, I hate it. Not because the feeling isn't real, but because I think the label is making us more stuck, not less. In this episode I'm getting into why I hate the phrase, what's actually going on when that self-doubt shows up, and the one question swap that changes how you respond to it. Plus the specific ways it shows up in marketing careers and what to actually do when it hits. If you've ever second-guessed whether you deserve the role you're in, or felt like everyone else has it figured out except you, this episode is for you. 150: Feeling Stuck With Your Marketing? Here's What to Do Next

If your marketing role has started to feel a bit... comfortable, then this episode is your nudge. Sometimes feeling stuck in your marketing career isn't about burnout or losing motivation, it's a sign you're ready for something more. And in this episode, I'm talking about the thing that's moved the needle for me more than almost anything else in twelve years as a general marketer: deliberately learning something new. I'm sharing the real stories - from teaching myself Google Ads on a free course and a £250 budget, scaling it to £2,500 with real ROI behind it, to the HubSpot moment that made me realise I had a blindspot I couldn't ignore any longer and exactly how to start stretching yourself without overwhelming yourself. Whether you want to learn a new channel, develop a new skill, or simply start thinking at a higher level in your current role, this episode will show you how to make it actually happen. If you've been playing it safe in your marketing for a little longer than you want to, this episode is for you!
