Webinar #293: Dr Sharon Dirckx - Am I more than my Brain?

Recorded on 16 April 2026 for ICMDA Webinars. Dr Peter Saunders chairs a webinar with Dr Sharon Dirckx Modern research is uncovering more and more detail of what our brain is and how it works. We are living, thinking creatures who carry around with us an amazing organic supercomputer in our heads. But what is the relationship between our brains and our minds-and ultimately our sense of identity as a person? Are we more than machines? Is free-will an illusion? Do we have a soul? Brain scientist Sharon Dirckx lays out the current understanding of who we are from biologists, philosophers, theologians and psychologists, and points towards a bigger picture, that suggests answers to the fundamental questions of our existence. Not just "What am I?", but "Who am I?" - and "Why am I?" Sharon Dirckx is a speaker and author whose work focuses on responding to the spiritual and faith-related questions that people ask today. She is motivated to show how and why the person of Jesus Christ remains as relevant as ever to the pertinent questions of our time, and to do so in an engaging way. Originally from a scientific background, she has a PhD in brain imaging from the University of Cambridge. Sharon is invited to speak and lecture across the UK and internationally, in workplaces, universities, schools, churches and conferences. Webinar #292 David Oliver - Journeying through grief

Recorded on 9 April 2026 for ICMDA Webinars. Dr Peter Saunders chairs a webinar with David Oliver ‘When Gill and I faced our own loss, we found that grief didn't follow any neat pattern. It wasn't something to get over! It came in unstoppable, irrepressible, unwelcome, uninvited waves. However, gradually we began to experience that even in the darkest of places God's light could be found. I want to help people understand that grief isn't a problem to solve, is not a location to ‘move on’ from, it's a journey to walk through.’ Drawn from David’s latest book, All About Grief, this webinar explores how we can live through the darkest moments of loss without losing hope, comfort those who mourn and equip those who care. David Oliver is a speaker and author, and has ministered to over 400,000 people in churches and organizations including Focus on the Family, Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Care for The Family, New Wine, and Spring Harvest. He has written 15 books including, All About Grief, All About Heaven, Work Prison or Place of Destiny, and Find Your Voice. David is based in the Salt and Light family of churches where he serves internationally in a prophetic capacity. David and Gill have been married for 50 years with four children and five grandchildren, they have been church leaders in the UK, for 50 years, with a speaking ministry both in the UK and internationally.
