Ep. 11: Why Food Restriction Leads to Food Obsession | Faith-Led Habits

Why Restriction Creates Preoccupation With Food | Faith-Led Habits Why does food seem to take up more mental space the harder you try to control it? If you're constantly thinking about what you can eat, battling cravings, feeling guilty after eating, or struggling with the cycle of restriction and overeating, this episode is for you. In this episode of Faith-Led Habits, we're exploring the behavioral science and physiology behind food preoccupation, including how calorie restriction, rigid food rules, hunger, and guilt can influence your relationship with food. As a fitness coach and board-certified behavior analyst, I'm breaking down why increased restriction doesn't always lead to better consistency, how perfectionism and body image can influence our eating behaviors, and practical ways to build a healthier approach to nutrition. We'll also look at food and fitness through a biblical lens, exploring self-control, stewardship, and the difference between caring for the body God has entrusted to us and tying our identity to our appearance. In this episode, we cover: Why restricting certain foods can make them harder to stop thinking about How calorie deficits and hunger influence food preoccupation The restriction, overeating, and guilt cycle When discipline and perfectionism begin shaping your relationship with food Practical strategies for building flexibility around eating What Scripture teaches us about self-control, stewardship, and identity You can pursue your body composition goals while building a healthier relationship with food and keeping your identity rooted in Christ. Scripture references: Psalm 139:14, Galatians 5:22–23, 1 Corinthians 6:12. Ep. 10: What Does it Mean to Abide? | Christ-Centered Fitness

What does it actually mean to abide in Christ? In this episode of Faith-Led Habits, we're studying John 15:1–11 to understand what Jesus meant when He said, “I am the vine; you are the branches.” As a fitness coach and board-certified behavior analyst, I've spent years helping women build better habits, develop discipline, and improve their health. Lately, it's been weighing on my heart that something is missing when we focus only on changing behaviors without addressing the foundation underneath them. In this Scripture study, we'll explore what it means to remain in Christ, why spiritual fruitfulness depends on Him, and how abiding influences our approach to fitness, food, work, motherhood, and everyday decisions. We'll also examine the difference between pursuing discipline and making achievement our identity, the role of obedience in our relationship with Christ, and what it looks like to let God's Word shape the way we live. If you're ready to build healthy habits on a foundation rooted in Christ, you'll find more about The ABIDE Collective in the link below Connect with me: 🌿 Website: https://betterhabitsbybritt.com 📲 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/abidewithbritt 📧 Email: brittnay@betterhabitsbybritt.com If this episode encouraged you, be sure to follow Faith-Led Habits, leave a review, and share it with a friend.

Ep 9: Why You Keep Breaking Promises to Yourself & How to Fix It

Why do you keep telling yourself you’re going to do something… and then not follow through? You’re going to work out consistently. You’re going to eat better. You’re going to get to bed earlier. You’re going to spend more time in the Word. You genuinely mean it when you make the promise. So why is it so hard to actually keep it? In this episode of Faith-Led Habits, we’re getting into the behavior science behind consistency, self-discipline, and why repeatedly breaking promises to yourself can take such an emotional toll. I’m sharing a season of my own life where I constantly put myself last—and how I eventually realized that the issue wasn't simply that I needed to “try harder.” There were setting events, environmental factors, patterns, and reinforcement influencing my behavior. We’re breaking down: What setting events are and how they influence your behavior before you even realize it • Why being exhausted, stressed, hungry, overwhelmed, or overcommitted can make certain behaviors much more likely • The difference between setting events, antecedents, behaviors, and consequences • Why knowing what to do doesn't automatically mean you'll do it • How immediate rewards like relief, comfort, or avoidance can reinforce behaviors you want to change • Why repeatedly breaking promises to yourself can slowly erode self-trust • How shame turns a behavior into an identity • Why making bigger promises usually isn't the answer • How to create smaller, more realistic commitments that you can actually keep • How to build a plan for the inevitable interruptions and imperfect days • Why consistency is less about never messing up and more about learning how to return to the behavior • How faith changes the way we approach discipline, health, and stewardship And we'll talk about why I created Abide, my new 1:1 coaching program for women who want to build sustainable health habits, develop real discipline, and care for their bodies without making fitness their identity. Referenced Scripture: John 15:5 If you're tired of making the same promises to yourself over and over, this episode will help you stop looking at your behavior as a character flaw and start understanding the pattern behind it. Ep: 8: Is It Vain to Want to Look Good as a Christian Woman? | Faith, Fitness & Body Image

Is it vain for Christian women to care about their appearance, lose body fat, build muscle, or want to look good? In this episode of Faith-Led Habits, we’re exploring the difference between caring for your body and worshipping your body. We’ll unpack what Scripture says about physical training, stewardship, beauty, vanity, body image, and identity—and why wanting to improve your physique isn’t automatically a spiritual problem. You can love God, know your worth comes from Him, and still have aesthetic goals. This episode is for the Christian woman who wants to feel strong, confident, and healthy without allowing her appearance to become the source of her worth, peace, or identity. Ep. 7: How to Break the Restriction–Overeating Cycle | Food Freedom & Self-Control

Are you stuck in the cycle of restricting food, overeating, feeling guilty, and trying to compensate the next day? In this episode of Faith-Led Habits, we’re talking about how to actually break the restriction–overeating cycle and build a healthier relationship with food. You’ll learn why compensating after overeating keeps the cycle going, how eating enough and practicing flexibility can change your behavior, and why understanding the triggers behind emotional eating matters more than simply trying harder. We’ll also explore biblical self-control, food freedom, and what it means to pursue your health without becoming a slave to food. If you’re a Christian woman who wants to pursue fat loss, better health, and sustainable habits without the constant food guilt and restriction, this episode is for you. Do you keep telling yourself you just need more discipline? What if the problem isn't your motivation, your willpower, or your ability to follow through? In this episode of Faith-Led Habits, we're unpacking one of the biggest myths in health and wellness: the belief that successful women struggle with healthy habits because they lack discipline. When you understand the science behind your habits, you stop seeing yourself as the problem and start seeing a path forward.
