Trump to pick Iran leader? | Robotic surgery success
Today marks the seventh day of the Iran war, with Israel saying it will launch a “broad” wave of air strikes against targets and has told people living in parts of Beirut in Lebanon to evacuate. Donald Trump says he needs to be involved in choosing the next leader of Iran and has dismissed one of the people tipped to take over, the son of Ali Khamenei, as a “lightweight”. Trump has also sacked his head of homeland security, Kristi Noem. New ground in Iran war | Obesity jabs scrutinised
The war in the Middle East enters its sixth day today, and the conflict has reached new ground. A ballistic missile fired from Iran heading into Turkish airspace was shot down, the Turkish defence ministry has said. This came before Pete Hegseth, the US secretary of defence, confirmed a US submarine sunk an Iranian warship off Sri Lanka. The husband of a Labour MP is one of three men arrested by the Metropolitan Police on Wednesday on suspicion of spying for China. Pressure on the US Justice Department to be more transparent with the release of documents that come under the Epstein files is increasing, as some 50,000 "missing files" are set to be released this week. Delcy Rodriguez, Venezuela's interim president, has confirmed the US will be involved in developing the mining industry in the country. Trump lashes out at Starmer | Death of children's TV?
Donald Trump has claimed Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is "no Churchill". Trump said he was "not happy with the UK" over its "shocking" decision to not allow the US to use its military base on Diego Garcia in the Chagos Islands for the initial strikes against Iran. The Israeli military says it has started a "broad wave of strikes" in Iran overnight, marking the fifth day since the conflict in the Middle East began. The government will halt visa routes for nationals from four countries who the home secretary says have "abused" the UK's generosity. The US and Israel's war on Iran is entering its fourth day, as strikes from both sides continue following the death of Iran’s supreme leader on Saturday. Tehran has threatened to burn down any ships that pass through the Strait of Hormuz, while Marco Rubio has said “the hardest hits are yet to come from the US military”. A potential dispute looks to be brewing between Donald Trump and Sir Keir Starmer after the PM appeared to criticise the attacks, saying the government "does not believe in regime change from the skies". Thirty local councils face a scramble to organise elections in less than three months’ time after the latest government U-turn.
