Catch Ups In My Kitchen

Catch Up Productions

This podcast is about all things food, health and wellness! Host Georgia Symonds welcomes a new guest into her kitchen every week in order to discuss their journey to wellness in whatever capacity that may be!

We believe that food isn’t just the fuel that we put into our bodies, it’s more than that, it brings families and friends together, it creates special moments and life time memories. It affects how we perform, how we think, how we sleep and how we feel in ourselves inside and out.

Therefore Catch Ups In My Kitchen aims to dig into personal stories and careers to discuss how food has had an impact on one's life. We aim for you to finish an episode having learnt some new healthy habits which you can implement into your everyday in order to be that 1% better than the day before!

E.205 Being Healthier Starts with Being Kinder to Yourself with Sarah Ann Macklin

In My Kitchen this week, I am joined by nutritionist, author and podcast host Sarah Ann Macklin. Sarah is the author of Healthy Shouldn't Be This Hard and host of the Live Well Be Well podcast. In this episode, we explore an area of health and wellbeing that has never been discussed on the podcast before: self-compassion. Many of us spend our lives setting unrealistic expectations for ourselves. We commit to diets that are impossible to sustain, sign up for challenges that are far beyond our current capabilities, and then criticise ourselves when we inevitably fall short. Yet we would never speak to a friend the way we speak to ourselves. So why do we do it? Sarah explains why being kinder to yourself might be one of the most powerful health interventions available. We discuss how modern culture has conditioned us to constantly compare ourselves to others, chase optimisation at every opportunity, and measure our worth against an impossible standard. The result? Disappointment, burnout and a feeling that we're never doing enough. We also explore the connection between mindset, stress, nervous system health and physical wellbeing, and why sometimes the healthiest thing you can do is stop trying to be perfect. In this episode, we discuss: Why healthy living often feels so hard in today's world The inspiration behind Healthy Shouldn't Be This Hard How self-talk influences our physical and mental health Why negative thoughts have a stronger impact than positive ones Practical ways to develop a more compassionate inner voice The morning habits that can shape the rest of your day Whether manifestation can be applied to health and nutrition goals Confidence, body image and why appearance doesn't always reflect happiness My personal journey of realising that stress and nervous system regulation may be the missing piece of my own health puzzle Why stress can contribute to symptoms such as bloating and digestive discomfort Simple strategies to support and regulate your nervous system The surprising health benefits of meaningful social connection This conversation challenged many of my own beliefs around health and wellbeing and reminded me that perhaps the healthiest version of ourselves isn't the most disciplined, productive or optimised, it's the one that treats itself with the most compassion. In my kitchen this week I’m joined by the Co-Founders of Absolute Collagen, Maxine and Darcy Laceby, to talk about the journey of building one of the UK’s leading collagen brands from the ground up. Founded in 2015, Absolute Collagen was created long before collagen became the wellness buzzword we know today. Absolute Collagen is expert backed, it has been peer-reviewed and placebo-controlled which in today's environment is an important point to note. We talk about entrepreneurship, taking risks, building a brand with purpose, and why investing in yourself and your wellbeing matters at every age. E.199 Brain Health, Neuroscience and Productivity

In my kitchen this week I am joined by Anne Sophie Flury who is a neuroscientist to talk all about brain health, how to re-wire your brain, and simple, practical things you can do to stimulate your brain and become your most proactive and productive self. I love talking about brain health, but in this episode we take a slightly different approach. Rather than focusing on supplements or quick fixes to optimise your brain, this conversation is all about the everyday actions and habits that truly make a difference. The small shifts that, over time, can completely transform the way you think, feel, and show up in your life. We dive into why brain health is so important, not just for focus or productivity, but for your overall sense of control and wellbeing. Because when you are in control of your thoughts, you are ultimately in control of your actions… and that shapes your future and your destiny. This episode really hit home for me and honestly shocked me on many fronts. It challenged a lot of the ways I think about productivity and what it actually means to use our brains well in today’s world. We discuss topics such as the power of monotasking over multitasking, how constant stimulation (especially from AI and technology) may actually be leaving our brains under-stimulated, and why the lost art of being bored might be exactly what your brain needs to reset, grow, and optimise. This is a conversation that will make you rethink your habits and hopefully inspire you to make small but powerful changes to support your brain health long-term. Topics we discuss: What it means to train your brain Mono-tasking over multi-tasking Constant stimulation and how that impacts our brain The rise in AI and the impact on the brain Sleep and the impact on our brain Monks and their practices How to re-wire your brain Sponsors: Healthy Habits - Try mouth tape today and get 20% off your first purchase with code CATCHUPS20 click here This episode was hosted and produced by Georgia Symonds Georgia’s Instagram - click here! E.195 Fish Oils; why you need them and which ones to take with Melanie Lawson Founder of Bare Biology

In my kitchen this week I am joined by Melanie Lawson, founder of Bare Biology, a British supplement brand known for its high-quality omega-3 fish oils and marine-based supplements. Melanie launched Bare Biology after struggling to find a fish oil she trusted while navigating postnatal depression and OCD. Frustrated by the lack of transparency around sourcing, purity and potency in the supplement industry, she set out to create the kind of product she wished existed, as at that time she was sourcing hers from the states. Melanie wanted one that prioritised sustainably sourced ingredients, high therapeutic levels of omega-3, and rigorous third-party testing. What began as a personal mission has grown into a respected UK wellness brand with a loyal following among nutritional therapists and health practitioners. In this episode, Melanie shares the story behind creating Bare Biology, we focus in particular on fish oils, why omega-3 fatty acids are so important for overall health, and why the quality, purity and source of the fish used can make such a difference when it comes to choosing a supplement. Melanie explains what to look for on labels, why potency matters, and how sustainably sourced oils can provide higher levels of beneficial EPA and DHA. Beyond fish oils, we also discuss the supplements Melanie believes can be most beneficial alongside a healthy diet, including vitamin D and magnesium, and what she considers to be the core foundations when it comes to supporting your body nutritionally. Finally, Melanie speaks openly about her own health journey, from living with OCD for much of her life to her more recent ADHD diagnosis and how she has built and run a successful business while navigating these challenges. It’s an honest and inspiring conversation about resilience, entrepreneurship and the importance of supporting both physical and mental wellbeing. Topics we discuss: Mel's story to starting Bare Biology Growing organically in a fast paced indsutry How to assess the quality of the supplements your taking The importance of a high quality fish oil The staple supplements most people should take Mel's biggest bug bare in the supplement industry The power of Vitamin D The power of Creatine Living with ADHD Getting your diet right and what that means Sponsors: Healthy Habits - Try mouth tape today and get 20% off your first purchase with code CATCHUPS20 click here This episode was hosted and produced by Georgia Symonds Georgia’s Instagram - click here!
