506 | Every Woman Should Live Alone Atleast Once | What Living Alone Taught Me About Myself: Redefining Independence, and Making Room for the Right Kind of Love

In this episode, Tyra is reflecting on one of the most transformative chapters of her life: living alone. After five years in her apartment, she reflects on how having a space that is completely her own has taught her more than just independence. It’s taught her what she likes, what she needs, what she won’t compromise on, and what she actually wants from a partner. Because the goal of living alone isn’t to prove that you don’t need anybody. It’s to know that you can take care of yourself and still want somebody to do life with. Tyra also talks about dating while living alone, the “single tax,” hyper-independence, and why knowing yourself before sharing your life with someone else can change everything. This week’s Affirmation is: “I trust myself to build a life that feels good to me.” 3 Biggest Takeaways Living alone teaches you who you are. When you’re not constantly accommodating someone else, you get the space to discover your preferences, routines, boundaries, and what genuinely makes your life feel good. Independence doesn’t mean you don’t want partnership. You can know you’re fully capable of taking care of yourself and still want someone to share life with. The goal isn’t to need nobody—it’s to choose someone because they add to the life you’ve already built. Partnership should require compromise, not self-abandonment. Knowing yourself makes it easier to recognize what you’re willing to compromise on and what you’re not. You should be able to build a life with someone without losing the person you became on your own. 504 | What You, Me, & Tuscany Taught Me About Love..

Have you ever watched a movie and realized it wasn’t just entertaining you… it was reflecting parts of your own life back to you? In today’s episode, Tyra shares the love lessons she took away from You Me and Tuscany, from realizing that love should feel safe and peaceful, to understanding that the right love doesn’t require you to become someone else to receive it. This conversation is a reminder that love isn’t just about being chosen… it’s also about choosing what truly aligns with you. This week’s Affirmation is: “I deserve a love that feels safe.” 3 Biggest Takeaways Love that’s meant for you won’t constantly leave you confused or emotionally exhausted The right love allows you to be fully yourself, not a performance version of who you think you need to be Attraction alone isn’t enough. Celebrating Our Lost Loved Ones Through The Power of 'Good Grief': Navigating Grief with Grace, Embracing Healing and Positivity, & Honoring Legacy and Cherished Memories | REWIND

In today's Rewind Episode, we revist when Tyra experienced a great loss, the matriarch of her family, Grandma Willie Mae. She talks about the powerful journey of navigating grief and embracing healing in this heartfelt episode. This week’s affirmation is: “My Life is Beautiful and worth being lived to its fullness.” Biggest Takeaways: Honoring Life's Fullness: Tyra emphasizes that grief isn't solely tied to the loss of a loved one. It's a complex emotion that can arise from various life experiences, including the passing of cherished dreams and societal challenges. Affirmations as Tools of Resilience: In times of grief, Tyra introduces the affirmation "My Life is Beautiful and worth being lived to its fullness." She explores how affirmations act as tools for resilience, helping us reframe our perspectives and navigate the healing process. Through this lens, we can find beauty in the midst of pain, and by acknowledging the challenges, we pave the way for transformation. Embracing the Journey of Healing: Tyra emphasizes that grief is both a challenging and beautiful journey. It's a process that requires time, self-compassion, and a willingness to lean into the emotions that come with loss. By understanding that healing is not linear and that "good grief" is possible, we can emerge from grief with a deeper sense of self and a renewed appreciation for life's most meaningful moments. 503 | Girl to Girl… Love Will Find You Soon

Girl to girl… I hope the love you pray for finds you soon. Not the surface-level kind. Not the kind that looks good but leaves you confused. I’m talking about the kind of love that lets you exhale. The kind that feels steady, safe, and certain. The kind that doesn’t make you question how you show up. In this episode, Tyra is having a real, honest conversation about being in the in-between — that space where you’re no longer going back to what hurt you, but you haven’t yet stepped into the love you desire. This week’s Affirmation is: “I will not sabatoge what I prayed for.” Tyra opens up about: Letting go of “almost” and “potential” Why going backwards is not an option when God already pulled you out The difference between love and emotional attachment How inconsistency creates confusion (and why that’s not love) Trusting that your heart isn’t “too much”—it’s intentional Community Connection Links Sign up for the Community Newsletter!: www.tyrathecreative.com/podcast Join the AFBG Book Club: https://tyrathecreative.myflodesk.com/xkz6bzvn29 Shop the AFBG Merch!: http://tyrathecreative.com/merch Letters From Listeners Form: https://forms.gle/yqwdsBuRBjXQm9Xw7 Subscriber Survey: https://forms.gle/m4AD2YaYbGhd8gEv6 Resources Shop Tyra’s Favorites: https://www.amazon.com/shop/tyrathecreative Here’s a free trial of ClassPass (with 20 bonus credits!): https://shop.tyrathecreative.com/classpass Listen to Lofi Beats for Deep Focus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfBhamgkCww&t=2222s Defeating Doubt Playlist https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/defeating-doubt/pl.u-PDb408VtJyb1Po Wanna give therapy a try? 502 | God Won't Allow Me to Settle For Less

Have you ever tried to make something work so badly… only for it to fall apart anyway? In this episode, Tyra talks about the uncomfortable but necessary truth: sometimes the reason it didn’t work out is because God wouldn’t let you settle. Whether it’s relationships that almost made it, opportunities that looked good on paper, friendships that slowly faded, or spaces that felt “good enough” but not aligned — this conversation is about divine disruption. The closed doors. The redirection. The feeling of “why is this so hard?” When you’re just trying to make something stick. This week’s Affirmation is: “God, raise my standards to match Your promises.” Tyra unpacks: The difference between contentment and settling Trusting redirection, even when it bruises your ego Letting go of “almost” in order to receive alignment If you’ve been frustrated because nothing mediocre seems to last in your life… maybe that’s the point. This episode is your reminder that not everything that leaves is a loss. Sometimes it’s protection. Sometimes it’s preparation. And sometimes… it’s proof that you’re called to more. 501 | 1 Month Ago, My Life Changed Forever..

In this episode, Tyra is giving y’all a real life update and sharing where she's been. She's officially a new dog mom...again! What she thought would simply be “aww, cuddles and companionship” has turned into responsibility, structure, interrupted sleep, emotional growth, and a whole new level of self-awareness. Tyra needed companionship. She needed something to nurture. What she didn’t expect was how much it would stretch her. We’re talking about: The shock of sudden responsibility How your life really changes when someone depends on you The identity shift that comes with becoming a caregiver Why companionship sometimes comes with growing pains Learning to adjust when the blessing feels overwhelming This episode is honest. It’s tender. It’s a little “what did I just do?” and a lot of “okay… we’re growing.” If you’re in a season where your life just shifted, whether it’s a new pet, new relationship, new job, new city, or a new version of yourself, this conversation is for you. Because sometimes the answered prayer is also the stretching season. Season 5: Do You Really Trust God? Releasing Fear & Control, Learning to Trust FULLY, and Entering your Alignment Era Because What God Has For You is Greater than your Plans.

What happens when you have faith in your prayers… but fear in your posture? 2026 marks Season 5 of the Affirmations for Black Girls Podcast, and this year feels different. Last season was about stepping into “Big Deal” energy — moving boldly, raising standards, and owning every room. But this season? It’s about what happens after the confidence. It’s about releasing control. After realizing she was carrying faith in her prayers but fear in her posture, Tyra is entering a new era — one rooted in alignment, surrender, and deeper trust in God’s timing. This season explores high-functioning anxiety, Type A tendencies, the pressure of personal timelines, and the quiet fear of “what if it doesn’t happen for me?” It’s about believing that what God has planned isn’t smaller than your dreams — it’s exceedingly, abundantly above them. No more gripping the wheel. No more negotiating with God. No more mistaking control for responsibility. Season 5 is about being anchored — in faith, in identity, and in the truth that what’s meant for you will never miss you. This year, we’re not forcing. We’re aligning. This isn’t a season of passivity. It’s a season of obedience. Of surrender and of deeper trust. 449 | Why are You Playing Small? It’s Time to Embrace Your Boldness: Why You Deserve to Take Up Space, Feel Seen, and Be Heard

Playing small is costly, and this episode is your permission slip to stop shrinking, stop apologizing for your brilliance, and step fully into your boldness. Tyra breaks down what it means to take up space, trust your value, and carry Big Deal Energy into 2026. If you’re ready to step fully into your life, show up unapologetically, and leave behind hesitation and self-doubt, this episode serves as your roadmap. This week’s Affirmation is: “I am the main character in my story.” 3 Biggest Takeaways Taking up space starts with YOU: You can’t expect the world to see your worth if you don’t first honor your own presence. Boldness isn’t always loud: Sometimes it’s internal, quiet, and about choosing yourself even when no one is clapping. Imposter syndrome can’t stop you: Name it, document your wins, reframe failure, and visualize yourself confidently taking up space. 446 | How to Actually Fall in Love With Your Life: The Practical Guide to Romanticizing the Everyday

Are you ready to start falling in love with your life exactly as it is? In this episode, Tyra breaks down the practical, realistic ways to romanticize your everyday and find joy in the ordinary. No marble countertops, no perfect aesthetic, just intentional moments that make your life feel softer, richer, and more yours. Whether you’re single, building your career, or just craving a little more delight in your daily life, this episode will guide you toward creating a life that truly loves you back. This week’s Affirmation is: “I deserve a life that FEELS good.” 3 Biggest Takeaways Romance is a skill, not an aesthetic: Not about trends or perfection, it’s about paying attention and savoring tiny moments. Micro-rituals transform routines into joy: Small, intentional acts—lighting a candle, playing your favorite song, savoring coffee—reset your nervous system and elevate your mood. Your life is rich and worthy of love right now: You don’t need anyone or anything else to validate it. Presence, intention, and gratitude are the keys to falling in love with your everyday. 445 | Living Far Away From Home: Redefining What “Home” Means When You’ve Outgrown It | Feeling Disconnected This Holiday Season

Have you ever felt like you’ve outgrown your hometown, but still carry it in your heart? In this episode, Tyra reflects on the delicate balance of loving where you’re from while stepping into who you’re becoming. From creating home moments in new spaces to redefining traditions and embracing growth, she shares personal stories, lessons learned, and practical ways to feel connected even when you’re far from home. This week’s Affirmation is: “It is safe for me to outgrow what once felt familiar.” 3 Biggest Takeaways Reflection is a form of self-respect: acknowledging your roots while making space for who you’re becoming. Growth often requires leaving comfort behind, and that’s okay. Outgrowing a place doesn’t mean abandoning it. Home is a feeling, not a zip code, it can live in memories, traditions, and the life you intentionally build for yourself. Why do so many Black women get told their pain is “normal” when it’s anything but? In this episode, Tyra sits down with pelvic floor therapist Dr. Janelle Frederick to break down the symptoms so many of us have been taught to ignore — from chronic cramps to painful intimacy to stress responses we don’t even realize we’re carrying. 442 | Am I a Good Friend?? Friendship Lessons: Growing, Letting Go, and Showing Up

Are you truly a good friend? Answer honestly. In this episode, Tyra dives into the complexities of friendship, how to evaluate your role, grow from evolving connections, and intentionally cultivate meaningful bonds. She shares personal stories about childhood friends, new friendships in adulthood, and the lessons she’s learned about showing up and keeping your side of the street clean. This week’s Affirmation is: “I am open to giving and receiving the kind of friendship that feels like home.” 3 Biggest Takeaways Friendships have levels and seasons—acquaintances, seasonal friends, core/inner circle, mirror friends, and distant friends—and understanding these helps you navigate your energy and expectations. Being a good friend starts with self-reflection: emotional availability, consistency, honesty, reciprocity, and accountability. The small, surface-level debates (splitting the check, RSVPs, birthdays) matter less than being intentional, communicative, and showing up authentically.
