https://stand.fm/channels/64bb9905b352effb9d326b69

  • Herm's House Podcast

    Herm’s House Podcast | Season 4 - Episode 4 | Longtime Listener, First-Time Caller

Welcome to HER’s house. (Herm’s words, not ours.) This is a special one: our producer, Alexander Ward, is a brand new dad, so we pulled him out from behind the screens and onto the show for an episode of new-dad advice from two people who have done this five times — the oldest ones with teenage parents learning on the fly, and Gordy with the retired, slightly more figured-out versions. First, the update: mom is healing great, the baby mostly chills, and Alexander knows he got lucky. Which is exactly why we had to warn him: do not let that easy first baby fool you. The second one is the Tasmanian devil. (Or Stitch, for the younger crowd.) We get into the moment it gets real for dads, why your only job for the first few months is taking care of mom, and Alexander’s game plan, which is honestly perfect: “Tag me in, coach.” Then the stories come out. Kristin’s skin-to-skin moment with a brand new Gordy did not go the way the brochures describe, Herm cut an umbilical cord with his eyes half closed, and we retell the great coffee run: told the baby was hours away, Herm stepped out for coffee, and got THE call in the hospital basement. He made it back. Barely. Alexander also gets his official Football Minute assignment: the football movies his son is required to watch, in order, by age — starting with Little Giants. Then he asks the big question: after five kids, what’s the one thing you wish you’d known? Herm says he’d have had them all at 30. Kristin says slow down and live in the nuance. And Gordy? Gordy crashes the episode to show off his missing teeth, because of course he does. If you’ve got advice we missed, Alexander is reading the comments. Help us raise this man’s baby. 🏃 HERM’S HOUSE HERO WALK — SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7 Our 11-mile walk honoring veterans, benefiting Hero Breakfast, Inc.
