The Lord is Generous Beyond Our Expectations - One Minute With Bishop Burbidge
Far too often we delay what matters most—putting aside growth in faith, important decisions, and even simple acts of kindness. We may tell ourselves that we address the big issues later, or do good acts another time—when life feels less busy. But what if those very things that could bring real blessings never happen because we waited too long? Today is God's gift. We must live today with purpose, refusing to allow procrastination to rob us of the good we are called to do. In sacred scripture, we hear the Lord's parable of the workers in the vineyard. The lesson? Do good work and do not delay! Tomorrow is not guaranteed. Today is a precious gift from God. By his grace, embrace it, cherish it, and live it fully.

Do not be defeated if you realize you sometimes drift from God and a strong spiritual life. Jesus assures us that he will never leave us! It is never too late to return to the Lord. Every day we are faced with obligations and tasks that demand our attention and response. At times, our daily responsibilities can feel overwhelming or burdensome. We can even give in to grumbling or complaining. Yet, when we remember that all good things come from God—including the work he has given to us to accomplish—we can think differently and more positively. Throughout His life, Jesus sought to glorify His Heavenly Father by faithfully accomplishing the works entrusted to Him. He invites us to do the same. In imitation of Jesus, may we glorify his Heavenly Father by carrying out the works he has entrusted to us. Embrace your duties, obligations, and tasks today not as burdens but, rather, as privileged opportunities so you may do everything for God's glory.

America's Semiquincentennial - One Minute With Bishop Burbidge
This month we commemorate America's momentous 250th anniversary! We can celebrate this tremendous moment in the life and history of our nation by offering profound thanks to God, by whose grace we have enjoyed so many blessings and endured many trials since our founding. George Washington, our first president, declared that it was our duty as a nation "to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor." As we celebrate Independence Day, we recall that momentous act of our nation's founders in 1776 when together we embarked on a new path as a new people. What formed our nation into a truly "United" States was first and foremost a unity as believers in God and as a people who shared an awareness of their spiritual purpose and destiny. Although we have changed and grown as a nation since that first Independence Day, our ability and willingness to persevere as one people, united most especially by faith in God as brothers and sisters, continues to define and shape our identity as Americans. Religious Freedom Week - One Minute with Bishop Burbidge
This week we celebrate Religious Freedom Week. Religious freedom allows us to live out our faith in public and to serve the good of all. Unfortunately, these freedoms, recognized in the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, often come under attack. We have witnessed violence against individuals and houses of worship, defacement of church property and buildings, and vitriol on social media directed at those who proclaim their firmly held beliefs rooted in the Gospel. We must stand strong and be unafraid to bring our faith into the public. But we must do so respectful of others, with compassion and courage, without compromise. May our world leaders and all of us embrace and protect religious freedom and give thanks to all those who sacrificed so that this special gift may be ours.

At Father's Day we celebrate and honor those men who have profoundly and positively shaped our lives, in ways large and small. Many of us are fortunate to have had a father who has been a caring, loving, and trustworthy companion, protector, and provider in our lives. We give thanks to fathers for their goodness and their willingness to humbly and heroically model for us the virtues that lead to true happiness. All of us can benefit by reflecting on the witness of St. Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus and ultimate role model for men and especially fathers. Filled with the Spirit, Sacred scripture tells us that the apostles proclaimed God's Word with "boldness." The Lord challenges us and equips us to share the Good News with all. We are called to be bold! The Lord wants us to courageously speak the truth in love, with conviction, sincere humility, and a spirit of gentleness, remembering that "boldness" does not mean "harshness." We cherish our constitutional right to the free expression of religion in America, but how often do we shy away from truly expressing our beliefs—from sharing the Good News? Obeying God rather than men - One Minute with Bishop Burbidge
The first of the Ten Commandments states, "You shall have no other gods before me." Each of us experience the temptation to "worship idols" in our own lives any time that we feel the urge to heed the commands or expectations of the world. God should be the center of our attention and concern—not empty appeals of celebrities, political figures, or other worldly figures. We belong to Christ and are called to reject empty priorities and follow God's ways and commands. Under the threat of death, Peter and the Apostles said: "We must obey God rather than men." Inspired by their courage and example, may we reject the untruths and empty promises of the world. Instead, may we follow God's ways and the Joy of the Gospel, no matter the cost.

Memorial Day - One Minute with Bishop Burbidge
Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer for many of us, with family vacations and backyard barbeques on our minds. Memorial Day is a time to reflect prayerfully on our U.S. military service members, on the tremendous gift of their service to our nation in preserving our constitutional way of life and our rights and freedoms which allow us to pursue the happiness that comes by living lives of virtue. May we honor all those men and women who bravely served and who surrendered their very lives in military service throughout our history, including in present times. Today and always, may we honor the fallen who have freely gone to their eternal rest, and who ensured that we remain one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
