My bigger concern is the “problem of stupid people”: large portions of the population lacking the ability to detach from ideas, reason beyond ego, or admit they’re wrong, which makes them easy to manipulate and prone to mistaking compassion for weakness. I discuss how incompatible cultures and low-trust mindsets undermine Western high-trust norms (from stealing “honour system” eggs to exploiting benefits) and argue that even removing corrupt elites wouldn’t solve humanity’s deeper issues.
