Tom and Morgan are two mates who love talking nonsense about pop culture, while also enjoying a beer. We've taken our drunken ramblings from the pub to the studio to teach each other about all kinds of films, TV shows, video games and more. From '80s cartoons to '90s kids shows, action film franchises to cult games, we'll chat about anything remotely geek-related, often with plenty of confusion, bickering and fond nostalgia.

Power Rangers
Tom helps Morgan refresh his memory of the good old days of the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, and try not to have our childhoods ruined by shoddy production, racist undertones and dodgy spandex suits. We also discuss the ‘classic’ movie, its many TV spinoffs and the future film. Beer choice: Doom Bar (reference – Rita Repulsa’s impending doom. Yeah, we know.) Developments since broadcast: Amazingly, the Power Rangers TV series is still going. Since this episode, there have been five more seasons – our favourite of which was called ‘Dino Fury’ in 2021. In 2017, the Power Rangers film reboot was released. While it pleased a decent amount of fans, it wasn’t a massive box office success. Paramount is currently working on another attempt at a Power Rangers film reboot.

Sliders
Morgan and Tom hark back to the good old 1990s and the forgotten gem that was Sliders starring Jerry O’Connell. Well, it was a gem until the third season onwards when Fox ruined it. We find out just what went wrong with a brilliant sci-fi premise, including exclusive audio from John Rhys-Davies! Beer choice this time: Old Mout Cider – as ciders rhymes with Sliders. Developments since broadcast: Both Jerry O’Connell and John Rhys-Davies have spoken of a potential revival of the series as recently as 2019.

Die Hard
Morgan and Tom explain just why Die Hard is the best action movie of all time, why Jai Courtney almost single-handedly ruined the series, and the many clones from Cliffhanger to Executive Decision. We also discover how Die Hard could have starred Frank Sinatra instead of Bruce Willis, and we almost fall out when trying to rank the films. Beer choice this time: German ale Franziskaner Weissbier in tribute of Hans and Simon Gruber. Developments since broadcast: The planned sixth Die Hard movie was seemingly scrapped after Disney secured the rights to the 20th Century Fox catalogue. Disney is apparently planning to reboot Die Hard as a TV series on streaming service Hulu.

X-Men – The Animated Series
This time, Morgan geeks out about his favourite 1990s cartoon series, teaching Tom all about gruffly-voiced Wolverine, heartbreaking beastly romances and why will.I.Am isn’t the world’s best actor. We look back at the entire history and making of the classic X-Men: The Animated Series, and how it may have inspired the future film series. Beer choice this week was Guinness XX – we think you can guess why. Developments since broadcast: – In August 2020, it was announced that there were talks ongoing with Disney+ to revive the series.

Point and Click Adventure Games
Finally, we’re talking about video games in this episode! Tom takes Morgan through the world of nostalgic point and click games like Monkey Island, Broken Sword and The Longest Journey. And we moan about ridiculous puzzles involving goats, rubber duckies and moustaches. Developments since broadcast: In 2017, fans of the Monkey Island series launched an online petition in support of Ron Gilbert, asking Disney to sell the franchise to him; as of May 2020, the petition has gathered about 26,000 signatures.

Doctor Who – A Beginner’s Guide
Our latest episode sees Whovian Morgan teach Tom all about Doctor Who, and where to start watching if you’re a noob. We take in everything from Hartnell to Capaldi, and Daleks to Weeping Angels. We also pay our respect to Geek TV and film icon Sir Christopher Lee, who recently passed away soon before recording. It goes without saying that Morgan is a massive Doctor Who fan, and has pretty much made his career in banging on about the feller. Meanwhile, Tom has never really seen an episode all the way through and doesn’t understand what all the fuss is about. And he calls himself a geek? So for this episode, Morgan explains just why the show is so good, travelling back and forth through time to give any noobs the ultimate watching order guide. Morgan also reveals his favourite ever Doctor, and ponders the future of the franchise. Developments since episode: The obvious one, Jodie Whittaker took over the role of the Doctor from Peter Capaldi in 2017, becoming the first ever female Doctor.

Freaky Film Franchises
In Episode 5 we look at a variety of random and odd movie franchises, with some that are still going to this day. We both get utterly baffled and fascinated by the cinematic universes of The Scorpion King, The Land Before Time, Anaconda/Lake Placid, God of Gamblers and Zombi. Strap yourselves in, it’s going to get confusing… Morgan takes us through the history of the Scorpion King franchise, which began in 2002’s The Mummy Returns starring Dwayne Johnson as the titular warrior. Since then, it has spawned three further films with totally different casts each time. Then there’s the Lake Placid and Anaconda series, which came to a head when they went up against each other, despite the former being a body of water, but there you go. The Zombi film series is just downright complicated, as it technically involves two completely different series from different filmmakers taking place at the same time. The Land Before Time series started off a cute animated film, but has since spawned almost countless spinoffs and sequels that are still going strong. Then there’s the God of Gamblers series, where Tom simply got lost while trying to explain (we’ll blame the beer). Developments since episode: – There’s been another Land Before Time film – Journey of the Brave – released in 2016. God of Gamblers has seen two further films: From Vegas to Macau II in 2015 and From Vegas to Macau III in 2016. In 2020, it was announced that a reboot of the Anaconda film series was in the works. In 2018, a new film came out called Lake Placid: Legacy. 2018 also saw the release of the film The Scorpion King: Book of Souls, while a further reboot was announced in 2020, with Dwayne Johnson producing.

Defenders of the Earth
Episode 4 sees Morgan teach Tom all about 1980s cartoon Defenders of the Earth! We discuss everything from Flash Gordon’s dark storylines, failed Billy Zane movies and the potential DOTE cinematic universe. Known for its downright incredible intro theme tune (with lyrics credited to Stan Lee), Defenders of the Earth ran for just one season from 1986, but one with 65 (!) episodes in total. Set in the year 2015, it followed an Avengers-style teamup of comic characters Flash Gordon, The Phantom, Mandrake the Magician and Mandrake’s assistant Lothar. Their main enemy was the evil Ming the Merciless. He was merciless, after all.

ReBoot
Episode 3 is all about the forgotten YTV/CITV gem ReBoot, the first fully-CGI TV series. We ask whether ReBoot could be… rebooted, and discuss Dot Matrixes and comparisons to Sliders and Wreck It Ralph. ReBoot was a Canadian series that originally ran from 1994 to 2001. Tom was a massive fan growing up when it reached the UK on CITV in the mid-to-late 1990s, but it was cruelly taken off the air mid-season. He didn’t find out what happened next until about 8 years later when he discovered something called BitTorrent… The series followed the adventures of a Guardian named Bob and his companions Enzo and Dot Matrix, as they worked to keep the computer system of Mainframe safe from viruses and other threats. Developments since episode: In 2015, a new animated-live action hybrid show titled ReBoot: The Guardian Code launched on YTV and Netflix. And yeah… it wasnt great.

Thundercats
Our second episode sees Morgan teach Tom all about 1980s cartoon series Thundercats! Discover all about how Jagar is like Alec Guinness, Mumm-ra is definitely not Skeletor and Brad Pitt makes the perfect Lion-o. Based on characters created by Ted ‘Tobin’ Wolf, Thundercats launched in 1985, with animation provided by the Japanese studio Pacific Animation Corporation. As Morgan explains to a confused Tom (who somehow didn’t watch it as a kid), ThunderCats follows the adventures of a team of heroes, cat-like humanoid aliens from a planet called Third Earth. The series begins with the dying planet Thundera meeting its end, forcing the ThunderCats to flee their homeworld. The fleet is attacked by their enemies, the Mutants of Plun-Darr, but spare the flagship hoping to capture the legendary mystic Sword of Omens. Oooh… The flagship contains Lion-O, as well as Cheetara, Panthro, Tygra, WilyKit and WilyKat, and, sigh, Snarf. Developments since episode: In 2020, a new show launched called Thundercats Roar, on the Cartoon Network. Featuring far more comedic and lighthearted animation and stories, which was met with a backlash from some fans of the original series and the 2011 reboot.
