This week on Patreon Kerry will help you see more clearly what Isaiah 52 is about and will offer some Hebrew insights into that chapter and 53, along with other insights. In this episode Kerry discusses the pivotal role that Isaiah 52 plays in the Book of Mormon and our understanding of Christ's atoning sacrifice. He also briefly discusses how to understand Isaiah 52 in light of Isaiah 47. Then he and Dr. Daniel Belnap discuss how Isaiah 52 draws on both Exodus and Babylon imagery as well as traveling in the wilderness imagery. They also discuss how it prepares us for Christ's second coming and how it can see us through times of uncertainty and how to deal with things we can't control because of Christ's redemption. They talk about the necessity of staying with the camp of Zion to have peace and redemption. Then Kerry and Dr. Paul Hoskisson talk about the transition from chapters 52 and 53 and how the transition verses that speak of a triumphal and suffering servant work well in both verses. Dr. Hoskisson walks us through how the "marred" servant can mean the anointed servant or the blemished servant. They explore how Christ is both a suffering servant and a triumphal king. Then Kerry and Rabbi Grover examine together Isaiah 53 and how the suffering servant is both Christ and Israel. They look at the idea of a messiah and redeemer in general and and what it means for Jews and what it means to be an anointed one and all the people in the Bible that were anointed ones. They delve into what it means for Israel to be a suffering servant and what it means for a redeeming messiah to be a suffering servant. They look at the original context and how both Jews and Latter-day Saints fulfill the imagery in the passage. They explore the shared suffering of those two groups and how both groups have a task to bring the Lord and His redemption to the world. Rabbi Grover shares his experiences about learning of LDS suffering and the affect it had on him. Then Dr. John Howell and Kerry look at Isaiah 54 and how it teaches us of God's hesed for us. They see the way it follows and interacts with Isaiah 53. They also look at how the Book of Mormon helps us understand it, especially the time markers in the text. They examine how God takes away shame and makes us new and ready to move forward in a relationship with God, the most powerful creator. They look at how we forsake God but He accepts us back, and the incredible imagery of His unmovableness in waiting for us. We are grateful for our executive producers, P. Franzen, J. Parke, D.
