    Dream On: Stanford's Juliette Whittaker Shares Her Pursuit Of Greatness

    Today's episode is one I've been wanting to make happen for over a year now! I have the extreme privilege of speaking with Juliette Whittaker. Juliette is an exceptional athlete who competes for Stanford University. Throughout her collegiate career at Stanford so far, she has garnered numerous accolades, including winning the NCAA indoor distance medley relay championship in 2023 and being named a four-time All-American. She's claimed titles like the Pac-12 800 champion and Pac-12 Women's Track and Field Freshman of the Year in 2023. Juliette's impressive athletic record extends to her time as a U.S. under-20 800 champion and a national high school outdoor record-holder for the 800 meters. Her exceptional personal bests, including a 1:59.04 in the 800 and a 4:12.49 in the 1,500 meters, have solidified her as a top performer. Notably, she's earned the Stanford Athletics Board Conference Athlete of the Year award and has excelled academically, making the USTFCCCA All-Academic list and being named to the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll. Juliette's accomplishments, from setting records to winning championships, speak to her dedication and remarkable talent in the world of track and field.     Coach Chris Miltenberg On The Attributes It Takes To Be World Class | Insights From Coaching Grant Fisher, Sean McGorty, Elise Cranny & More

    Today's podcast guest was one of my dream guests for the past few years. His name is Coach Chris Miltenberg, and he has heavily influenced many of the individuals who have influenced me and shaped me into the person I am today. He is one of the greatest coaches in NCAA history, and, more importantly, a man who has contributed to the lives of hundreds of athletes over the years. Coach Milt has achieved remarkable achievements at Stanford University and the University of North Carolina. Under his leadership, UNC's teams achieved significant milestones, qualifying for the NCAA Cross Country Championships and earning high ACC finishes. Coach Milt's athletes consistently earned All-America honors and excelled at NCAA Championships. During his tenure at Stanford, the teams secured ten podium finishes in NCAA Championship competitions, with the men's track and field/cross country program winning the John McDonnell Division I Program of the Year in 2019. His coaching prowess was evident as he led the women's cross-country team at Georgetown University to a national championship in 2011. Additionally, Coach Milt emphasizes academic excellence, with numerous scholar-athlete recognitions for his athletes. Throughout his career, he has been recognized for inspiring dedication and excellence in his athletes, both on and off the field. Coach Milt's legacy as one of the sport's most exceptional and influential coaches is evident in his transformative impact and outstanding achievements.     Running Towards Greatness: 4:01 HS Miler Clay Shively Shares His Story | An Inside Look At The Next Great Star

    Today on the podcast is the one and only, Clay Shively! Clay runs for his high school Wichita Trinity Academy and ran 4:01.47 in mile at this year's Festival of Miles as a junior in high school. This indoor season Clay broke the legendary Jim Ryun's 58yr old indoor state mile record of 4:07 by running 4:04.95. Clay is committed to run for Northern Arizona University next Fall. I had the privilege of meeting Clay both in St. Louis and then a few weeks later in Seattle, and this kid not only had an incredibly bright future on the track, but is also one of the most genuinely kind people I've ever met. In today's episode, Clay shares his upbringing in the sport, the past year of success, his ambitions for the next year, leading the class of 24', deciding to go to NAU, and much more.     The Story Of Isaiah Harris: From Tough Beginnings To The World Championships

    Today on the podcast is Isiah Harris! Isaiah runs for the Brooks Beast. Isaiah most recently placed second at this year's US Championships by running a time of 1:46.68, sending him to Budapest this month for the 2023 World Championships. Back in 2022, he earned a spot on his first US team by finishing 2nd at the 2022 USATF Indoor National Championships, eventually finishing seventh at the World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. In college, Isaiah achieved several notable milestones during his collegiate career at Penn State University, including winning the 2018 NCAA Championship in the Outdoor 800-meters with a time of 1:44.76. Isaiah is an 8-time Big Ten Champion and holds the All-Time Big Ten Indoor Championships and Outdoor Championships Records in the 800-meters with times of 1:46.24 and 1:45.31, respectively. He also competed in the 2017 IAAF World Championships and the USATF Championships, earning a silver medal in the latter with a time of 1:44.53. He demonstrated consistent performances and secured multiple NCAA Indoor/Outdoor All-American honors throughout his career. With impressive speed and endurance, Isaiah established himself as one of the top middle-distance runners in the United States and made significant contributions to Penn State's track and field program.     Today on the podcast is one of the kindest souls alive, Austen Dalquist! Austen is a professional runner for Roots Running based in Boulder, Colorado. He holds PRs of 1:51.22 (800m), 3:37.52 (1500m), 3:57.18 (Mile), and 13:50.87 (5k). As a senior, he achieved the prestigious title of First Team All-American in the DMR (Distance Medley Relay) category. During his college years, Austen competed in various indoor and outdoor meets, consistently delivering strong performances. He set personal best times in events like the 5,000-meters and 10,000-meters, earning him placements at championship events like the SEC Outdoor Championships and NCAA West Regional. Austen's dedication and skills were evident throughout his college career, where he contributed valuable points to his team and consistently improved his performance. Prior to college, Austen demonstrated exceptional talent in high school, excelling in cross country and track events, holding multiple school records. In this episode, Austen goes through his story, including being too invested in running, having an eating-disorder, and thriving as a professional.     Today on the podcast is your 2023 Women's 800m Champion, Nia Akins! Nia is an outstanding track and field athlete with an impressive list of accomplishments. Before she became a professional runner, she was the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships National Runner-Up and the 2019 NCAA Indoor Championships National Runner-Up in the 800m. She was recognized as one of the top contenders for the Bowerman Award and was a finalist for the USTFCCCA National Women's Track Athlete of the Year. Nia has excelled in various events, earning All-America honors and capturing multiple titles at the Ivy League Indoor and Outdoor Heptagonal Championships. She holds several records at Penn, including the second-fastest time in NCAA history for indoor 800m (2:00.71) and first-all-time records in various relay events and outdoor races. In cross country, Nia has displayed her talent and earned accolades, such as USTFCCCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors and All-Ivy accolades. Nia also has ventured into the music space over the past few years and developed a great passion for it.     Winning The US Championships While Working Two Side Jobs: An Inside Look At The Incredible Story Of Freddie Crittenden

    Today on the podcast is a US Champ, Freddie Crittenden! This is one of my all-time favorite episodes of the podcast. Freddie's story is nothing short of inspiring, and boy, am I fired up after listening to it. For those that aren't familiar, Freddie is a talented track and field athlete known for his exceptional hurdling skills. Throughout his career, he has participated in various prestigious events and achieved notable successes. At the 2019 IAAF World Relays, he earned a gold medal in the shuttle hurdles relay. Additionally, he secured a silver medal in the 110m hurdles at the 2019 Pan American Games. His achievements extend to international events, including a gold medal at the 2016 NACAC U23 Championships, gold at the 2022 NACAC Champions, and a bronze at the 2019 Nanjing World Challenge. Recently, he won the 2023 US Track and Field Indoor Championships in the 60mH. Most recently, Freddie placed third at the 2023 US Championships in Eugene earlier this month in the 100mH sending him to the World Championships held in Budapest next month. In his most recent race, he ran a PR of 13:02.13 in the 5k to gain the World and Olympic standard. Sean runs for Nike and The Bowerman Track Club. For those who aren't familiar with Sean, he has a long history of success from the time he was in high school. In high school, he won more state-championships and had more accolades than one could remember. In college, Sean became an NCAA Champion in the 5k at Stanford University and pushed forward that program to a new level in his years of representing the farm. The team's achievements were highlighted by standout performances from athletes like Emily Cole, CJ Ambrosio, Nick Dahl, and Michaela Reinhart. Under Reckart's guidance, the program has witnessed significant growth and promising results, cementing her reputation as an accomplished and influential coach. Her previous coaching experience at Penn State and North Carolina also demonstrated her ability to develop All-Americans and foster record-breaking performances.     Today on the podcast is your 2023 USATF Steeplechase Champion, Krusty Gear! Krissy runs for HOKA NAZ Elite. Originally from Fort Myers, Florida, she was a six-time state champion in track. She began her college career at Furman University. Later, she transferred to the University of Arkansas, where she won an SEC title in the DMR and was a part of the NCAA championship team in the distance medley relay. Krissy's professional career took off when she joined HOKA NAZ Elite in 2022, contributing to the team's third-place finish at the USATF Club Cross Country Championships. In the 2023 indoor track season, she achieved multiple wins and personal bests in various events, including the 800 meters and mile. The season culminated with a third-place finish in the 1500 meters at the USATF Indoor Championships. Her outdoor season has been one for the record books with victories in the steeplechase at the ON Track Fest and the BAA Invitational Mile. Most notable of all, Krissy won the steeplechase at the 2023 USATF Outdoor Track and Field Championships, securing her first national title and a spot in the World Championships. With her dedication, talent, remarkable achievements, and kind heart, Krissy has become an inspiring figure in the world of track and field.     I am absolutely thrilled to welcome onto the podcast the one and only Sinclaire Johnson! Sinclaire was the 2022 US Champion in the 1500m and placed 4th at this year championships sending her to the World Championships next month in Budapest. She holds PRs of 1:59.90 in the 800m and 3:58.85 in the 1500. She runs for Nike's Union Athletics Club. In college, Sinclaire was an NCAA Champion in the 1500m. In high school, Sinclaire was a multi-time state champion in Flordia. Over the past few months, Sinclaire has dealt with a plethora of setbacks that she shares in-depth about in this episode. I greatly appreciated her openness to talking about the darker side of the sport that all of us have experienced. She grew up in New-Zealand where she was a multi-time national champion. On June 10, Maia won the 1500m at NCAAs in stunning fashion running a PB of 4:08.60 with a final 400m of 63.27. For many, this was a surprise, but for those who know Maia it was the culmination of years of hard work. In addition to her success this past spring, Maia has had a storied career on the grass as well placing 11th at the National Meet last Fall and winning the Ivy League Heptagonal Championship Meet.     Today is one of the most accomplished coaches in NCAA history, Coach Sean Carlson. Coach Sean Carlson leads the men's and women's cross country and distance programs at the University of Tennessee. Carlson brings with him a decade of experience at Notre Dame, where he transformed their distance group into a national powerhouse. Under his guidance, Notre Dame athletes achieved impressive records, including four American collegiate records, 13 school records, 29 NCAA All-America performances, two NCAA records, and three NCAA championships. Carlson's success extended to both the men's and women's teams, with the Irish men winning three ACC Cross Country Championship titles and achieving top-10 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. His coaching expertise has also helped athletes qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships and claim titles, including the NCAA outdoor title in the 10,000 meters. In his career he has coached athletes such as Yared Nuguse, Dylan Jacobs, Yaseen Abdalla among others.
