But the consequences of that may just affect everyone when the airline is forced to cancel the flight altogether, leaving everyone stranded.     The Kindest Restraint

    Restraining dangerous passengers is something no cabin crew ever wants to deal with. Being trapped in an enclosed aircraft with someone who is threatening safety is scary. Recently, a member of the flight crew had to be restrained after stabbing the captain with a crash axe and attempting to take control of the aircraft. That is a definite cause for restraint. But sometimes you have to think outside the box and look at the individual passenger causing trouble. Could it be something else causing the behaviour other than ill intent? A diabetic in need of sugar? Mental health issues? Or perhaps a drug abuse problem. In which case, is there a better way to stop the passenger causing injury to himself or others? In this episode, we hear the true story of a flight crew who were about to restrain a passenger who looked like he was trying to access the flight deck, until one flight attendant noticed something that changed the way they treated him.     A Final Flight

    Passengers board a plane for many reasons. A single plane can hold honeymooners, stag and hen dos, families, dream vacationers, people moving to a different country, pilgrims, and business travellers. People also fly for sad reasons, visiting a sick loved one, a death in the family or leaving a broken relationship. It's one of the reasons I used to ask my cabin crew to chat a little with their passengers during service - to see if anyone needed a little extra attention, help celebrate or provide comfort. The person who donated this story told us that this passenger that boarded their flight was a firm favourite with all the crew. He was kind, full of fun and flying back to visit the island he was born on 94 years ago. He touched the lives of all the crew that day for many reasons.     When the tragedy of 9/11 occured, airline crews were displaced all over the world.     Fight or Flight

    A violent hijacking by a crew member causes the pilots to fight back for their lives. In 1994, a disgruntled employee called Auburn Calloway was facing disciplinary action for lying about his flying hours. He decided to take matters into his own hands and give his children the Fed Ex life insurance money by attempting the unthinkable. He hid weapons in his carry on baggage, had unrestricted access to the cockpit and tried to murder all three flight crew after take off. His plan was to crash the aircraft and make it all look like an accident. The courageous crew fought back, attempting extreme aerial maneuvers, including almost rolling the DC-10 plane upside down at 140 degrees, and performing dives to disarm and subdue Calloway. Captain David G. Sanders, First Officer James M. Tucker Jr and Flight Engineer Andrew H. Peterson were true heroes. Fighting to the end despite their horrific injuries that cost them their careers.     Would you ever lie to give yourself more time in a destination? In the aviation world, we've had plenty of crew who will go sick downroute so they don't have to work home - they get the name One Sector Sally (a cabin crew member who gets the reputation of only working one sector). I guess a flight attendant might do that for myriad reasons. They hate their job, they have stuff going on at home, or maybe they meet the most amazing guy at their destination and don't want that magic to end? That's exactly what happened to the donor of our latest story. She met an incredible man in Cape Town, and had to make a choice about leaving him or leaving her crew a man down!     Fire on Final Approach

    A major lithium battery fire occurred in an overhead locker on a Virgin Australia Boeing 737 flight from Sydney to Hobart on July 21st, 2025. Whilst preparing the cabin for landing, the cabin crew were alerted to smoke, and the sounds of pops and hisses. A lithium battery fire is a cabin crew's worst nightmare. Because once one cell ignites, you risk something called Thermal Runaway, where the adjacent cells begin to overheat and ignite as well - causing the fire to spread quickly and uncontrollably. The key is too cool it down fast. But what if the lithium battery is hard to locate? And what if the aircraft is rapidly coming into land?     Stuck Up a Mountain

    Going off on adventures whilst on a layover is a perk of the job as a member of flight crew.
