    Meet the Pro: Wildlife Photographer Lance van de Vyver

    Host Toby Jermyn welcomes wildlife photographer and photographic guide Lance van de Vyver, a New Zealand-born zoology graduate who moved to South Africa in 2012 and now runs specialist photographic safaris and co-hosts the Safari Shots podcast. Lance discusses trips to Tanzania and Botswana’s Makgadikgadi and possible travel to India. He shares a career-launching black-and-white image of a pangolin being handled by a lioness, explaining the brief sighting and that the pangolin later died from heat and prolonged stress, prompting discussion about stricter guidelines and the Pangolin Guardians program. He also describes a portrait of a captive-born pangolin pup later released, a flash-at-sunset leopard technique and ethics, a black-and-white giant anteater (“broomstick”) in Brazil, and a stitched telephoto lion portrait.
