Bonus Episode - NSW Swifts mindset coach Emma Murray

In their quest to lift the Super Netball trophy this year, the NSW Swifts picked up a bit of a secret weapon midway through the season. After losing three of their first seven games, including an upset to the Adelaide Thunderbirds, the team decided they needed a shift in mindset if they were going to have a crack at the title. Before the COVID chaos started, the Swifts flew Emma to Sydney for a one-day workshop during the bye week... and they got hooked. For the rest of the season, through all the interstate travel, quarantine, time spent away from family and lagging fatigue, Emma was on the other end of the phone ready to help them through it. Their game became more consistent as they learnt to be present in the moment and their composure in the grand final was a poignant representation of the self-awareness and level of control they'd learnt under Emma's guidance. In this bonus episode, Britt sits down with Emma Murray to find out more about her work with the NSW Swifts and Richmond Tigers.

    Three Legged Race

There are just three teams left standing in Super Netball for 2021, and while the NSW Swifts are headed straight to the Grand Final, the Giants and West Coast Fever will battle it out for the final spot. Plenty of questions on the agenda, such as: - Has the Fever's goal attack rotation been a key to their success? - What will the Giants newbies learn from their one-point semi-final loss? AND - Which wing defence is right for the NSW Swifts?

    Locked and Loaded

With our top four locked and loaded and GIANTS Netball named Minor Premiers for 2021, the finish line is close and discuss how each team faired in their last game before the finals series starts this weekend. For the first time in SSN history both NSW teams, the GIANTS and the Swifts have made finals, and we wonder if Lighting have enough in reserve to beat Fever. With the Diamonds squad announcement hot off the press, we discuss some of the exclusions as well as some of our favourite inclusions, like Amy Parmenter and Sunday Aryang. We also catch up with the in-form Maddie Hay, about her team being Minor Premiers and being named in the Diamonds Development squad.

    Covid Chaos

Just when you think Super Netball had waved goodbye to its troubles and had happily settled in Adelaide ready to finish the season off, another outbreak throws the league into a relocation chaos. Meanwhile, when it comes to the ladder, the top four is pretty much cemented, with only a couple of teams still able to challenge for fourth place. Plus we have a crack at picking our Aussie Diamonds teams.

The Magic, The Myth, The Mentor

To celebrate the wonder that is double centurion Geva Mentor, we spent some time with the Commonwealth Games gold medallist and Collingwood Magpies captain — talking netball, friendships and spa baths. Also on the agenda: Fever's back-to-back losses, which teams are still fighting fatigue and are the Swifts the new favourites to win the competition?

    Fighting Fatigue

As players spend extended time away from home some teams are dealing with it better than others. The NSW Swifts are one of those teams, who, despite their challenges were able to beat the undefeated West Coast Fever and elevate their chances as a serious contender for the title. We're excited to chat to talented Adelaide Thunderbirds defender Matlida Garrett on this podcast and to have a full round with 4 games to talk about.

Flying by the seat of their pants

With COVID-19 threatening to derail the Super Netball fixture, players have again been asked to be flexible to keep the competition going, as most teams head to Melbourne to form another hub. Meanwhile, fans weren't happy about the Fever's not-so-subtle swipe at the Vixens online, playing the blame game after the Melbourne team didn't turn up for their scheduled RD8 game in Perth. Leadership has also been a hot topic on social media, as we all went into a bit of a frenzy trying to piece together the controversy of events that have unfolded over the past week, lacking a clear figurehead that could provide updates on what was happening and perhaps take better control of the situation.

    She's Back Baby

Round 8 is a split round in SSN, so we discuss the two games that were on offer. The Swifts were clinical against a struggling Firebirds outfit who may have just squandered away their top four dreams; meanwhile Jo Harten brought the Giants back to life against a penalty heavy Thunderbirds who looked disjointed. - Have the Swifts found their starting seven yet? - Has the Thunderbirds winning ways of the past and former reputation bought them more time than they deserve?

    Half the Distance

We're halfway through the 2021 season and former Aussie Diamonds coach Lisa Alexander joins us to discuss all things Super Netball. While some teams are starting to fatigue and struggling with consistency, the West Coast Fever show no signs of slowing down. The team are still undefeated seven rounds in, and are certainly the team to beat right now — despite more rumblings within the netball community about whether their salary cap sanctions were harsh enough. Bold coaching decisions, the psychological effect of interstate players playing at home and league expansion are also on the agenda.

There are some big administration changes at the top of netball this week, while NRL Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart lands in hot water for some casual sexism and an arrogant "apology". We chat with Queensland Firebirds and Aussie Diamonds shooter Gretel Bueta about being a new mum and making her way back to the top of her game. While Super Netball RD3 has us pondering whether the Lightning will recover and how Jhaniele Fowler can be stopped.
