The Keeping the Citadel Podcast

Heather Faria

Biblical womanhood was never meant to be boring, passive, or inconsequential.

The Keeping the Citadel Podcast is for women who want to embrace the high calling of home and build homes, families, and lives wholly devoted to Christ.

Join Heather Faria for conversations rooted in Scripture on biblical womanhood, marriage, motherhood, homemaking, discipleship, home education, hospitality, beauty, suffering, and fruitful Christian living. Along the way, you’ll hear from women who are faithfully living out their callings and find practical encouragement for your own.

We want to call women higher. Women today don’t need any more coddling, they need to be exhorted to robust, courageous, productive living for the Kingdom of God. They need to be told where their battle posts are and how to live out their unique calling. They need to be taught how godly women can properly engage in this battle against the powers of darkness. And we believe that such women are the most valuable in this fight when faithfully manning their posts at home….or as we like to say, their Citadels.

So join us. Help us bear the flame.

Embrace your high calling. Live a better story. And keep the flame of your citadel burning brightly.

Foundations of Motherhood with Nicole Angeles

Have a question or comment? Send a text! What are we really building through all the ordinary, repetitive work of motherhood? In this episode of our Cornerstones of the Citadel series, Heather sits down with Nicole Angeles, homeschool mother of seven, to talk about the foundational principles of faithful motherhood and what it means to raise children with the end in mind. Drawing from Nicole’s article, “Calling Children to a Higher Authority,” in the Fall issue of Keeping the Citadel Magazine, they talk about using the language of Scripture in everyday child-training, teaching children to live under the authority of God’s Word, and moving beyond mere behavior management to point our children toward repentance and their need for Christ. They also explore the habits and rhythms that shape a family over time—from cultivating obedience, responsibility, and self-government to bringing children into the real work of family life. Nicole shares what raising seven children has taught her about consistency, family culture, and the ways motherhood forms the mother right alongside her children. And with an oldest daughter now preparing for marriage while Nicole is still raising younger children, they take a long view of motherhood: What actually matters after decades of raising children? What are we preparing them for? And what do we hope they will carry from our homes into the homes they may one day build themselves? Motherhood is generational work. We may not always see what is being built in the ordinary moments, but day by day, we are laying stones. The Stones that Build a Solid Marriage with Christin Hunt

Have a question or comment? Send a text! What does it actually take to build a godly marriage that will stand the test of time? In this episode of our Cornerstones of the Citadel series, Heather sits down with Christin Hunt to talk about the foundation beneath a strong and enduring Christian marriage. Together, they discuss the expectations we bring into marriage, the slow and ordinary work of building a life together, and the importance of focusing not merely on what our husband needs to change—but on the kind of wife Christ is shaping us to become. Drawing from Christin’s article, “The Stones We Bring,” in the Fall issue of Keeping the Citadel Magazine, they explore four essential building stones of a godly marriage—holiness, honesty, honor, and hope—along with the habits and convictions that strengthen a marriage over decades. Christin also shares from her own life and experience as a pastor’s wife, including the unique pressures ministry can place on a marriage and home, how to protect the marriage covenant while faithfully serving the church, and encouragement for the pastor’s wife who may be weary in the work. A strong marriage isn’t built in a day. Stone by stone, year by year, Christ shapes us and teaches us to build upon Him—the true Cornerstone. How to Approach Feminine Beauty & Modesty

Have a question or comment? Send a text! What does it mean to be a truly beautiful woman? In the final episode of our Battle for Beauty series, Heather sits down with Abi Keane of Taste and See Ceramics for a conversation about beauty, modesty, adornment, and recovering a distinctly biblical vision of femininity. Abi shares her own story of moving away from feminism and the world’s vision of female empowerment toward embracing biblical womanhood—and the freedom and beauty she has found there. Together, Heather and Abi explore the heart behind modesty, the difference between wanting to look lovely and wanting to be looked at, our culture’s obsession with youth and sexual desirability, and why outward rules alone can never produce true modesty. They also discuss how Christian women can delight in clothing, beauty, and adornment without making them idols or becoming ashamed of their femininity. Ultimately, this conversation asks a deeper question: Whose eyes are we living before? Because true feminine beauty isn't found in demanding the attention of the world, but in becoming women adorned with holiness—secure in being seen, loved, and chosen in Christ. This episode closes our Battle for Beauty series before we step into a brand-new season of Keeping the Citadel: The Architecture of the Citadel.

In this episode, I'm joined by Katie Bailey to talk about the beauty God brings through suffering.
