September 29 · 1 hr 2 minLet’s Talk About Sex… in the Movies! Hollywood’s Most Provocative Films
Hollywood has never been shy about sex—although what filmmakers could show, suggest, or even talk about has changed dramatically over the decades! This week on Tales From Hollywoodland, the crew turns up the heat as they discuss some of the best, steamiest, and most provocative movies about sex, romance, desire, and relationships in Hollywood history. From the suggestive sophistication of classic Hollywood movies to the boundary-pushing films that challenged censorship and changed what audiences could see on screen, we explore how sex in the movies has evolved alongside American culture. The guys share their favorite films, memorable performances, controversial moments, and the movies that weren’t afraid to make audiences a little uncomfortable—or perhaps loosen their collars. It’s a fun, frank, and occasionally naughty journey through Hollywood film history, exploring how filmmakers have used sexuality to create comedy, drama, romance, suspense, and some truly unforgettable cinema. So, dim the lights, grab some popcorn, and join Tales From Hollywoodland as we talk about Hollywood’s sexiest movies. Don’t worry—we’ll try to keep it classy. Try. We want to hear from you! Feedback is always welcome. Please write to us at talesfromhollywoodland@gmail.com, and why not subscribe and rate the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeartRadio, PlayerFM, Pandora, Amazon Music, Audible, and wherever fine podcasts are found. #TalesFromHollywoodland #SexInTheMovies #MovieHistory #HollywoodHistory #ClassicHollywood #FilmHistory #ClassicMovies #Cinema #MoviePodcast #HollywoodMovies #FilmPodcast #MovieLovers The post Let’s Talk About Sex… in the Movies! This week, we’re on a second contact mission, revisiting Star Trek: Enterprise Season 3, Episode 9 “North Star,” now that Maria and Jamie have watched it. Also, we’re joined by Ryan Consell, author of the Stealing from Wizards series! We all agreed that this episode was trying to say… something, but what it was trying to say was weird! We also do a deep dive into the episode name “North Star” and whether it comes from the name of Frederick Douglas’ anti-slavery newspaper, as Memory Alpha claims, or if they actually stole it from a 90s made-for-tv movie of the same name. A word of warning: If you haven’t listened to the episode before this one, “The Good, The Bad and the Skagly!,” go listen to that first because this is a follow up to last week. About 5 years ago I got to know the incredibly talented artist Juana Sawyer, a.k.a. “Call Me Moose Almighty” after finding her hilarious pencil-drawn animatic-style videos on TikTok. Since then I have commissioned a few pieces from her, mainly of her interpretations of my OCs “Dienne & Darius” who she has become a big fan of. She kindly accepted my invitation to be a guest on the podcast, where we talked about our experiences developing our art styles, the-little-movie-that-could “Coyote Vs. Acme”, and Moose completely dodging admitting that she has a gigantic crush on Donatello from “Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”. September 23 · 1 hrLouche, Brio and Bravura: Tribute to Tim Curry | Earth Station Boo
He gave us the most iconic villain in midnight movie history. He gave us the clown that scared a generation. Tea and Karen pay tribute to the late, great Tim Curry with a deep dive into his extraordinary career – from the Royal Shakespeare Company to Dr. Frank-N-Furter, from Pennywise to Wadsworth to Darkness, from Broadway to the animated series that shaped childhoods around the world. September 22 · 20 minSpooky Season Begins
Spooky season has officially arrived, and we’re kicking it off with a classic. Shawn introduces Leah to They Live, the 1988 sci-fi cult classic starring Roddy Piper. Shawn recently picked up two NECA alien action figures from the movie, so naturally, that meant Leah had to watch it. Did she love it? Let’s just say her review wasn’t exactly glowing. We also headed out to a local chili cook-off supporting the local soup kitchen. We sampled five different chilis and got to vote for our favourites. Leah even filmed the event for her new YouTube channel, My Northern Life With Leah. Speaking of YouTube, Shawn talks about the surprising growth of The Long Way Around. What started as a small side project has been growing much faster than expected, and we’re still trying to figure out where all of this might lead. Then there’s the Robin saga: In our last episode, we talked about Shawn’s brother Robin accusing us of stealing his stuffed Robin’s Donuts robin plush. The story got shared all over Facebook. Well, there’s an update. About a week later, Robin found the original bird. Mystery solved! Shawn is also getting ready for another road trip. He’s heading to Sudbury for Creature Con, then continuing north to Timmins to visit his son. It’s been three years since he’s been back that way, so there’s plenty to look forward to. And because this is Shawn, there’s also a story about smashing his face into lumber sticking out the back of a truck while working his mail route. Plus, there’s plenty of our usual coffee-fueled conversation, random tangents, and whatever else comes up when Shawn and Leah sit down to talk. Welcome to spooky season!
