You fat… fat and juicy. | Earth Station Boo

The road ends here. The Carters just did not know it yet. Tea and Karen dive deep into Wes Craven’s 1977 survival horror masterpiece – The Hills Have Eyes – the raw, uncompromising desert nightmare that pitted a suburban American family against a cannibal clan in the Nevada hills and asked which family was really more savage by the end. They cover the Sawney Bean legend that inspired the script, Michael Berryman’s unforgettable debut as Pluto, Dee Wallace in an early role, the film’s brutal and uncomfortable home invasion sequence, and what Craven was really saying about the thin line between civilization and savagery. A $230,000 budget. A $25 million box office. And a film that still gets under your skin almost fifty years later. Subscribe now to Earth Station Boo where we talk all things horror. Let’s Get Spooky! The Cosmic Pizza Podcast brings you Episode 112: The Instascammer. Our very own Cosmic Pizza Podcast host, Kacey is a cult expert and two years ago she came across a Reddit post, citing the alleged harm that a woman in Hawaii, called Liana Shanti, had caused some of the members of her online community. Former members alleged that she was ‘inducing’ memories of sexual abuse from their friends and family members, she was encouraging members to break up their family homes and even encouraging mothers to flee their home countries with their children, to stop their fathers from seeing them. In this episode, Kacey talks us through her investigation and how this, is just the tip of the iceberg that she uncovered. Otherwise, the system doesn’t work | Earth Station Boo

Five college friends. A remote cabin. Something terrible in the basement. You think you know exactly how this goes. You do not. Spilled Tea & Karen plus our friend Jake are entering Cabin in the Woods. 2012’s meta horror masterpiece that dismantled every horror trope it lovingly deployed, making Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford two of the scariest people in any horror film that year, and ended with the complete destruction of humanity as a narrative choice. They cover the structural brilliance of the two-track storytelling, what the film is really saying about horror audiences and our complicity in the genre, the extraordinary monster cube sequence, and why a horror film written in three days became one of the most taught and discussed genre films of the modern era. From Creature Kon to Silent Night, Deadly Night

This week on Have Coffee Will Travel, Shawn is back from a weekend filled with horror, celebrities, road trips, and plenty of strange encounters! Shawn heads out on a road trip to Creature Kon, where he meets some of the horror movie stars he grew up watching. One of the biggest highlights is meeting scream queen Linnea Quigley, who even records a special pop-culture quote with him. Want to see the adventure for yourself? Shawn documented the entire road trip, from the drive to Creature Kon to the convention itself and everything that happened along the way. Watch Shawn’s Creature Con road trip on YouTube: While Shawn was away, Leah’s bees were still keeping her busy. The two also catch up on what’s been happening with the hive and the latest adventures in beekeeping. Then, with spooky season underway, Shawn and Leah decide to watch a movie neither of them had ever seen before: Silent Night, Deadly Night. And there’s a pretty obvious connection. After meeting Linnea Quigley at the convention, Shawn finally has the perfect excuse to introduce Leah to this controversial 1984 Christmas horror classic. Did Leah enjoy it? What did Shawn think after meeting one of its stars? And does meeting someone from a movie make watching that movie afterward a little more interesting? Grab your coffee and join us for another trip around the long way! EnterpriseSplaining 103: Send in the Clones! (feat. Bethany Brookshire)

We’re watching Star Trek: Enterprise Season 3, Episode 10 “Similitude,” but only Maria has actually watched the episode. An accident while testing the warp core puts Trip in a coma and the only way Phlox can save him is to grow a clone of him and harvest its brain matter. And that’s just the first of a series of ethical conundrums that the crew has to deal with. Of course, Archer has a thoughtful and thorough analysis of the problem and… oh who am I kidding. All he really wants to do is save his bro. Join us as we attempt to navigate the truly wild complexities of this gordian knot of an episode. Bethany Brookshire joins us to give us a little perspective on the fundamental dangers of cloning, growing up in two weeks, and why southern accents probably aren’t genetic.
