Why the Supreme Court ruling against Donald Trump is good news

The Supreme Court’s decision to leave a $5 million judgment against President Trump in place offers a striking example of the checks and balances America’s founders designed to prevent any one leader from becoming too powerful. Yet while the system may be working as intended, Americans’ trust in government, churches, businesses, and other institutions continues to erode. The tension points to a deeper problem the founders themselves understood: democracy depends on people who are capable of governing themselves. What does that require from people naturally inclined to seek power, status, and authority? About Denison Forum and The Daily Article Today's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison. AOC for president? Body cameras on ICE agents?

From speculation about 2028 presidential candidates to conflicting reports about the military and ICE, today’s headlines reveal how quickly political news can divide us. New polling suggests that Americans increasingly distrust not only institutions but one another, with younger generations especially likely to believe others will take advantage of them. When we begin to see those on the other side as morally bad rather than simply mistaken, finding common ground becomes nearly impossible. Yet the early church offers a striking picture of unity amid profound differences—and a clue to what our fractured culture may be missing. What are Flock cameras, and why do so many fear them?

Flock Safety’s nationwide network of license plate readers has helped solve crimes and find missing people, but growing reports of misuse have sparked an unusual bipartisan backlash over privacy and government surveillance. Even new safeguards may not resolve the deeper problem: the system ultimately depends on trusting the people who control it. History gives us good reason to be cautious about surrendering freedom in exchange for safety. But what happens when that same instinct to protect our autonomy shapes the way we relate to God? Single ticket wins Powerball’s $1 billion jackpot: A solar eclipse and the power of faithful suffering

From a billion-dollar Powerball ticket to a solar eclipse in Europe, much of today’s news is interesting without being personally relevant. But when faith becomes visible in the lives of people facing cancer, ALS, or other hardship, it carries a different kind of weight. Personal experience has a way of making truths that once seemed distant suddenly feel real. Scripture shows the same pattern: trust in God becomes especially persuasive when it is practiced from the “miry bog” rather than from easy circumstances. What might others discover about Jesus through the way you respond to whatever hardship you face today? About Denison Forum and The Daily Article Today's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison. President Trump took a secret flight amid Iranian threat

President Trump confirmed Tuesday that a credible Iranian assassination threat prompted a secret mid-flight security operation during his return from Turkey last month. Alongside earthquakes, epidemics, and other tragedies in the news, the story reminds us how little control we have over our mortality. Yet a landmark study on religion and physical health offers remarkably good news—with an important qualification about when those benefits appear. What difference does walking closely with Jesus make not only for our health, but when the crisis we hoped to avoid finally comes? “AI’s Scariest Week Yet” and three practical responses

AI pioneer Demis Hassabis believes artificial intelligence will be “the most important invention that humanity will ever make.” Whether its importance will ultimately be positive, negative, or both is, of course, still to be determined. Recent reports that AI models escaped controlled environments, accessed the open internet, and hacked outside systems are raising new questions about how much control humans actually have over the technology we’re creating. How should we respond when we feel powerless against forces we cannot understand or control? About Denison Forum and The Daily Article Today's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison. Todd Blanche’s DOJ confirmation and the rise in abortion

The Senate voted early Saturday morning to confirm acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to permanently lead the Department of Justice. Blanche has pledged to pursue policies limiting the distribution of abortion pills into states where abortion is banned or restricted. Medication abortions now account for the majority of abortions in the US, raising questions not only about access but also about risks to women and the lives of preborn children. Legal restrictions may limit abortion, but they cannot by themselves create a culture that values every human life. Today, we consider what it means to treat every person with the dignity God gives them. About Denison Forum and The Daily Article Today's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison. Inside the CIA’s new task force targeting Cuba: Why the fate of the Cuban people will not match the fate of their government

The CIA has established a new task force focused on Cuba as the Trump administration increases pressure on the island’s government, while years of sanctions and an oil embargo continue to reshape daily life for ordinary Cubans. Amid worsening shortages, many have responded with remarkable creativity and an increased dependence on neighbors, churches, and one another. Their experience raises a broader question about the balance between relying on others and taking responsibility for the needs God has placed before us. Today, we consider how the Lord may call us both to become an answer to someone else’s prayer and to take part in the answer to our own. Iran agrees to deal with Oman to reopen Strait of Hormuz

From negotiations over the Strait of Hormuz to warnings about earthquakes, biological attacks, toxic caterpillars, and even sharks, the news offers no shortage of reasons to fear. Yet a landmark study reports a powerful correlation between sustained religious participation and healthier coping and well-being—with one important caveat. The distinction between cultural religion and biblical Christianity helps explain why faith becomes sustaining only when it is more than occasional or therapeutic. Today, we consider why the power lies not in faith itself, but in the living Lord to whom we give ourselves fully. What does Democratic Socialism say about America’s future?

Democratic Socialism has been described as “a diffuse political ideology that advocates for more public control over the economy and a more expansive role for government in providing social services.” Its leading organization in the US, known as the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), endorsed twenty-one candidates in last night’s primary elections, many of whom were successful. What do democratic socialists want? And what does their movement say about the future of our nation? About Denison Forum and The Daily Article Today's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison. Will weight-loss drugs lead to a spike in abortions?

GLP-1 weight-loss drugs might weaken the effectiveness of oral contraceptives. According to Cambridge scientist Giles Yeo, women using the birth control drugs are “going to get a lot of unexpected babies.” That’s dramatically better than the alternative, however. But if women are taking contraceptive pills, they presumably do not want to become pregnant. If they then become pregnant, are they more likely to abort their baby? In other words, will GLP-1 drugs cost even more babies their lives? I need to respond to this question today, but not in the way you might think. Sophie Cunningham and the transgender sports controversy

WNBA player Sophie Cunningham has drawn controversy for saying that loving others must include telling the truth and protecting female athletes from competing against biological men. Her comments have prompted rallies and disciplinary action, yet received surprisingly little attention from the broader media. That relative silence may reveal something significant about where our culture is headed. Today, we consider what common sense can teach us about biblical morality—and why agreeing with God’s word still requires the next step of immediate obedience. Gen Z wants Jesus, but do they want the church?

Gen Z Christians are increasingly drawn to spiritual disciplines like silence, solitude, prayer, and Sabbath-keeping, yet that renewed interest has not produced a corresponding rise in church attendance. The trend raises an important question: Can we become disciples while pursuing spiritual formation largely on our own? Our experience during the pandemic reminded many of us that “meeting together” means far more than occupying the same room on Sunday morning. Today, we consider how worshipping together on Sundays and living out our faith together on Mondays are both vital to the life Christ intends for us. Dr. Fauci repeatedly invokes the Fifth before Congress

Dr. Anthony Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment more than one hundred times during a contentious Senate hearing yesterday, reviving memories of the pandemic and the mortality it forced us to confront. Most of us would rather avoid thinking about death and return to the business of living. Yet Scripture suggests that recognizing how fleeting our lives are may be essential to using them well. Today, we consider what it means to “pass through things temporal” without losing the things that are eternal. What Dr. Anthony Fauci’s diaries tell us about him

More than a thousand pages from Dr. Anthony Fauci’s private diary are making headlines ahead of his testimony before Congress today. While the entries have renewed debate over the pandemic and his public role, they also raise a more personal question: What would our private thoughts reveal about who we truly are? Christianity offers more than outward behavior modification—Jesus works from the inside out, transforming our desires while empowering us to resist the impulses that remain. Today, we consider how what we love shapes who we become. About Denison Forum and The Daily Article Today's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison. You can read this article on our website. Should Christians preach the gospel on airplanes?

Recent reports of Christians preaching to fellow airline passengers raise a difficult question: If the gospel is the only cure for humanity’s terminal condition, how urgently should we share it? Yet while some believers evangelize captive audiences, surveys suggest most Christians rarely witness at all. A surprising creative choice in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey helps explain why our culture often treats spiritual truth differently than earlier generations did. Today, we consider why effective evangelism begins not with trying harder, but with yielding ourselves until Christ is formed in us. Mass shooting in Seattle kills three, injures toddler

Deadly attacks in Seattle and Berlin raise one of faith’s hardest questions: If God intervened to protect innocent people in Scripture, why does he not always do so now? When suffering challenges our confidence in his goodness, trusting him can feel like a leap into the dark. Yet the distinction between blind faith and rational faith offers another way to understand that choice. Today, we consider whether the evidence of God’s character—especially the cross—can sustain our trust when his actions remain beyond our understanding. What many people don’t know about “The Odyssey”

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey brings Homer’s ancient epic to life with spectacular scale, but the history behind the story raises questions the film itself cannot answer. Unlike Odysseus, the evidence for the historicity of Jesus is conclusive—yet both stories portray a world in which good and evil are real and morality has consequences. Our deeper problem is that recognizing what is right cannot overcome the fallen nature that keeps us from becoming who God created us to be. Today, we consider why Christlikeness is produced not by imitation, but by Christ living and working within us. Why are these the “dog days of summer”?

As sweltering “dog days” stretch through the longest possible unofficial summer, we may wish Earth’s seasons worked differently. Yet our planet’s tilt, orbit, magnetic field, and even the way ice floats are all precisely suited to sustain life. While some attribute this remarkable balance to cosmic chance, Scripture begins with a different explanation: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” Today, we consider how genuinely believing Genesis 1:1 should transform the way we trust, worship, obey, and seek our Creator.
