Israel Closes British Consulate in East Jerusalem as UK-Israel Crisis Explodes
The Door Closes on Britain in Jerusalem Israel has ordered the closure of Britain’s consulate in East Jerusalem in an extraordinary escalation of the diplomatic confrontation between the two countries. The move came after the UK announced sweeping action against Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, turning a long-running political disagreement into a direct confrontation between London and Jerusalem. The retaliation does not stop at the consulate. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said Britain would also be removed from the US-led coordination mission for Gaza, British training of Palestinian Authority security forces in the West Bank would end, and a number of British politicians and other nationals would be barred from entering Israel.
