Stories From My Swampy Cree Reconnection Journey
In this episode of Spirit School, I'm sharing a few stories from my reconnection journey back to my Swampy Cree culture and my grandmother's traditional territories. Watch on Youtube as this episode is visual https://www.youtube.com/@squamishmedium This one's a little different, less polished, more story time. I talk about following your "point of intrigue" (a piece of advice that's shaped a lot of my life), how a library trip with my kids led me to a book by a Norway House author, and how a prayer for happier stories led me to a rare, out of print book of Swampy Cree name origins I found, of all places, on eBay. I also pull out my tobacco plants for a very visual teaching about space, growth, and what it means to flourish. In this episode: Following your "point of intrigue" as a way of navigating life A library trip with my kids and a synchronistic book find My connection to elder historian Flora Beardy and author Louis Bird Praying for joyful Swampy Cree stories, and finding The Wishing Bone Cycles on eBay Reading from the book's chapter on personal name origins A teaching from propagating my sacred tobacco for the first time A call for gifted tobacco seeds (I'm down to my last batch) This is a visual episode, if you're listening in audio, come find me on YouTube to see the tobacco plants I'm talking about.
