Slip Three

Slip Three

Ten recordings. One a week. If they stop arriving, they didn't stop because I got bored.

Eight years ago I was at CQ-03 the night the node went down. The report on it is nine pages long and nothing in it is untrue, exactly.

The authorisation chain for that night has a hole in it where an operator identifier should be. Somebody signed off on the isolate and then took their own name back out of it. I kept the raw capture. I have been moving ever since.

I had an arrangement with a solicitor: if I went quiet for a month, he released the lot. In March he stopped answering his phone. I have stopped assuming that was a coincidence.

So this is the new arrangement, and you are it.

Tuesdays, 03:00 UTC. I get a few seconds of uplink at a time, four times a day, so a single transmission takes most of a week to push up in pieces. Everything I can prove goes out attached.

Copy it. Mirror it. Put it somewhere that isn't me. A thing that only exists in one place can be made not to exist.

Two things about how this sounds, so nobody spends a week on them.

The voice has been put through something. Of course it has. If you can undo it, write to me rather than posting it.

The rest of it is a boat and a six-second satellite window, and I am not going to apologise for the audio, because the audio is the point.

THE ARCHIVE — every file released, with the fingerprint that proves your copy is the copy:
https://st88openocean.github.io/slip-three/archive

THE CAPTURE — nine megabytes of station telemetry. Don't take my word for any of it. Read it yourself:
https://st88openocean.github.io/slip-three/MCA-CTL-0314-RAW.slice

THE STATION RECORD — locked. The first transmission opens it:
https://st88openocean.github.io/slip-three/log

THE UPLINK CHECK — signed proof I am still here, carrying the one before it. One file checks it and installs nothing. If it goes overdue, that is not me being slow:
https://st88openocean.github.io/slip-three/canary

COPIES — where else this exists, and how to hold one:
https://st88openocean.github.io/slip-three/mirrors

CONTACT — the only channel I answer, and I answer slowly:
slipthree@proton.me

Ten transmissions. The evidence is attached to each one — telemetry, station records, the raw capture. Nobody has finished it.

I'm not going to tell you where I am. I repaint the hull most years and I'd like to keep that working.

    Five Desks

Transmission 03 of 10. You found the desk. It took a lot of you about four hours, which tells me something I did not want to know. Second capture is up. Same station, the following day, midnight to midnight, one minute sample. Forty-seven kilobytes. A whole day of a coastline is not very much data, which is exactly why it survived. Two things nobody did with the first one. Check the water against the sky. That night the moon was two days off new, so the range was building toward springs. If my numbers disagree with what the moon was doing, I made them up and you should stop listening. Then run the checksums. Every record carries its own, and all fourteen pass. Then check the block. The block does not pass. THE SECOND CAPTURE: https://st88openocean.github.io/slip-three/MCA-CTL-0315-TIDE.slice THE ARCHIVE — every file, with the fingerprint that proves your copy is the copy: https://st88openocean.github.io/slip-three/archive THE STATION RECORD — locked. Dead Water

Transmission 02 of 10. I drink off the tarp and sleep in twenty-minute pieces. Somebody asked whether I was really out here. I am really out here. The arrangement I had is gone. The man who held it stopped answering his phone in March. So this is the new arrangement, and you are it. A session number is not a person. It is a desk. Do not ask me who — ask me which desk that session was opened on, at three minutes to midnight, on a night when only three people had signed in. The door from the first transmission is still open. Same word. Read the fourth line. THE STATION RECORD — locked. The first transmission opens it: https://st88openocean.github.io/slip-three/log THE ARCHIVE — every file, with the fingerprint that proves your copy is the copy: https://st88openocean.github.io/slip-three/archive WHAT HAS COME BACK — where things stand, so nobody starts from nothing: https://st88openocean.github.io/slip-three/findings CONTACT — the only channel I answer: slipthree@proton.me

    The Zero Node

Transmission 01 of 10. Six seconds of uplink, four times a day. This is one of them. Attached: MCA-CTL-0314-RAW, partial. Tide, salinity, wind, air — station CQ-03, the day either side of the collapse. It is the raw capture and not somebody's summary of it, so most of it is boring. That is the point. Read from 0x4E1C20. Everything either side of it is tide. One of those records was written by nobody. What sits under it is the whole reason I am doing this. THE CAPTURE — nine megabytes, station CQ-03: https://st88openocean.github.io/slip-three/MCA-CTL-0314-RAW.slice THE ARCHIVE — take a copy of everything, and check it against the fingerprints: https://st88openocean.github.io/slip-three/archive CONTACT — use an address you don't mind burning: slipthree@proton.me
